They're definitely not 30. I grew up with Pokemon, most fans are in my age group (20 to 25).precita wrote:Misty was written off the pokemon anime 15 years ago way back in 2002. Overall though you guys are kinda right, all the original Pokemon fans are now 25-30 year old adults. Millions of kids got into the franchise in the 15 years since Misty was axed from the show.

Uh, I am. Pokemon came out in 1997 in Japan and 1998 in the dub for the west. That's literally 20 years ago. A kid who was 10 when Pokemon first came out would be 30 now. Most people in the online pokemon fandom right now are in their late 20's or early 30's. Besides the younger people who got into it during the 2000's instead.Doctor. wrote: They're definitely not 30. Kasumi left after the first series ended and only returned for a sporadic appearance during the second series, Advanced Generation. Takeshi was a main character until the end of Diamond & Pearl. He returned for a team-up with Dent at the end of Best Wishes and is now returning for Sun & Moon. Ueda Yuuji, his actor, has continually voiced Pokemon for the series, though.Chuquita wrote:I dunno. Don't they appeal to a very specific age group nostalgia window, Misty and Brock? I was only into pokémon for two years and I think she left a year after I stopped watching and then never(?) same back while Brock returns once or twice(?).
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I feel like if I hadn't dropped off of the pokémon anime naturally half a dozen episodes into Johto, that Misty leaving would've been the event to make me drop it. Kid me shipped Misty and Ash pretty hard. Kid me also didn't realize the pokémon tv series would continue into perpetuity, so at most adult me finds her and Brock popping back up novel, and I might tune in for that episode, but I don't care about the ship one way or the other anymore.
Bringing it back to Dragon Ball, Gokû's the only one who if he were written out would cause me to immediately drop Super.

GT wasn't a spinoff. It was a sequel and you know that.dbzfan7 wrote:Nah I hear it all the time, especially the "It's not relevant anymore" crowd. GT however is marketed more than the original ball is, which should tell you all you need to know about our fanbase's interests.

A spin off can also be a sequel you know. Metal Gear Rising is a spin off and a sequel to Metal Gear Solid 4.Totamo wrote:GT wasn't a spinoff. Most people that grew up with Pokemon during the G1 era in 1998-1999 in the US where kids under the age of 12. Kids born in 1987-1994 would have been the right age for Pokemon when it was brand new in the US around that time.Doctor. wrote:They're definitely not 30. I hear the Pokemon anime does not get high ratings than it used to. Dragon Ball Super seems to be the best selling anime on TV next to One Piece at the moment in Japan.perucho1990 wrote:The moment DBS returns from the break, I wonder if Pokemon might defeat them in the ratings because DBS will clash with the Pokemon episode that features the return of Misty and Brock.

You're mistaken, there are plenty of original Pokémon fans who are even below 20, in their late teens and of course some in their early 20s.precita wrote: all the original Pokemon fans are now 25-30 year old adults.

Do you consider Boruto a spin off

Sun/Moon's anime (what 20 episodes I watched of it) is more of a sakuga paradise than anything else. It's fun to watch in motion, but the overarching plot went nowhere, at least for the episodes I saw.Hellspawn28 wrote:I hear the Pokemon anime does not get high ratings than it used to. Did kids like the previous series more? Was the previous pokémon anime (XYZ?) more plot heavy? I never watched it. I only popped into Sun/Moon because of the sakuga + TFSGaming was doing their Sun/Moon game playthrough at the time + I learned Zamasu and James share a Japanese voice actor. (Which resulted in me immediately looking up clips of subbed Kanto-era Team Rocket. Gal!Kojiro from the Queen Anne episode says cho~ in place of cooool~. Not that anyone was wondering, but now you know.)
I could swear the Kanto stuff moved the game plot along faster than Sun/Moon, but it's been so long I could be wrong. Either way, sakuga alone wasn't enough to keep me interested and that's why I dropped Sun/Moon.

Pokemon is finally regularly placing high in the ratings again thanks to Sun & Moon after XY dropped off. The school setting and slighter lean toward everyday life settings probably make it easier for casual audiences to enjoy. The fact that Satoshi has more of a personality now certainly helps, too.

Toei should get some Pokemon writers then if they could make Satoshi aka Ash interesting in Sun&Moon.
Vegeta, Piccolo need it, specially the former, and doesnt help that Horikawa isnt as good as in the 80s. IMO Sabat is now better than current Horikawa.

Though I suppose side story could be a better word....and a side story can still be a sequel too.

I normally like slice of life stuff too, but I just wasn't able to stick with Sun/Moon. I do really like that five months(?) of lead time pokémon gets with its episodes though. The luxury of having that much time to prepare before your episode airs sounds incredible.
That said, I am a little bit wary of the potential low quality of the Super episodes that occur directly before and after the hour long special due to how rushed Super's schedule is by comparison.

Why isn't the special just a double episode with double time plus there is also a break due to history special?Chuquita wrote:I normally like slice of life stuff too, but I just wasn't able to stick with Sun/Moon. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I'm 27. Pokémon came out (to my understanding) in America when I was 7/8 ish. You're talking about people currently in their teens being fans of the original Pokémon. How could they if they weren't even born at that point...? Even early 20s would be a stretch.SaiyanGod117 wrote:You're mistaken, there are plenty of original Pokémon fans who are even below 20, in their late teens and of course some in their early 20s.precita wrote: all the original Pokemon fans are now 25-30 year old adults.
Now if you meant that they like watching the original Pokémon then that's a different story. But to imply that kids who were still in their dads ball sack or 4 years old to be part of the "original fans" group, then that's a little silly.
How i predict the tournament will end:
