Scenes that the Anime did better than the Manga
I was just watching the episode "Free the Future" and thought this up. What scenes do you think the Anime did better than the Manga? Whether it be a change or some added filler.
To start off, I think in the Episode Free The Future the scene with the old man shooting 17 was better. In the Manga 17 kills him, yet in the Anime Trunks arrives just in time to save the old man.

I agree with this one. Sort of solidified that notion that they'd rather go out fighting than being on the sidelines just watching as if they were cowards. Even though they knew they didn't stand a chance of doing anything to help the situation, to see them getting back up and trying again and again was definately how I think the scene should have played out in the manga.Tsukento wrote:Having Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Piccolo and Kuririn try to distract Cell while helping Gohan during their Kamehame-Ha clash. It felt so awesome to actually have them DO SOMETHING.

100% with ya' on this one, Chuquita! ^^Chuquita wrote:The episode inside of Buu where Goku and Vegeta meet the worms (ep 274). I just loved Vegeta's panicked reactions the entire time; it's something you rarely ever see from him.
And then later on when he gets slimed with goo. XD
Oh, and Vegetto being able to battle Super Buu in his normal form and still out-class him!

I agree, except when Goku introduces Super Saiyan 3 in the series, it was way too long. In the manga it only lasts for a few panels.Super Sonic wrote:The Super Saiyan Transformations.
And surprisingly, I'm not a huge fan of the Super Saiyan 3 theme.

But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Fake Namek sucked.
My favorite scenes were the SSJ2 Goku vs. Majin Vegeta fight, which was only a few panels in the manga, the base Vegetto stuff, and SSJ1 Goku vs. Kid Buu.

The scene in the original Dragonball series where Krillin is killed.
In the manga, he goes off to get the Dragonball and the Nyoibo staff for Goku. Goku and the others hear him scream and find him dead.
In the anime, when Krillin goes to recover the items, Goku stops him and he (along with everyone else) give him this long stare (as if to foreshadow something is about to happen). The whole time Krillin is gone, Goku is distracted and "not hungry". Then finally Goku just "knows" something has happened to Krillin, which is symbolized by the shattering of the glass, time freezing, hearing Krillin call his name in his mind.
I just loved the way, the anime was able to convey the bond between Goku and Krillin in that scene so deeply, and in such a way that you (or at least I) may not get from just reading it.

Having Trunks save the day like that makes him seem more like the hero he is now, and emphasizes how the Future World is safe now that Trunks is around.Kunzait_83 wrote:I'm curious; how does that make the scene "better"?Lavender Saiyan wrote:To start off, I think in the Episode Free The Future the scene with the old man shooting 17 was better. completely OTM, the most heartbreaking scene in the entire series.the_abberration wrote:The scene in the original Dragonball series where Krillin is killed.

Straight up, I love the first death of Kuririn.the_abberration wrote:The scene in the original Dragonball series where Krillin is killed.

I would definatly have to say the Z Warriors VS Perfect Cell of course, as well as the elongation of the Goku VS Majin Vegeta fight; especialy since that's my favorite fight in the series for multiple reasons.
But the number one thing that I think the anime (or rather TV special) did better than the manga was making Future Trunks' first Super Saiyan transformation a reaction to Gohan's murder. That added so much more drama to Trunks' development and him and Gohan's relationship. That scene is one of the main reasons why that movie hits my emotional buttons every time I watch it. I also think it's cool that this version sort of mirrors Goku's first, with a best friend dying and everything.
To be honest, I'm suprised Toriyama didn't think of this himself, or maybe he did, but he decided not to follow through. Either way, I'm glad the special did it this way.

Bah, the anime just prolonged things. Although, I admit it's good sometimes, but most of the time it's crap. Like Trunks saving the old man...Umm, that's just changing the original storyline, which I'll never like. Another example is when Tenshinhan goes to King Piccolo to rice-cook his ass, his rice cooker is broken, so then he says screw it, he'll fight Piccolo without using the mafuba, flies down and then fights Drum. In the anime, he does something else...Can't remember, but it's stupid. But his rice cooker isn't broken, and he uses the mafuba or something.
Dude, fake namek was god-awful. Seriously, it was like 5 episodes of crappy filler.

My picks
Everyone helping to kill Cell.
Drivers License Episode.
Princess Snake (I love that episode).
The Great Saiyaman Stuff added to Gohans everyday life in highschool.
The Super Saiyajin transformations.
The Goku at SSJ2 vs Boo (The fight itself) even though I would have prefered SSJ3 since he would get his ass kicked at SSJ2.
The Non SSJ Gotenks and Vegetto stuff.
