Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
If Kamen Rider and Super Sentai took at huge hit in ratings too it's probably more likely that those two shows will just get moved again, Fuji TV can probably just wait this out.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Well, this is....disheartening. I wonder if this was in part because no OP aired that day. OP didn't have great ratings either but they were better than DB's. While I'd like for it to get a new timeslot, I'm pretty sure it won't be separated from OP and OP had that spot for years if I am not mistaken.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
So one of, if not the most hyped up episode, one of the most important episodes of the whole series....has the worst ratings. Not by a little bit either but by a significant amount because prior to this the lowest was 4.3%.
If One Piece's TV rating weren't dropping just as hugely, I'd be really worried right now. I don't know what the hell happened but the ratings really went to shit for both shows in the past few months.
Thankfully the merchandise sales are supposed to be great so there shouldn't be any cancellation worries. Again we'll see how the ratings are next week when it all returns to normal but they might need to change something up.

Again, it's due to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai now airing at the same time. OP's special got really high DVR ratings (we don't have Super's) and Super broke tons of streaming services. Everything is fine, it's probably more likely that Super Sentai and Kamen Rider will get moved again since they apparently took a big hit too.Michsi wrote:Well, this is....disheartening. Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I wonder, does Japan watch Super online illegally? As far as I know it's not officially streamed online in Japan like it is in the west, for the obvious reason that it airs on TV over there when it's new.
So all the Japanese fans who follow the show are probably not watching it on TV, just watching it later on illegally online. Of course that hurts ratings and advertiser sales, but I guess those are the breaks.

Can you give the ratings for them??? I wanna compare the "hit" they tookArchedThunder wrote:Again, it's due to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai now airing at the same time. I haven't seen them, I'm just going by what other people have said, hence me saying "apparently".DSB wrote:Can you give the ratings for them??? The thing that is bizarre is Super has only been airing for a little over 2 years since June 2015...and it's literally lost like half its viewers. Even worse when you realize the crappy movie adaption episodes have the highest ratings when most people already saw those stories with the two movies.

I think Super will get cancelled soon.precita wrote:The thing that is bizarre is Super has only been airing for a little over 2 years since June 2015...and it's literally lost like half its viewers. Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
That still means it's losing to competition though. I read somewhere that DVR numbers made things better for OP , but it still means a lot of people would rather watch something else when the episode airs. I'm not saying this will lead to cancellation or something like that, just that it's kinda sad to see that DB isn't pulling in anywhere near the numbers it used to. And yes, I am aware that the current socioeconimic landscape etc is also a factor, that every franchise is affected in a way, but still...ArchedThunder wrote:Again, it's due to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai now airing at the same time. Yes, one of the move viewed anime each week, Toei's #1 money maker and Bandai's #2 will get canceled because ratings are lower.DSB wrote:I think Super will get cancelled soon.precita wrote:The thing that is bizarre is Super has only been airing for a little over 2 years since June 2015...and it's literally lost like half its viewers. It's not getting canceled.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The difference is Dragonball merch will continue to sell without a show on the air, just like it did from the year 2000-2013 when we had little to nothing going on besides Kai.
The videoagames and toys never stopped.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The same is largely true for One Piece though. I'm looking at the ratings for that show from 2 years ago and we haveprecita wrote:The thing that is bizarre is Super has only been airing for a little over 2 years since June 2015...and it's literally lost like half its viewers. 8.1%
7.7%
7.8%
7.6%
8.7%
8.4%
Nowadays most episodes seem to be in the 6% range. The special just like Dragon Ball Super had the lowest ratings in its entire run with only 4.7%.
Other anime in general have declined quite a bit over the last couple of years as well. These falling rating are clearly not exclusive to Dragon Ball Super.
To me it seems that just like in US, less and less people are watching TV these days. And if that Kamen Rider and Super Sentai series switched it's time slots starting from last week then that would explain the sharp decline that these specials have had this week and last week.

Dragon Ball merch sales have gone way up because of Super.precita wrote:The difference is Dragonball merch will continue to sell without a show on the air, just like it did from the year 2000-2013 when we had little to nothing going on besides Kai.

Super's not getting canceled, it's not even at risk for it.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Kamen Rider/Super Sentai are even lower. Somewhere in the 2% range from what I've heard. Since they are live action and live action has much higher viewership than animation, it is even more hard to get data of those. But, the source from what I've heard is trustworthy. Well, at least as far as I'm concerned.
So, yeah this strategy of airing at the same time has massively backfired and it is affecting all of them. The next few weeks should be interesting and if the ratings don't show signs of improvement, some changes should be expected I guess.

I'd guess if Fuji TV isn't happy they'll wait it out a bit to see if Asashi moves Kamen Rider and Super Sentai again, and if they don't they'll probably just move Super and OP.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Kamen Rider/Super Sentai are even lower. Toei is probably going to try and push Asashi to move Super Sentai and Kamen Rider I'd bet.

But come on man this rating is almost insulting for a special that had 2 of the best episodes in Super. And one of them being in the TOP 5 episodes in the entire franchise.
For heavens sake this broke the internet and its the first time anything related to DB did it.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
the next few weeks will be worse, since they are not "special", I expect a change of schedule to DBS
the risk of cancellation is 0%, DBS generates twice as much profit as OP, In sales DB generates a lot and will continue to generate even if its rating has gone down.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
If you yourself know the major popularity the show had online...why are you saying its getting cancelled? It, as you said, broke the internet because so many people online watched it.
