I never liked much Caulifla hair (Base, SSJ) it looks pretty generic to me.

That was a fun one. Didn't really go in with the best of hopes when it came to the storyboard given there were three of them, but they actually came out on top. Really helped elevate some of the more limited scenes.

I'm not a huge fan of Nii's style, but if there were ever an episode to potentially win me over, it'd be this. Lots of great looking stuff from him in that first half. Some very classic Z vibes going on in places.

Shimanuki's mostly great as we know, and his ability to draw lovely flowy Super Saiyan hair will never not make me happy, but he really struggles with women. It the same on One Piece. Softer features don't really seem to fit his style.

Couple of nice bits of movement in the second half. Will have to check the scenes out more closely, but I'd guess that they're from Higashide.

(I'm really behind on the catalogue. I'll catch up soon~ Been focusing too hard on YouTube videos lately)

That was painful to look at. Poorly drawn poses (in particular, the legs) combined with terrible timing really was a pain to watch. I hope Takahashi can salvage Episode #114.

Kitano continues to be a bad luck charm despite being reduced to just key animator

Bad animators will always produce bad animation.

This. Boy does Kitano shine though, He could just do inbetween frames and I would be able to pick him out.

I thought this episode was mostly standard with some great animation moments (or maybe I'm blinded by the good choreography) and some little sub par ones. I have to agree some poses were really questionable. Why is Kitano even an animator? He really is just bad. How doesn't he feel bad about his own work?

Still, a solid episode to me, art was mostly consistent and the fights were good.

Exactly. We had way worse episodes than this, I thought this one was good in terms of animation and art.

Same. There were a couple of nice close-ups of leg and arm rotations in the first half that looked really good and helped the limited animation feel more lively.

Strangely, Ajay is the least critical person on this episode.

I thought it was nice, but I also thought last week's episode was only okay with some nice shots, while everyone else praised it, so what do I know.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Ah, yes, I'm being picky. You have succiently dismissed my post while framing yours as reasonable. Bravo!

Assholery aside, what the hell is the point of being in this thread if you are not going to have some standards? "I'm going to the internet--a tool for learning--to learn, but not actually let any sort of knowledge inform my opinions!"

This is nowhere near good directing or good animation. It's nowhere near 'just fine'. Characters are moving awkwardly, characters' legs are and clothing folds make no sense! The episode director isn't intelligently reusing cuts to lower the number of necessary new cuts to give the key animators more time.

This episode is a fucking Frankenstein monster stitched together in three weeks and too stubborn to make its life easier.

Who did that cut of Goku blocking the ki blasts with his aura? That was nice.

I agree, 111 and 113 are great examples of how bad posing in key frames can dilute and diminsh impact instead of accentuating it. TBH, I think Shimanuki's corrections are to blame for the majority of the main offenders, his key animation really isn't what it used to be and his corrections did drag down the work of other animators potentially interesting cuts.

Considering Hideki Hiroshima's track record as a director on the show, how the episode turned out isn't too surprising.

I think in terms of animation it was ok. I still enjoyed the episode though. The SS transformations felt really nice. 111 and 113 had a much larger staff list than 112, and its obvious that 112 had a better production. But it was also obvious that the episodes following the special were gonna get affected. This episode is probably a result of that. Though despite its faults, I still enjoyed the episode. There was not much of a story and it was mostly just a fight, but it was a good moment for the characters IMO. Goku looked really badass and I liked Caulifla in the episode as well. Sometimes actions do speak louder than words and this episode showcased that.

And when it comes to opinions, I think its absolutely fine that someone likes/dislikes an episode more than you do. It may feel annoying to you, but you have to live with it and give others a chance to express themselves freely. I don't want to get too sidetracked, but there are far more critical issues in life where the same applies, and its just an anime that we are discussing here. Your own opinion matters the most. If you really like it, the rest doesn't matter tbh.

The episode was a little bit of a step back, reused some animation from tate kuirin shouting goku and caulifla vs goku reusing a yashima coreography cut, which is weird, because they picked one of the worst animators to reuse.
Noticed ssj1 hair when ssj2 goku was fighting vs the girls, this is the 2nd time shimanuki does that, the first was in the black vs goku in the present time

The shot of goku ssj3 was macnificient, so Z esque.

I don't seem to find those weird poses you're talking about, can you screenshot them?
