At this point I think they'll just go ahead and make Trunks, Goten, Pan, Uub, and maybe Bra or Maron the next major characters. It will be called, "Dragonball: The Next Generation" and focus on all the kid characters.
I am sure you did a lot of market research to know this is exactly what Japanese Dragon Ball fans want
Meanwhile Goku remains the most popular character

People have been clamoring for EOZ characters or stories since before Super even started. Trunks/Goten, Uub and Pan would naturally be a major focus of those stories even if Goku is still around in some form.

So no actual data.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

That isn’t the same thing as market research or even taking a poll.

Which I also meant, the Japanese fandom on their twitters, fanarts, or posts also imply they like Trunks/Goten, Pan, etc.

That still isn’t the same as a poll and liking a character doesn’t mean you want them as MCs.

I am sure there is fan art of every character in Dragonball. There is no way Goten, Trunks, Pan are as popular as you seem to think. And I love Goten & Trunks btw.
As a Vegeta fan I can tell you there is tons of fan art & doujinshi about him but I am not under the false perception that he is more popular than Goku.

The show would be good for a refresher after the TOP arc ends. Give us some slice of life peacetime fillers, maybe some Yamcha focus

and then skip ahead to EOZ.
As said, Trunks adult design is very popular and his and Future Trunk's personality is practically the same so Toei would love to use him again. Adult Goten is like a cross between Gohan and Yamcha so they know they'll use him as the funny comic relief character. Then Uub is just important to DBZ's epilogue and I can't see them leaving out Pan.

People are not interested in a show without Goku in it/Goku not being a major factor. No one cares about Bra, no one cares about Pan. No one cares about Goten, no one cares about Kid Trunks (least of all the writers!) and no one cares about Uub.
These are barely relevant characters. No one right now is clamoring for a spin off series featuring Bra, Pan, Goten, Trunks, and Uub. All of them are barely developed (or not developed at all!) characters. How are you going to have characters that are so barely developed become main characters of a new series?
Gohan took on the main character role at the beginning of the Buu arc. How'd that work out for him? Well it wasn't bad per se, but people obviously wanted Goku a lot more. But that was Gohan, a character that was already very well developed and well liked. How do you think someone like Uub or Bra would do instead in the main character role? Hint: They wouldn't do well at all.

Respectfully, that is opinion, not fact.
Plenty of people are clamoring for Goten, Trunks and other underutilized characters to be given screentime for development. They have been since the series ended. I do think that the next step shoukd be to involve them some way, not as /the/ main character, but as characters who are functional to the plot.
"The writers" obviously care to some degree. Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten the (admittedly subpar) Copy-Vegeta arc. Toei involves Goten and Trunks where it can in filleresque ways, keeping them warm in a sense, because at the moment Toriyama hasn't. And Pan is definitely being pushed as a thing. There's no reason an arc or show that makes an honest attempt to give characters like these sonething to do could not work.

The
NUMBER ONE Goten fan, and a fucking epic one at that.

While I would love for Super to go Post EOZ, I guarantee you Goku will still be one of the main characters. However I would love a time skip that makes Pan about age 17 and her and Uub both being trained by Goku and Vegeta. Whis and Beerus still in the story obviously but man SSB Pan or even SSJ would be awesome to see if Toriyama continues the characterization she has in Super and Z not GT!!!

The TOP does feel like a "last hurrah" to the current DBZ cast.
In the next tournament I fully expect Trunks, Goten and Uub to be there in place of Roshi/Tien/Krillin at the least. It would make sense if Goku was training Uub for the following tournament, and Trunks and Goten will be adults and much more viable fighters.

That's a franchise killer if I ever saw one.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I love how people think established characters who have been around for decades will kill the franchise. Also you guys are kidding yourselves if you honestly believe Toei will never do anything with Pan or Uub either, given you can tell how much they want to use them but can't due to the current timeline.

At the end of the day the anime is just the icing on the cake, it's made to sell toys, merch, and video games. Anything more like the manga and anime is just flat out icing on the cake that's not needed. No matter how low the ratings I doubt it really effects the status of the show. If the anime was made to sell itself like most adapted from manga bad ratings would mean bad news for both the anime and possibly the manga. We are in a good situation here where it's made to sell toys, just like Yu-Gi-Oh! is there to keep the cards alive. Though I doubt a bad rating here and there is anything to go by.

I wasn't really Implying that Japanese people don't care at all because they do specially the older fans but still the Anime Version of the Show has become a thing of the past atleast manga is popular but whenever someone talks to them about anime they say One Piece, Love Live or Naruto. when someone asked them about Dragon Ball anime they say it's too old or too long but that's the younger generation I couldn't find the source but when I do I will post.
I prefer Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, DB/Z/GT Movies, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT in Japanese.
For DBZ Kai and two new Movies I like both Dub and Sub. I Prefer Shunsuke Kikuchi Soundtracks over All other Composers.

One Piece yes but Dragon Ball is definitely more popular than Naruto in Japan
And Love Live is popular but with a completely different demographic.

And yet Dragonball Super does better in the ratings than Boruto which is what this thread is about so it seems your theory may not be accurate. It’s defintely primarily kids watching Super in Japan on Sunday morning.
