Too bad, it looks like theres no Vegeta in this film. Still it saves his character being butured like poor Goku.Humpski wrote:Johnny Ngyugen should play Vegeta.

In all seriousness, I kinda like the way the characters are being adapted, if the news is legit. Their backgrounds and descriptions are a little bit different, sure, but not to the degree where they can't be acceptably recognized as the same characters.
Should Goku look Asian? Yeah, he probably should, maybe a few others as well. Not everyone HAS to, though. Robin Shou? *Looks up* Yeah, I can see him as Goku (Same with the notion of Jet Li as Vegeta). He looks the part (and it's a bonus if he really DOES know his DB stuff), at least, but I oughta find some clips and see how well he can act.
Sorry to disappoint Conan (or anyone else keen on the idea), but I really think Tom Welling won't and shouldn't be cast as Goku. He's already to infamous and recognizeable as Superman/Clark Kent at this point.

But Robin Shou is gay ("bisexual" is the more technical term for Robin). Seriously, my friend's sifu worked with him many times and he tried to mack on him before. Wu Jing is more or less the better candidate to play Goku and he is also well trained in martial arts. His usual friendly look suits Goku better than Robin Shou's seriousness.mystic trunks wrote:I think Robin looks more like goku and he is highly trained. The guy is in phenominal shape. I think his personality fits goku well too.tinlunlau wrote:Robin Shou doesn't have that "family guy" look that Goku has.mystic trunks wrote:I think Robin Shou should play Goku. I read in an interview that he is even a fan of the manga so he already knows it pretty well.
I think someone younger like Wu Jing (most well known for the recent "S.P.L.") deserves the role more since he has the kid-friendly look as well as his skills in wushu taken in consideration.
The world is your's.

Dragon Ball Z set for a supposed Fall 08' release.

Why are they still putting a Z at the end? That makes absolutely all kinds of no sense.

He (Gohan) is weaker. He has the fighting spirit of a wet noodle soaked in water until it barely resembles a noodle. A pebble is tougher than Gohan, because you could conceivably trip on a rock and stub your toe, while Gohan would yield like so much melted pudding. Vanilla pudding. Because he's too pansy-ass to have a strong flavor if he was pudding. Pure water has more flavor than hypothetical Gohan-pudding.
.... I think I lost where I was going there.[/quote]

Good question.Carrie wrote:Why are they still putting a Z at the end? That makes absolutely all kinds of no sense.
I thought they would of gone the route of Alien. Have first be called Dragon ball then the sequel be called Dragonball Z and further be Dragonball Z 3 and so on .....
like Alien , Aliens , Alien 3
It's probably just a working title.

ps. eww he gay.
( just making fun of the fact that the guy was actually seriously when he wrote the comment about the gay actor, with no actual details to back up what a problem would be with a gay actor. )

Dude, I never said he should be cast, just that he or someone like him is the biggest expectation, at least from my POV of the early cast-line descriptions. I personally think Welling shouldn't even audition, as great a Clark Kent/Kal-El/Bizarro/etc. he is, he reallly wouldn't suit Goku. So yeah, kinda hoping he doesn't get considered to be cast for this.SSj Kaboom wrote:Sorry to disappoint Conan (or anyone else keen on the idea), but I really think Tom Welling won't and shouldn't be cast as Goku. I don't really follow Superman (though I know the basics simply through pop culture) and I can't really imagine Goku writing newspaper articles. He'd probably just sit there at the computer bored or confused as to what exactly he'd be doing.
Or he'd be sent off on assignment and just never come back. XD
You know how he attracts trouble like a magnet.

No, it's set to begin production in Fall of '08, which would probably mean a Summer '09-Spring '10 release. I posted this yesterday, but I guess no one read my postSnail wrote:http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=38244

So what? Ian McKellan is gay, and he makes a great Magneto and Gandolf. Acting means portraying someone unlike yourself (though there are exceptions) so that wouldn't be a problem.tinlunlau wrote:But Robin Shou is gay ("bisexual" is the more technical term for Robin).
But, I don't want Robin Shou for Goku anyway. I honestly can't think of anyone good for Goku - they need an unknown guy, no bigshot from Hollywood can do it right.

Of interest: The usually dependable Superhero Hype! has adapted that familiar character write-up from CHUD: http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=6368
I think that's as close as we're going to get to confirmation, aside from recent posts. Far as I've know, SHH has never posted inaccurate information before.
DAISUKI'S THOUGHTS ABOUT THE MOVIE--->
I'm intrigued by the character selection, and the story's not a problem for me. What I'm really concerned with is the scope of the story; I'd hate to see a crowded plot ruin a good concept, a la Spider-Man 3. I mean, in addition to the main plot of "Adventure Story" we also have martial arts training and a tournament somewhere along the road. The way I'm keeping score, the plot goes a little something like this:

What I'm really concerned with is the scope of the story; I'd hate to see a crowded plot ruin a good concept, a la Spider-Man 3. I mean, in addition to the main plot of "Adventure Story" we also have martial arts training and a tournament somewhere along the road. The way I'm keeping score, the plot goes a little something like this:
- 1. Lord Piccolo is released from his prison and the order goes out to his followers to target the world's top martial artists, including Son Gohan.
2. Son Goku, the protagonist, is set up as a naive but unpopular student who excels at martial arts. Chi-Chi (and probably Kuririn) are established as his best friends.
3. During a feast prepared for Goku's 18th birthday, the patron, Son Gohan, gives Goku a Dragon Ball as a gift. During the festivities, Gohan is attacked and murdered in front of Goku and his friends by Piccolo's asassins. With his dying breath, Gohan commands Goku to seek out the training of Roshi in order to prepare him to prevent Piccolo from collecting the Dragon Balls.
4. En route to meet Master Roshi, Goku meets an adventurous young woman named Bulma, who wants to collect the Dragon Balls in order to share their unlimited energy with the world. With her "Dragon Radar" (that's DBE for short ;P), the pair easily finds Roshi, who's in posession of a Dragon Ball himself.
5. Goku trains with Master Roshi, and likely learns the Kamehame-ha from him. After mastering this powerful technique, Goku bids farewell, but Roshi decides to join Goku and Bulma on their quest.
6. Continuing on their journey, Goku, Bulma, and Roshi encounter Yamucha, the desert bandit. At first Yamucha antagonizes the Dragon Team, but has a change of heart when he hears Master Roshi's story of Lord Piccolo. He decides to join them instead, supplying them with no shortage of transportation and weaponry.
7. Somewhere along the line, Goku takes part in a fighting tournament where he is reunited with Chi-Chi (and Kuririn, if he exists). They become attracted to one another for the first time.
8. At some point, Goku and company's Dragon Balls are stolen by Piccolo's men (or maybe just Mai).
9. THE FINAL BATTLE: Mai, using her shape-shifting abilities, masquerades as Chi-chi but is revealed as an enemy before it is too late. While the others fight Mai, Goku and Roshi take on Lord Piccolo himself, with very limited success. Finally, Roshi gives his life to use the Mafuba, the technique that originally sealed Piccolo 2,000 years ago, but Mai leaps in the way of the wave and is imprisoned in Lord Piccolo's stead.
10. Piccolo reveals to Goku that the younger man is an alien (much to everyone's shock), a member of a race of violent warriors called Saiyans. He offers to spare his life if he aids him in the conquest of Earth. Goku of course declines and uses the skills he learned from Roshi to overpower the demon-king. Before his death, Piccolo likely births a perfect spawn, necessitating subsequent hunts for the Dragon Balls (to ensure sequels, no doubt..)
For yer health!

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why Live Action Goku should be Asian. Goku's not asian, he's an alien. And the story doesn't take place in China, nor in Japan, but in the Dragonworld.
Well, due to the fact that Kuririn is somehow a Shaolin Monk, it would be logical for an Asian actor to play his role. Maybe even Yamcha or Chichi. But Goku ? Or Kame Sennin ?
If a live action movie of Akira were made, and if the story remains in Japan, of course they should hire Japanese actors. The characters even look japanese in the manga. Not in Dragonball. Heck, it would even be weird if all the characters were asian.
