Whew, it’s been awhile. I’ve been lurking a long while, but something just happened that really grinds my gears. F’ing Funimation’s episode “limits” on episodes per release. Just finished set 2 and they leave off the LAST episode of Golden Freeza saga!? Really? That really grinds my gears. They weren’t hurting for space on the disc, it was only 4 episodes on disc two.
well back to lurking. Carry on.

Re: Things that grind your gears
Actually, the term "SSJ" is not official at all, it was never used by Japanese products or Japanese people. It's only used by people in the West, and like I said, it's not official in any product.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Right and I also still use it because it actually describes what the form is, it is a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. "Super Saiyan Blue" does not describe what it is in the slightest, it is like calling SS2 "Super Saiyan Lightning effects" or SS3 "Super Saiyan no eyebrows".VegettoEX wrote:This is still what it's called, written as, and referred to in every official merchandise and production capacity other than in-show/comic dialog.PremiumSalt wrote:I still see some people insist on calling it SSGSS, and it makes my brain cry out in pain every time I see it.
Funny thing is, it seems only westerners really had "J" with SS. Like Merchandise never use "J" and DBS writer Toshio also never uses "J" on twitter (at least from what I seen).MajinMan wrote:I don't know if it grinded my gears or not, but I remember back in the day people used to write SSGSS as "SSJSSJG." My eyes hurt just looking at it. Thank god it got Super Saiyan Blue as a name or else we would still be seeing that abomination today.

I agree with you, but to be fair, if it grinds his gears it grinds his gears, that's what this thread is for. But I guess that logic applies to you too then so...uh...yeahDbzfan94 wrote:Comments like this grinds my gears. Clinging to the idea that DB is a superhero story.
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

Strawman arguments and that's not limited to DB, either.
Another is "you think you're always right". Everyone thinks they are. It's such a ridiculous statement. I can't believe anyone can say it with a straight face and be so unaware.

Another thing that grinds my gears is people that have to take there opinions into other topics on forums for no good reason,it's like they really feel the need to be "right" to the point of ridiculousness.

I would like to clarify, my last statements weren't passive aggressively aimed at anyone in particular. Those have been long standing pet peeves of mine. "You think you're always right" is as silly as when people claim "there are no absolutes". Except that one apparently. I heard both unironically a lot in college.

Re: Things that grind your gears
God, this annoys the hell of out me. The Goku and gang have never, ever, ever been portrayed as superheroes in the conventional sense in any Dragon Ball story. While they do have their heroic moments, they aren't going around enforcing people the law with superhuman abilities like the Justice League or the Avengers.ABED wrote:Clinging to the idea that DB is a superhero story.
Spoiler:
Re: Things that grind your gears
They might not be your conventional heroes, like Dr. Manhatten(watches The Comedian shoot the pregnant Vietnamese lady and does nothing) or Rorschach(Kills criminals because he doesn't believe in the justice system) or even Deadpool! There are TONS of characters who aren't conventional but they're still superheros of sorts.
I don't completely consider them superheros, but it's not blasphemy to claim they are. There are very legitimate reasons they could be considered. There are many many threats that the Avengers bring to earth simply because they exist. Same with Goku and his friends. They bring trouble with them and have to get the entire planet out of harms way. They consistently take measures to protect and save the earth, and consistently fight outside of cities and populated areas.
Goku has attracted every single bad guy in the series to earth or in proximity to earth because of his strength, and if he doesn't save the world, who else would? He might be looking for a good fight all of the time or searching for the best fighter, but he simultaneously has to save the earth because of this.

It's not blasphemy, but it's incorrect. Deadpool isn't a superhero, he's an antihero.

Elitist Otaku jerks calling Dragon Ball a mindless fighting show with no brains or Plot and Bland Characters with no depth.
I prefer Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, DB/Z/GT Movies, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT in Japanese.
For DBZ Kai and two new Movies I like both Dub and Sub. I Prefer Shunsuke Kikuchi Soundtracks over All other Composers.

If I was the strongest person on earth, and I constantly brought trouble because of my strength, and only I could stop these threats then that would make me a superhero. Intentionally or not.

Re: Things that grind your gears
Goku doesn't merely attract threats, he lets them go so he has something to fight. Imagine if Superman let Darkseid live just so he had someone to trade punches with, of if Batman let The Riddler go because he wanted a mystery he could solve. Would that be heroism? It's not the same as their strength inviting challenge, as Vision put it.Bardo117 wrote:If I was the strongest person on earth, and I constantly brought trouble because of my strength, and only I could stop these threats then that would make me a superhero. Re: Things that grind your gears
Goku and the gang trained for the arrival of the Saiyans just for a good fight, clearly the fate of the world was never on there minds. Goku himself was scared shitless that he'd arrive late, because he'd miss his good fight, right?Bardo117 wrote:If I was the strongest person on earth, and I constantly brought trouble because of my strength, and only I could stop these threats then that would make me a superhero. To not even consider them unlikely heros of sorts is beyond ridiculous. Is even uttering the term hero like insulting a person's mom to some people? Sheesh.
Re: Things that grind your gears
Yeah and that's why I brought up my point (I think in another thread) of the OG dub sort of scarring people into not wanting to hear anything heroic about Goku at all.MR.Mark wrote:Goku and the gang trained for the arrival of the Saiyans just for a good fight, clearly the fate of the world was never on there minds. Though to be fair, I've even seen criticism from Toriyama before towards Toei for making Goku more heroic in the anime than he ever intended.
Re: Things that grind your gears
Indeed, I don't think anyone here is implying the DB gang is the justice league, that's the other extreme and a mega exaggeration when all we're trying to say is that they are flawed unlikely heros of sorts. They defeat the bad guys at the end of the day, Dragon Ball would just be a series about tournaments with no super villains. It's not so black and white all about a good fight, way to narrow a viewpoint.Forte224 wrote:Yeah and that's why I brought up my point (I think in another thread) of the OG dub sort of scarring people into not wanting to hear anything heroic about Goku at all.MR.Mark wrote:Goku and the gang trained for the arrival of the Saiyans just for a good fight, clearly the fate of the world was never on there minds. Batman lets the Joker go knowing he would probably escape. Batman let's Ra's Al Ghul live, even though he wasn't aware that he was secretly Ra's Al Ghul.

That was out of a sense of justice though. Goku let Vegeta go because he wanted to fight him again, not out of a sense of justice unless you go by the dub dialogueBardo117 wrote:Batman lets the Joker go knowing he would probably escape.
