Dragonball Z - Season 3 Set
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
Wow... I don't want to sound like a dick or anything, but these are all minor issues that most people wouldn't give the slightest sh*t about. I mean, common, you guys are all freezing frames that would be almost impossible for some joe-smoe to recollect. I know you are all loyal to the original Japanese master, but this season set looks pretty damn good. Hell, I just finished it on my 64" Widescreen HDTV and really found no problems, not even in the widescreen transfer (except for some minor stuff in the closing still shots, but nothing to worry about).
This is ridiculous, but whatever, to each his own I guess.

I sort of agree, but it's so noticable in this set that you can't ignore it.Arcwave wrote:Wow... Not really, we freeze frame the shots from certain scenes that look bad. Its not like we are freezing a frame, zooming in, highlighting the problem areas and bitching about it. These are all obvious when watching it normally.you guys are all freezing frames that would be almost impossible for some joe-smoe to recollect
Edit: And Iam actually for these sets.

I actually like these sets too, but it has flaws that are undeniable. Plus the fact that I heard it looks like shit in HD, with all of the grain apparent and dirt evrywhere.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Not really, we freeze frame the shots from certain scenes that look bad. The funny thing is that we will still be complaining about the same problems when they release season 8.... But I guess at least the better animation will help it out a little. Either way I still like these sets for what they are. I remember buying this saga on uncut VHS for 20 bucks for 3 episodes, so I am pretty happy.

Also not to sound like a dick, but I think I can pull something from another thread that covers similar territory:Arcwave wrote:Wow... FWIW, I actually discovered that frame when checking the intro for Progressive flags (as it wasn't reading as 100% Film in DGIndex). I'm not so crazy as to suggest not buying a release because of a single flawed frame, I was just stating (as Lemmy suggested) that if FUNimation was only gonna encode the opening once (since it is the EXACT same digital copy each and every time "Head Cha La" plays) you'd think they would encode it...well, competantly.

'Kay, shoot.Toniofalcon wrote:A few questions.
The English score is available for the English audio.Toniofalcon wrote:1). Can you turn on the US music?
This has been a feaure of every FUNimation-released DBZ DVD since the very beginning, and it continues with these Season Sets.Toniofalcon wrote:2). Can you turn on Japanese voices w/ subtitles.
It is. Audio-wise, each of the individual versions has full presentation; English with English music, Japanese with Japanese music and optional subtitles.Toniofalcon wrote:I think the US music really matches the tone of the US dub voices, which I like the dub voices . Basically, I want each dub to go to their respective music. Is this possible?
Hope that helps!

It's going to be weird hearing Gohan's transformation in ep. 185 with the japanese music. I'm so used to seeing that with the U.S music.

Actually, those who didn't buy the Dragon Boxes were perfectly content with FUNimation's older "Ultimate Uncut Releases." FUNi claimed every single frame in the series is being remastered. When shit this noticable pops up on screen WHILE IN MOTION, then it becomes apparent that someone lied about their product even moreso than they originally did.Arcwave wrote:Wow... Yes, they're stopped and have screenshots taken. However, these are not quick blips that pass by. These are during even lengthy segments. Considering we're well aware of these things, most of us are catching these as they happen, rather than going over the scenes again and again to catch them.

Hmm, well, although un-popular, I liked that opening and closing. Also, Popo and such make sense, but I don't like how much re-dubbing is included in this. I'm also really afraid that I'm going to notice those ugly lineless shots.Conan the SSJ wrote:Nope. The opening for both the Dub w/t Japanese music and the Dub w/t TV Broadcast music is the textless Cha-La segment with the Mark Menza instrumental used in DBZ movies 6-7 and 9-12. The ending is the textless version of the Zenkai Power segment with the Japanese song staying in the dub w/t Japanese music track, though the Mark Menza UUE java-lava instrumental is in the TV Broadcast track.Hero 004 wrote:A quick question about the season sets in general. Do they contain the same start up and endings as the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions (the super long one that is shaded red)?
Damn, I'm usually not so negative about stuff, but these boxes are really stacking the odds against my purchasing them.

That's horrible. I've been hearing about how Season 3 is actually decent in it's psuedo-remastering and then there's this?fps_anth wrote:Sorry for the crappy quality (had to save as a .GIF to upload) but this still gets the point across.

Blech. Reminds me of space ship scenes from the start of Season 2 all over again.
Imageshack was being a bitch. .BMP or .PNG was too big for some reason. However, it doesn't really matter. It still looks like crap either way. The weird thing is that during other "earthquake-like" scenes, the lines won't disappear...russ869 wrote:Umm... why?fps_anth wrote:Sorry for the crappy quality (had to save as a .GIF to upload)

BMP's are always huge, since they're uncompressed, and they really aren't suitable for the web anyway. But why not JPG if PNG was too large?fps_anth wrote:Imageshack was being a bitch. .BMP or .PNG was too big for some reason.russ869 wrote:Umm... why?fps_anth wrote:Sorry for the crappy quality (had to save as a .GIF to upload)
Not asking you to redo it or anything, since it certainly gets the point across, but just curious.

Also, as far as the whole debate on the quality of the DVDs and FUNi's lies and such. Yeah, everyone would have liked a better quality job but no one but hardcore fans are actually willing to pay x amount of money for the Dragonbox. Even so, they don't even have English subtitles. I know the series enough to know what's going on, but definitely not enough to accurately know what they are saying in each scene.
Basically, this is the only way that most people can get the Dragon Ball Z material in that form right now. The easiest way, the cheapest way. When you consider the circumstances you will realize that the box set isn't that bad. Nothing that's wrong with the sets could possible get in the way of me enjoying the show.
I can't wait until the Cell Games box set comes out. SSJ 2 Gohan is without a doubt my favorite character in the series. Also, like I said earlier. The music for the US fits the tone that the US version tried to create. I think they're both equally great.
