He's working on the special though. I think it's safe to assume it's going to be an extended cut of the one from the OP.
Hopefully it's pretty lengthy, but is still of good quality.

I'm not sure if it makes sense that he's working on a extended version of his Opening cut. If anything that cut should already be finished and then while editing, the editors chose to show only that part we got.

Here on C17 hype trailer (1:07), the Opening cut is actually longer.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

I guess extended cut is the wrong term.
I meant that he's working on a technically different cut, but the stuff from the opening will be mixed in with it.

The wish of Shida doing a cut involving Goku's new form is getting more likely!

When would we get confirmation on the supervisor(s)? Or will it be like Resurrection "F" special and we'd find out on the day?

We found out the F Trunks edition staff from its credits. I imagine we'll get the staff for this from the Animage issue that will leak a few days before this special, but we might get an idea of who's on it from the NEP at the end of 108.

Do we know all the supervisors that are working on episodes until the special? Or are we still waiting on that?

Huh. Damn, guess there goes the hope of Kara/Kuni supervised special, was hoping he was doing some un-credited work for this week and that is why it looked a bit rough.

October 8th in the hour block that Super and One Piece usually air.

key animation aside, i just really hope this "special" has good supervision, if karasawa can hold down the whole thing that would be great, but, as great at what he does he is, i'm not convinced he's an overly fast supervisor, so yamamuro picking up slack a bit wouldn't hurt, as long as his style isn't prevalent, and who knows, we may see more supervisors we know and love or some brand new names from tiger mask/onepiece, most anything is fine, as long as it's consistent and not ugly, because good animation or not, i want to at least be able to look back at this special and think "that looked really nice", that carries over to direction and storyboarding as well, God, please don't let it be yamamuro...

As for animation, I'm tentatively optimistic, I'm sure Shida will be great, as always, but i hope he doesn't outshine everyone else like he always seems to (although, knowing this fanbase, they'll gravitate towards him regardless, but a man can dream), i really want to see Tate shine as brightly as he did in episode 26; still my favorite work of his on the series (I obviously hope it's less rough, though), i want to see kenji miuma on the same level he is on other series (especially precure), same goes for ken otsuka, who seems to always get lightly shafted by super's time constraints, and I'm especially excited for long time returns like yuya takahashi (was probably talking about the special in that tweet) and possible comebacks like ryo onishi and koudai watanabe. If even half of the aforementioned come through in a big way ("sakuga material"), i'll be more than satisfied, but if all of them do, I feel sorry for anyone else who tries to give me a birthday present, because DBS already won. I also have this insane hope that Yutaka nakamura will some day animate on ANYTHING dragon ball related, wouldn't have to be this special, not that i think that's even slightly likely, nor him animating dragon ball at all, just a stupid wish of mine, his crazily over the top (yet fully comprehensible) style is exactly the kind of thing i'm craving in a dragon ball fight scene.

btw this is my first post on this forum (sorry for the length) but i've been lurking for months and i've read the rules, so don't worry too much about me.

For number of supervisors on the "special" I think 4 is the smallest number we could see.

Welcome to Kanzenshuu !

For the supervisors, I think it will be Manabe, Ono, Karasawa and Maybe Nashizawa or Yamamuro himself, and, hopefully it is directed and storyboarded by Nagamine or Ryota Nakamura (or both).

I understand why you think that, most DBS episodes have 2 supervisors, so it would follow that basically just 2 episodes would have 4, but karasawa has had so much time off from supervision I'm just expecting a bit more from him, if he's even on this special, God knows what he's been doing since 72, besides 94, if, by some small miracle, he's been working on this since his hiatus started at the end of last year (I don't know if that's even possible), it's very possible that he could supervise the entire thing, but even if he's only been on it since 94, that's still coming up on 4 months of pre production, so he could at least supervise one half by himself

Inb4 he's not on the special at all and my hope is in vain tho

The fact that they didn't show anything in the PV while One Piece did makes me think the production of the special is just going to be the equivalent of two episodes, not an actual special.
If Karasawa is on this I doubt he's spent the entirety of his time since 94 on it, he was probably doing some work for another show or two before staring his work on the special. Even when Karasawa was a regular he would still show up on other shows.

I totally agree it's not going to be a true "special" in the sense of basically a mini movie, but I expect it to be treated basically like episode 66, obviously trying to dress to impress (even at the expense of the following episode.

And yeah, I've heard karasawa is on other shows than DBS (just like any other animator), but I have no idea what they are or what he does on them, could you fill me in a bit?

Yeah, I really hope Shimanuki is on the special, considering that the Goku vs. Jiren fight in the opening was presumed by Ajay to be Shiminuki, and not only that, but also because there was that one "wonky shot" in the NEP, so we can assume that Shimanuki was rushing to animate for the special, but who knows. I also hope that we get another episode 66, with our top current animators (Shimanuki, Tate, Manabe, and/or Karasawa) as well as our special "guest" animators (such as Shida, Otsuka, and/or Takahashi). I don't know about you guys, but with all the hype with both the fans, and the staff, as well as that 1 week break, I have high expectations for the fight and the entire special as a whole.

Goku vs Jiren in the opening wasn't Shimanuki at all. His part was was presumed to be gohan powering up.

I know everyone wants Karasawa Yuu'ichi to be working on the special, but there's really no indication that he is sticking with Dragon Ball Super. He could very well be working on Hatano Morio's next production or another production at Toei Animation.

This site is a good archive. He hasn't shown up on anything since Super 94.
