Interesting. I like how in your idea Goku isn't the last man standing, but I'm not at all in favor of Gohan getting shafted like that, or Vegeta beating up Frost AGAIN.Polyphase Avatron wrote:Ideally for me, the tournament would go like this:

- Goku eliminates Ribrianne
- Goku and Jiren mutually eliminate each other
- Dyspo and Toppo eliminate 17 and 18
- Hit eliminates Dyspo
- Freeza and Frost eliminate Kale, Caulifla, and Gohan
- Vegeta eliminates Frost
- Freeza eliminates Toppo
- Hit eliminates Freeza
The final match is Vegeta vs. Hit. Vegeta ends up defeating him despite losing at first, by maybe accessing Goku's new form or getting some kind of super rage powerup.
But I know this probably isn't going to happen.

There is no way Vegeta will be last. I hope he is not 3rd out but I can't see him as last. Although you can have multiple people left on your team. I don't think they will go that route but you never know.
Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
Don't really care who wins as lost as it's satisfying. I don't see Vegeta going third though.

To say Vegeta is a side character is the same as saying Goku is. The fact is Vegeta is a main character just as much as Goku. Dragon Ball Super is about the journey of Goku and Vegeta. You literally can't have DBS without Vegeta. It wouldn't work and there would be no story.
Dragon Ball was about Goku
Dragon Ball Z it shifted from just Goku to being about the Z fighters and the emergence of Gohan.
Dragon Ball Super is about the journey of Goku and Vegeta
If you removed Vegeta there would be no story and it would be pretty boring for Goku not to mention all of us as fans. I honestly can't imagine the show even making it to 100 episodes without Vegeta. I am not saying this as a hard core Vegeta fan just stating the truth. If you removed Vegeta you would end up with GT where it was terrible until the final fight where of course who do we have Goku and Vegeta fighting together again.
It's pretty baffling when people don't recognize Vegeta as the main character now with Goku.
Goku needs Vegeta and DBS has done a fantastic job of them surpassing each other back and forth and then working together of course to fight the main antagonist. Vegeta now is a role model and of course his family is a major part of Super as well with Bulma playing important roles for Goku and Vegeta even getting training. Then of course we had Future Trunks and we can't even have a Trunks arc without of course Vegeta.
Goku needs Vegeta and Vegeta needs Goku. I will just keep saying that. Not only that Dragon Ball Super needs Vegeta because he is a main character and its all about what will Goku and Vegeta get into next.
So the reason why it's not okay for the main character Vegeta to be eliminated early is because he is a massive part of Dragon Ball Super. It's about Goku and Vegeta pushing each other and trying to be the heroes in this fun journey that we call Dragon Ball Super. As a character Vegeta is now Goku's equal. People might not like that because they are haters but if Vegeta has haters then he is doing something right
Serious question can you even imagine trying to right any of the Arcs without Vegeta in Super? It can't be done. The foundation of Super is both Goku and Vegeta and there really isn't any denying that fact.
Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
I disagree. Vegeta is quickly becoming a scrub in this show. Maybe in the Manga (where they're equal at the moment), but a 20X multiplier to SSB is way too much for Vegeta to ever catch up. Put the new transformation on top of that and the gap is wider than SSJ2 Vegeta compared to SSJ4 Goku in GT. It's even up in the air if Vegeta is stronger than Frieza or Kale right now. I could also see Gohan surpassing him by the end of the arc. Vegeta has been dropped to scrub status by the writers. It's no longer necessary for him to be near Goku now that we have Hit, Toppo, Frieza, and Jiren.

Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
My Frieza fanboyism is getting the better of me right now, so I have to disagree. I have the feeling that Super has big plans for Frieza, big plans indeed. I am beginning to think that he's going to be just as important as the saiyan duo to this series. Episode 95 really pushed the Arch-Nemesis idea and I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of Super, Goku and Frieza will be immortal gods, fighting each other for all eternity. The God of Creation vs the God of Destruction.WhatIfTheories wrote:Lapislettuce wrote: Dragon Ball Super is about the journey of Goku and Vegeta.
Well, that's one of my hopes anyway.
As for Vegeta getting eliminated early ... well, it makes little sense popularity wise, but it could be a shocking turn of events (although, with everything being leaked a month from now it would hardly be considered a surprise). I think the Mafuba will be a failsafe (dropping Vegeta out without actually dropping him out), so that the fanboys will be shocked and amazed when he's mafuba'ed and brought back later on in the tourney.
As for 17, while he's indeed stronger than before, I don't see him portrayed as someone who will make it in the last 10 fighters. Not in terms of power, but in terms of hype. I, personally, just don't see it.
Will definitely last longer than 18, though.

Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
Vegeta going out before Goku's big fight is no surprise and if Vegeta doesn't lose to Jiren then who does he lose to? I would say Hit but many have already convinced themselves that Vegeta can one-shot him. This would mean that Vegeta would have to go out to someone who is weaker than him. This could be Cabba or maybe Frost does get him eventually with Frieza's help.Nickolaidas wrote:My Frieza fanboyism is getting the better of me right now, so I have to disagree. 17's big problem is that he does not have the character status that other Universe 7 members have.

Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
My personal problem with 17 in Super is that he's amazingly bland and boring. An expressionless, powered-up shell of a person. He constantly speaks and behaves as if he's half-sleeping. He wasn't like this in Z and if that's their idea of character progression, I'm literally at a loss. Frankly, he's U7's Jiren at this point, in terms of personality.namekiansaiyan wrote:17's big problem is that he does not have the character status that other Universe 7 members have.
While that indeed differentiates him from the rest of the cast (because of his calm demeanor), it makes him uninteresting in my eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want him to bulge his veins like the other psychos (Frieza / Vegeta), but I'd like to see the same balance the writers achieved with 18. 18 is also detached and calm, but you can see her expressing emotion when talking about the things that matter (anything having to do with Krillin and Maron for example). 17 is in 'no fucks given' mode all the freakin' time. His response to 18 about 'if we fail' which was again a 'no fucks given' moment was really cringeworthy for me. I want to see the guy living a little, is all.
I think it's established at this point that both 17 and 18 are not machines, and 17 shouldn't be written as one. My opinion anyway.

In DBZ, 17 was trying to have fun and no one could stop him or se he thought. The situation is different.

In the manga its prophecized Vegeta will surpass Beerus. I don't see the Anime deviating from that THAT much and relegating Vegeta to scrub.
I should also mention that as this isn't real life, the gap between Goku and Vegeta is only as big as the writers allow it to be. It can all change with the pen in a few writing sessions. Potentially in seconds it can easily reverse. Super does not shy away from giving characters obscene boosts that don't even make sense in order to fit plot demand.
And Toppo etc replacing Vegeta? Yeah...when toppo and Jiren merch outsells Vegetas that'll be the day. Ones a fat moustache joke design, ones an arse head, ones a generic grey alien design. The only good design is Frieza and he's an outright villain. Vegeta is visually one of the greatest anime designs of all time. That hairstyle is every bit as iconic as Goku's. To throw that away for the likes of Toppo is artistic insanity.

The argument still stands, I don't see manga Vegeta rivalling Beerus someday and Anime Vegeta being a scrub if both are based on the same or even remotely similar notes from Toriyama.Simere wrote:"They will be your strongest rivals" not "They will surpass you".TBMx wrote:In the manga its prophecized Vegeta will surpass Beerus. Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
I don't know if Vegeta will be knocked out early in this tournament. He still very well may. Quite honestly while I'll be upset yes it's okay. I'll get over it. It's not going to ruin the show. Everyone wants their favorites to stay on longer. It's as simple as that.
But the fact that people think Vegeta as a character will suddenly become irrelevant because all these new stronger characters are introduced is pretty silly. I imagine the only people thinking this are those who don't like Vegeta as a character but he is one of the most popular characters in the franchise. He's not going anywhere.
And if there are stronger opponents for Goku to fight then who is to say Vegeta can't fight some of them too. Or other characters like Gohan for that matter. I get Goku is the main character and will always get the top fights but that doesn't mean other characters won't get important fights or that Goku gets to fight every strong character introduced.
And Vegeta will survive even if Freeza suddenly stops his villainous ways.

Vegeta will never be a main character like Goku. Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
On one hand, I want him to be taken out early because he already has played the role of second-in-command for every arc in Super, so having a change of pace would be nice, but on the other, with Bra's birth happening this arc and losing the Tournament meaning her erasure, I want to see him do his best for his daughter, since daddy Vegeta is the only version of the character that I don't find annoying in some way. However, with the arc not playing on that front at all, at least for now, I lean more towards wanting him out early.

Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
I think it's ok if Vegeta gets eliminated anytime now. After all they are under 40 fighters and two universes eliminated. Also at least anime wise, the story did focus on him as much as it did with Goku and Gohan. This arc isn't about him, yes he and Bulma were having their 2nd child but that just seemed more like a recruiting episode since Whis had to step in. So even if the elimination theory is true, I wouldn't mind. He had focus in the past arcs and I can imagine he will in future arcs as well, so it doesn't bug me.

Re: Why it's okay for Vegeta to get eliminated early.
He got some decent shots in Battle of Gods, and is probably the most respect his character has ever gotten. Although why Goku was chosen over Vegeta for Super Saiyan God ritual was arbitrary by in story logic but whatever.GreatSaiyaJeff wrote:I think it's ok if Vegeta gets eliminated anytime now. But he only beat a weakened Frieza in Rof and then got outsmarted and killed from an explosion that shouldnt have been able to scratch him. Nor did he run out of air because whis and the gang were survived and were right there which Vegeta could sense. Utterly contrived to rob Vegeta of the win.
In Copy Vegeta, Vegeta just stood around waiting to be rescued. Toriyama craps on his character with that pacifier.
In the tournament of power, Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta was humiliated by a foe that base Goku withstood hits from just as well. Goku completely surpasses Vegeta for the first time with Kaioken.
In Zamasu, Vegeta loses badly the first two times, did notable worse than Goku, then gets a cool moment, but is quickly surpassed again, Goku does better than Vegeta in the beam struggle with Zamasu.
In TOP it's all Goku. Vegeta has had a 32 episode fight hiatus.
And now the argument is Vegeta will lose early and that's OK. I think it'd be spite from Toriyama. Like some Vegeta fans wrote him and he decided to spite them by doing the opposite. As he did once before.
