If don't like Cali and Kale, I can see why you wouldn't like this. The sniper one for all its flaws did have the biggest usage of the cast since everyone outside of the androids and Freeza was in it. Plus, the plot didn't really move since no eliminations, while 106 had four, the most since 101.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Except that I admit that the episode was average. Even though I subjectively liked it/enjoyed it.
However, I simply don't understand how this episode was so horrible that people want to drop the whole show.
I think it has to do with that fact that it was centered on Goku, Caulifla and Kale. While Goku may be divisive somewhat, the latter two are polarizing due to their ammount of focus, becoming very powerful seemingly out of nowhere, and their personalities. It doesn't help that we already had a similar episode (episode 100) that also focused on them, and the next two episodes (114 and 115) will also be focusing on them and their fusion. Let's not forget that aside from these two and Goku, no one else made an appearance at all despite two other big fights going on (Vegeta vs. Toppo and Gohan and Piccolo vs. U6 namekians), and some are more interested in those than on this one.

Probably because some of us enjoyed the fight and found it good. I certainly prefer it over most fights this saga.
It was one fighter trying the same over and over again and failing. That then does the same thing with her friend and failed again. This fight just showed us how useless at fighting Kale and Caulifla are.

That is exactly why episode 106 was better. This is the first episode of the tournament that could be skipped as nothing happened. The only reason I see for this episode existing is to promote Kale and Caulifla even though they are 2 fighters who don't need it.

We do to explained next episode and every episode is promoting fighters, so this is an odd complaint.

My biggest problem with these past few episodes is that barely anyone has been eliminated. Since the Jiren fight, we've only had 2 eliminations. Like those robots that Cauli kicked away should have been knocked out.

The other episodes actually progressed the tournament however this episode just showed us what we already knew. The episode made Caulifla and Kale look even worse at fighting then they did before and it made Goku look better at the end of it.

Worse how? They're brawlers that dominated Goku when they started working together.

Actually, it showed us Cali and Kali getting stronger, their teamwork we have never seen before, and the growth Kale experience since 100.

The episode made Goku look good as an experience fighting, it make Cali look good for being able to adapt fast and even managed to surprised Goku several times, and Kale looked good since she got to show her fighting ability when she works with Cali outside of a beam struggle.

I think people are getting confused by power levels because they don't understand what is really happening with Goku. Or Toei isn't making it clear enough.

Goku goes SSJ2 to keep up, but that doesn't mean he is going at max power. The entire time, he has been toying with Cauli because he enjoys having a fight and was using them to sharpen his senses. He COULD have likely just gone 100% SSJ2 and instantly destroyed her, but just like he always does in every form, he transforms just enough so he can keep maintaining a 50/50 split of power.

In other words:

Base Goku (tired): 10
Cauli SSJ2: 50

Goku keeps up using martial arts skill, but then Cauli adapts, and now her power + skill is too much. So Goku transforms:

Goku SSJ2 (tired): 100
Cauli SSJ2: 50

But Goku isn't going to just end the fight. That's no fun. Instead he scales himself down to 50 to match Cauli and help train her.

Goku SSJ2 (suppressed): 50
Cauli SSJ2: 50

My only problem with the episode was repeating animation so much for the fight, but otherwise I liked it.

At first, but it was stated he wasn't losing against them. They weren't dominating him by any means. Regardless though, I found the fight fun. Not to mention the feeling I got from this episode was that it was clearly a setup episode.

I don't think it's mandatory that every episode has at least one character being eliminated. If they can still provide and entertaining battle or good character interactions, let them stick around for a bit longer. In fact, this was biggest have with the first dozen episodes of the Tournament Of Power, way too many character were getting eliminated in too short spans of time from on another. I understand that in every tournament in Dragon Ball there are always going to weaksauce competitors that exist to solely make up the numbers and make other character look better, especially with the setting and circumstances that come with the Tournament Of Power, but there's nothing wrong with letting some of the other ultimately inconsequential characters getting a bit more spotlight before they get eventually dumped out and we never hear or see them again.

It was pretty even once Cali got her head together and Kale and Cali together did give Goku issues.

I personally feel many characters getting eliminated at once early on was a good thing. The way Toei went about this, if they gave focus to each character like they did the Trio de Dangers or U6 girls, we'd be at ep 200 by the time it's over. The fodder getting eliminated quickly really improved the pace. And as they dwindle down, it's understandable that the eliminations slow down as well. But with all of these fights happening supposedly at the same time, it's a little far fetched that barely anyone got eliminated.

I'm not saying it's mandatory, but it just feels like they're artificially dragging it out. Little things, like instead of cutting back to Beerus and Champa repeating the same thing over and over, they could have cut to 17 and 18 knocking someone out.

And like I mentioned before, I see no point in why those robots couldnt have been eliminated, they add nothing.

For the most part I enjoyed the episode. The interaction between Goku, Caulifla, and Kale was really nice to see and I really liked that Caulifla felt responsible for picking up the weight for Cabba and Hit.

But a few things left a lingering sour taste in my mouth. Mostly it stems from that conversation between Beerus and Champa about dealing with Jiren. It felt like it came just shy of the writers admitting that Goku vs Jiren is the only thing that really matters in this tournament. Champa was treated like a dumbass for wanting to avoid a fight with Jiren and win through numbers when that is a viable strategy and what Universe 7 themselves would have to do if Goku hadn't conveniently bungled his way into Ultra Instinct courtesy of his plot armor. And never mind that beating Jiren doesn't win the tournament.

That leads into my complaints from last week. It feels like none of the characters outside of U11 or U7 are allowed to develop or do too much before they're fodderized by Jiren or someone from U7.

I want to get excited for Kefla but I'm about 90% sure she'll get thrown into the trash by 116 even though she could be a major late game player so Goku can go back to his one-sided mancrush on Jiren.

What are they trying to accomplish with this arc? U11 was built as the main antagonist but they spend most of their time faffing around offscreen and Jiren has no chemistry with anyone yet. He's basically Belmod's cardboard proxy stapled to a high power level. The writers are really gonna kill everyone super serious dead this time for real you guys honest :^)...but they're laying the groundwork for a Sadala story and teasing it so hard it's practically foreplay. Universe 7 is barely struggling and anyone who goes up against Goku ends up looking like a clown after a trip on the Holding Back express. Nobody looks good fighting him except Jiren and it doesn't give Goku a bump. So what's the point here? Just a U7 puff piece to give Goku Ultra Instinct? It doesn't feel like anything else is being accomplished beyond that.

Hopefully the future episodes prove me totally wrong.

I don't know why people act so angry and surprised at the fact that Goku is training them mid-tournament just to see how strong they can get even though they're technically his enemies. Like, is this your first time watching Dragon Ball? Do you not know who Goku is or what his character is or the type of stuff he does? It's so blatantly in character that I have to wonder how and why people are even questioning it.

Also, I don't understand the praise this episode gets for the actual fight itself. Can anyone explain to me why the fight was good? From my angle it looked like some very, very lackluster choreography with Caulifla and Goku punching each other/ki blasting each other over and over again while shouting, sometimes there would be something slightly more unique like the afterimage or Goku's continuous use of IT. It was better than the ep100 fight but not by very much.

I wouldn't have had such a problem with this episode if the fight didn't bore me to death. If we're doing 3 episodes of this, the other 2 better have a lot better fight scenes to make up for it.

Finally got around to watching the episode. It was....okay. Not the best in terms of animation, but definitely not the worst.

I don't care about power levels and don't really pay attention to them, but even I could tell this episode would drive those who try to keep track of them crazy.

After rewatching.. I feel like the whole fight and interactions had a tired father from work and his 2 daughters harassing their dad to go buy them a toy but daddy over there teaching/schooling them that "you better work for that shit"
