Well, some kind of dislike what he did to Tien. He also wrote Episode 90 where Tien was more.....passive than usual.
Wow he wrote this episode?I guess i can excuse episode 90 as him being too much of a Roshi fanboy as the reason for it being so bad. :D

Oh so that's the reason why he didn't appear in 105,I'm sure Tien will get good treatment from another writer

My favorite remains Atsuhiro Tomioka, although King Ryu is in the top three.
Ryu's emotional stuff (that Gokû and Piccolo and baby Pan episode where Gokû temporarily lost his ability to fly/use ki, this week's Roshi episode, I think they also did the one where Vegeta makes that really good speech to Gokû Black about Gokû being more than a body) is what I really like about their work.

Tomioka did a really good episode recently that I liked. I'm guessing he's writing the upcoming special and maybe that's why he's been gone more often lately. They also have him doing some One Piece now too.

His last episode was 102 with the magical girl, so he did a good job with 17, but I adore Tomioka since he wrote almost the entire Future Trunks Saga with the highlights being Episodes 47, 61, 66, and 67. Although Episodes 56 and 57 with Ryu and Toshio really nailed it. He also wrote that two-part Krillin episode about him getting his fighting spirit back, which really did Krillin justice and showed Roshi being the wise old sage we loved.

For this saga, he wrote the introduction and all the exhibition matches except Toppo, which really highlighted Goku's savage side. Ryu had some good stuff too with Episode 90 and Fukushima did a great job with Episodes 89 and 103. Overall, I think all the writers have been very good this arc with Tomioka, Ryu, and Toshio being the all stars.

Edit: Small correction, the episode where Vegeta gave that speech to Black was Toshio. Ryu wrote the episode where Black and Zamasu fused.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

So Caway jumped out of the ring because she thought that if Roshi raped her she wouldn't be able to get married? Wow...whoever wrote that segment is a real winner. Talk about backwards, it's such an absurd mentality even if it's meant as a joke.

I interpreted that scene as Caway thinking Roshi would beat her up so badly that she would feel less attractive and her chances of landing a good husband would decrease because she would less beautiful.

Are you sure ? the sub I watched had her say he'd force her to marry him.

It's funny we're getting so many female fighters in Dragonball now. For the entire span of DBZ, all we got was 18, but she was only a villain for a short time. Even in all the movies the only female fighter I remember is one of Bojack's henchmen and she barely did anything.

It was clearly obvious Caway was a Virgin and she doesnt want to be touched by an old man.
Yeah, thats my interpretation kinda.

I like that Roshi got the spotlight and cool scenes, but there are other ways to showcase a character without breaking the rules of the series in the process. This guy should not even be at the level of Nappa, unless he had very special training and had his inner power released somehow, and he should be dead after using the Mafuba.

It would have been a nice twist if he died. That scene carried a lot of emotions, but no, they ruined it, unsurprisingly. That would have been the most powerful death in Super.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

When Roshi was avoiding Ganos hits by predicting his movements was something he already did in OG Dragon Ball, right? I remember seeing that before, don't remember if was against Man-Wolf though

precita wrote:Toei must really dislike Tien. Poor showing in the recruitment episodes, and he's barely done anything in this tournament and has remained in the background. And even Roshi is getting so much more to do than him.

Sometimes I honestly forget Tenshinhan is even in this arc.
Are you kidding? Tien wasn't knocked out yet while the fan favorite, Krillin aka the strongest earthling had all the development before the tournament and gone down first. Give it a time, Tenshinhan still can have his time to shine.

I also really like that there are more female fighters in the battle-lines. Caulifla has been one of the shining stars of this entire arc.

Roshi was chosen to help fight Freeza's army, where was Yamcha?
The choices in that movie are all over the place not really relevant imo. They were including characters just to bring in fans for nostalgia and Yamcha isn't really popular, plus he looks too much like Gohan in some cases when his hair is short.

Good written episode, but the choreography suffered greatly as well as the animation. But it's held up by some of the best character writing the tournament has had. Shame the enemy is still generic as all fuck, but did it's job to really help Roshi shine. Was not expecting a lot from this episode, and came out surprised. It's a solid 7 for me.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I definitely interpreted it that way at first, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they meant, but I also thought it might be from her face getting beat up.

Just gonna be honest here, last night when I watched the episode and subsequently reviewed it I was a bit drunk. I re-watched it today sobered up and I think I was bit harsh on it. I think this is likely the second, maybe third-best episode of the tournament thus far. Saying that, I still think that Ganos was portrayed as a bit too weak and I still dislike the sequence with Caway. Also:

I hope you're being sarcastic. If not, then no offense meant, but you must be REALLY sheltered.

Yeah, thats my interpretation kinda.
It was clearly stated that one of Caway's specialties was seduction. Being touched by people, sometimes unsavory ones, is kind of a natural risk in the realm of seduction. How she managed to attain that specialty without ever facing such a risk before can only be chalked up to as gag writing, which is part of why I dislike the scene.

Both a great and a bad episode, I'm torn on this.

Bad:

Wasting characters with cool abilities. Caway can create different weapons out of Ki, yet jumps out of the ring for fear of being raped and having her chances of getting a husband diminished. Nevermind her life and the life of everyone in her universe is at stake. What the hell, have her fight and lose at least. Dakori has a very interesting ability, but immediately loses for a rule-breaking move. It's great that Roshi won, but they should have had Dakori fight and win against someone first.

Wasting Ganos. Ganos was the leading member of Universe 4 and had a cool design. Yet he is extremely weak and a awful martial artist. And what's up with that duck transformation? He could have gotten a far better presentation.

Roshi's sacrifice is undermined by not staying dead. It would make for a better ending, make Goku stop fooling around with his opponents, remind the audience what is at stake in the tournament.

Goku's overreation to the old man's death. Really? Make Goku cry in the middle of the tournament? That was very, very out of character. Last time he reacted this way was for Kuririn's death post 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. Later he didn't act like this even when Gohan had apparently died at the hands of Buu. The scene could have the same impact if it was better written and not made Goku totally out of character.

Good:

Kame-Sennin kicking ass was great, using his techniques and experience. His speech and the Kamehameha that followed was awesome. Though I still don't buy his reason to come back after all this time.

Now, I know that looking at my post might give the impression that I think there's less ups than downs, but Muten Roshi kicking ass really balances it out.
