Opinions on Jiren?

I won't really know till the end of the arc, but he's doing his job right now. As far as characterization goes, I thought this line was interesting:

Toppo: Jiren. Fight to your heart's content. To fulfill your wish. To obtain the Super Dragon Balls!

It's either saying he has a wish he wants to make, or that his wish is to be deemed the best fighter(i.e. obtain the Super Dragon Balls). Can't tell which. I assumed the former when I first read it, but it could be either, and both are interesting.

I didn't like how disrespectful he was to step on his opponent, though.

I kind of like it. Along with being stoic, he's also kind of a dick.

I don't mind his personality but the design is just so uninspired and boring. Just looking at Jiren amkes me want to fall asleep.

Jiren's appeal is solely based on how powerful he is, which ironically was Broly's appeal.


So we can all guess that his popularity won't be very high and no one will like him.

Most horrible antagonist of any shonen series, the guy is a fucking bore, 3 words at best with his typical 1 liners. Quite sad really, I dig his design but his character needs some heavy work, but by now I think that wont be possible.

Worst than Kaguya? Because boy was she god awful?

Kaguya was a plot device and it's a shame she had to be the FV. Especially seeing how Naruto isn't in a rush to end, now that Boruto exists and continues the story.

She had a fairly simple and nice design, but that's about it.

I fully agree with Cipher, it's actually refreshing to have a character that the protagonists are up against that isn't inherently bad, with no odd quirks or anything.

It is like he is the opposite of the expected big bad for an arc, and I find him quite imposing.

I don't quite get when people say he has no character though, it's definitely there. Though I do agree it is a hard one to accurately describe.

He's boring. Thought that's nice as now i want him to be defeated not like with my man Goku Black. So once he gets beaten up, i won't be sad.


But there's something i've been thinking about lately, what if Jiren is not meant to be a character but a symbol? what if Jiren is an immovable object.
Maybe he's the Superman of db and right now we have witnessed a canon fight between these two guys

love him so far. all the people who said hes boring have no sense of good charecters. they think if you are silent then you must be boring. jiren lack of speech is what makes him so cool

I'm not a fan of his design. He is just a generic alien on steroids that would make Arnold Schwarzenegger jealous, and carries the bland Pride Troopers outfit. He has no personality that would make him stand out unlike a few other ToP characters, and he is also lacking in the moveset department, but the last one is justified since he hasn't shown much of his power.

He has no character at all, or nothing going for him, but being strong; I can’t find how anyone would call him interesting. I hope the writers don’t pull the old stick, by giving him some type of underlying motive, like making his wish with SDBs unique or noble will give him character.

Not at fan of him,i mean i like his design & voice but his personality is just boring like i'm not against stoic character there my favorite type of character but the way they handle him was meh,i prefer dyspo and toppo all over him because there were at least entertaining to watch.

I actually like him. Finally an antagonist that is not "HURR DURR I'm EVIL", and instead of black and white morality, everything is gray. Literally.

i loved the design, the badassery and his power. I think the series will develop him further, as this is not the last time we will see he fighting. We need more backstory so he doesn't become another Hit, but i'm satisfied with what we got UNTIL THIS POINT.

Jiren has as much personality as that Hatchiyack guy nobody remembers. At least the latter had a cool design too.

I believe someone already started this but it's like the Kaioshin said " he's powerful, plain and simple" not only is that a description of his strength but also his design and personality there's no wasted lines or energy just pure badass plus he's alpha as fuck and to me that's his character he's a alpha male

He even emasculate Goku (another alpha male) in front of everyone to show who was the big dog in the yard. In other words by dominating one of the biggest threats in the ToP it might break the other participants will to fight. u11 GoD even said that was the plan

I like Jiren he's a real man amongst men and a worthy opponent for Goku. the real fun will be seeing if Goku can get through that tough exterior and befriend him like all his other enemies

His lack of personality is is personality, he don't always need someone goofy or crazy, he is powerful and he's not coy about it. We don't need an antagonist that constantly monologues gibberish. Someone has compared him to Broly, but not really, Broly was a flat out bad guy that wanted to kill, Jiren is just fighting in a tournament of survival and he isn't obnoxiously over the top as Broly either.

Like Hit I am sure we'll eventually maybe get more depth for him but as of right now he is what we need him to be.
