Whoa boy. What a nightmare staff list. That episode was seriously up against it. Look at the sheer number of external studios working on this thing! I'm beyond amazed that it turned out the way it did. Thank you Tsuji! She corrected every single awful shot from that NEP last week.

Man, poor Karasawa. I don't even know where to begin. What a disastrous week for him; he got shafted harder than anyone I've ever seen before. What a damn shame.

Shimanuki did great. He animated so much on his own and it was actually pretty tasteful. I enjoyed the episode just fine in spite of all these issues.

Presumably this episode is way it is because of the upcoming special, but I guess we'll see.

If I'd been paying attention to this thread, I'd have backed you up. I mentioned that it was most likely him on my livestream last night. The shading on those derpy Gohan and Piccolo faces seemed like a decent indicator.

I wasn't 100% and I for sure wouldn't blame anyone for thinking otherwise. We never expect that sort of work of Karasawa! Poor guy.

Karasawa having almost 13 weeks to work on an episode wouldn't look that to the point where he needs to be corrected on every single shot, my guess is he's supervising the special episode for a long time but he was called on to help get this episode out since it was such a mess

It doesn't really give me a lot of confidence in expecting something truly noteworthy the double episode special in October knowing how much of race against time it was to get the episode out of the gate. The only thing right now that really gives me any believe that we'll get something great out of that special in October is knowing that Shida will be working on it.

I also can't believe they would waste Shimanuki and Karasawa in an episode like this. Not to mention the amount of external studio involved. Holy shit. It all just reeks of bad planning.

Was serviceable in both halves, despite the catastrophic behind the scenes production.

Shimanuki delivered some decent debris and explosions, though sadly the moments where we saw his debris and explosions were fleeting.

Overall, decent episode, though again, nothing to really ride home about.

NEP looks pretty solid, it looks like they have themselves more together next episode than this episode.

No notable action, but the art was really nice for most of the episode. Glad all of the off looking stuff in the NEP got corrected.
The instant the episode started I knew Karasawa was on it, wonder why he was so light, I can only assume it's because of the upcoming special, at least we know he's still on the show!
Tsuji really did overtime on this episode, she did a wonderful job.
Nothing note worthy in the NEP, but the art looks fine and the storyboarding looks pretty nice.
