Re: I was very content with the ending of Dragon Ball GT
GT ending was too on the nose dramatic for me, and it didn't make sense at all, where was Goku going? Why was he then suddenly a grown up saying goodbye? What was Goku up too then? Why should I care if I know absolutely nothing? They tried to play it like some melodramatic play and failed miserably. it wasn't Dragon Ball. At least Z ended we knew where everyone was and that Goku's character had come full circle and is passing the baton on to Uub, a pretty fitting ending for the series. May not be a definitive ending but sometimes you don't need one and at least didn't leave you asking 1000 questions.

They weren't being melodramatic, it was simply vague. He's dead. They don't hit you over the head with it, but it's clear that he's going to some form of the afterlife. You don't need to know much more than he's dead and he comes back to see his great grandson fight in the tournament, just like he came back in the Buu arc. I think people want every little question answered and it's not necessary in this instance.

Guess it was their push to make GT seem like the next level of Z. Which was awesome for me!Cure Dragon 255 wrote:The fake manufactured seriousness by Funimation.Bardo117 wrote:Dan Dan always felt like a Dragon ball(original DB) type song and didn't fit the seriousness of GT.

I do like it for that purpose, anyway. It's a nice little send-off scene, and probably the best possible ending for GT, for whatever that's worth.Ripper 30 wrote:It felt more like a Farewell song which fitted the theme of the show.
My wife once said it sounded like a wedding song, and now I can't associate it with anything else.

I have seen both versions and they both are great. They both hit the emotional core with me, since the Db series is my favorite anime/manga series, so this finale to me gave it a good farewell. I thought Dan Dan Hold My Hand was a great song to end the series with. Sure GT had its problems but the ending was a nice fare well to Goku.

Re: I was very content with the ending of Dragon Ball GT
GT's ending was too schmaltzy and vague for me, but then I found most of GT unsatisfying in some way anyhow.
What I do like about GT's ending however was that they finally gave Goku his adult body back in the flashforward. I'm like, good, at least he wasn't trapped forever in that child body.
Other than that I just thought it was sad; like a depressing kind of sad. As far as we know that's the last Goku ever sees of his immediate family and friends while they're still alive, we don't know where Shenlong takes him (is Goku in some kind of cryostasis for those 100 years? How does he regain consciousness and when? Is there an actual place he goes?) and by then Shenlong had, imo, long since lost his mystique as some kind of mythical creature. He's a being Kami and Popo created to grant wishes; not some big end-all god like he seemed before we knew his backstory.
If they'd shown Goku actually training somewhere in some kind of Shenlong realm I'd have been cool with that, but the way I interpreted what actually happened at the end of GT (Goku going to sleep for 100 years and acting as a battery for the dragon balls during that time) it felt empty.

I was content with the Boo arc ending. And the GT ending. And Battle of Gods as an ending.
So many endings and so much contentment!
Anyway, the GT finale is really damn good. It's completely unlike Toriyama's style, but it's incredibly well done despite that. In general, GT being consistent unto itself, that separation from Toriyama's writing style is one of the more intruiging things about it. It puts an interesting spin on what had by that point become a pretty sprawling mythos.

The good Goku is in the Lodge, and he can't leave. Write it in your diary.Chuquita wrote:Other than that I just thought it was sad; like a depressing kind of sad. I never liked the ending for GT. Too melodramatic and schmaltzy for my tastes.

Nah, I think the emotion was earned. How was it melodramatic?

It felt too depressing because it feels like it's the last time Goku sees his family.ABED wrote:Nah, I think the emotion was earned. How was it melodramatic?

It's sad, but in a cathartic way.

I don't get the lodge and diary reference; from a show or movie I've never watched I guess.

From a lore standpoint, doesn't make a whole lot of sense since we have already seen examples of characters living over a century like Mercenary Tao and his brother who aren't even close to the strength of the Z fighters.sintzu wrote:One of the few things GT did right was ending the story but I wish they could've done something other than killing everyone off after a 100 year time skip. Hopefully Super can find some kind of balance between the original's open ending and GT's closed one.

Battle of gods is a great ending to the original story. What really makes it work is Toriyama bringing back what Roshi told Goku and Krillin back in the 21st Tenkaichi, there's always someone stronger out there.Cipher wrote:I was content with the Boo arc ending. Toriyama took a lot of cultural ideas & concepts and I wouldn't think increasing your lifespan through martial arts would be an exception.ABED wrote:There's no established lore about how long they live.Captain Strawberry wrote:From a lore standpoint, doesn't make a whole lot of sense since we have already seen examples of characters living over a century like Mercenary Tao and his brother who aren't even close to the strength of the Z fighters.sintzu wrote:One of the few things GT did right was ending the story but I wish they could've done something other than killing everyone off after a 100 year time skip. THat's still an assumption and not established lore or dare I say it... canon.
