Why is Freeza's dub voice so hated?

Freeza could be worse.... I agree she was much better as Genkai then Freeza. I grew up on her Freeza so I am pretty much use to it by now. The Ocean Dub Freeza was one of the few Ocean actors I really didnt like.

I don't like Cell's speaking voice, but his sounds for battling (I'm going by BT2 voice clips here) are pretty good and remind me of the Japanese voice actors.

I like Sean Schemmel, although he sounded the most akward during the earlier Funi episodes. his screaming was terrible. the worst case of this? When Goku powered up against captain Ginyu at the end of episode 69. The initial scream was god-awful.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Agreed. If screaming were an occupation and Schemmel had a resume, his work in Movie 12 should most definitely be listed as his most favorable reference.Rocketman wrote:The best case: movie 12.

I'll try to find his SSJ3 transformation on youtube. It was awesome.Li'l Lemmy wrote:Agreed. If screaming were an occupation and Schemmel had a resume, his work in Movie 12 should most definitely be listed as his most favorable reference.Rocketman wrote:The best case: movie 12.

Huzzah. Agreed completely.I'd still say that whilst Linda Young's performance was good it didn't quite fit what I saw on screen. It was haughty and pompous, but far too high and scratchy, I can't think of a dub example, but just a voice that was sleek and posh (Without being "English") but not really masculine.
I personally find Freeza's Japanese voice to be the best of the whole series.

I remember Mr. Schemmel saying when he first did either SS3 or SS4 scream for the first time he passed out in the booth, and it served him right for making fun of Mr. Vale for it.
Agreed. But her Baba is better than her Frieza in my view.Freeza could be worse.... I agree she was much better as Genkai then Freeza. I grew up on her Freeza so I am pretty much use to it by now.

Well Kujira(Orochimaru's seiyuu), was only born in 1961, so I'd hardly call her an "old woman".Super Sonic wrote:I heard Orochimaru was voiced by an old woman and no one was hating on that casting choice.
Oh and ironically, it was Shigeru Chiba(Pilaf, Raditz), that gave her that stage name. They both belong to the same agency. It means "whale".

I like both for what they are. I enjoy more of Linda Young's performance as Genkai as opposed to Freeza, but since it was what I heard first, I'm used to it enough to where I don't really find it grating at all. Ryusei Nakao's version of the character is awesome as well, and now I try to look out for him in other shows. I've just recently heard himin Jing the Bandit King and Bleach.

I actually like Freeza's dub voice, simply because of the fact that it's so odd. I think it actually fits his physical form quite well. I wasn't much for the Japanese one, it's too deep for such a small character.

Well she's around 57, so you weren't off the mark. It's just a know plenty of women in and around that age(my mum included), that don't think of themselves as "old ladies".Super Sonic wrote:Oh.Jerseymilk wrote:Well Kujira(Orochimaru's seiyuu), was only born in 1961, so I'd hardly call her an "old woman".Super Sonic wrote:I heard Orochimaru was voiced by an old woman and no one was hating on that casting choice.
