Korean Dragonball bootlegs: stay away!!
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
I would be suspicious of DVDs made in Korean, especially for Anime. While companies there may have the license to certian series, they dont always have the license to the material that they use. Korea's R3 Trigun box uses R2 masters, R1 english audio and subtitles when it shouldnt, their giant robo box used the R2 discs without permission, and it wouldnt suprise me if this uses Dragonbox footage without approval.
Ok, I got my Dragonball set today.
Corey, any preferences for episodes to screen cap from?
Bit rate seems to be from 4-9.97 mbps...
It's lacking previews
It does indeed have both Japanese and Korean dubs, plus Korean subs.
I'll start by making screen captures of menus (if or when I figure out of how).

What's even worse is when the audio and video quality of a Hong Kong DBZ bootleg is better than anything FUNi's ever put out. The only downside is that people who absolutely need English subtitles would be sorely disappointed...Tsukento wrote:I think it is rather sad that bootlegs look loads better than the official product.Chuquita wrote:Is it strange that I'm sad that bootlegs have nicer looking holders than Funi's widescreen boxes?
...and that they're bootlegs.

I think that's proof that FUNi can do better.Tsukento wrote:I think it is rather sad that bootlegs look loads better than the official product.Chuquita wrote:Is it strange that I'm sad that bootlegs have nicer looking holders than Funi's widescreen boxes?
But I also think people would be very happy if FUNi had just used the grainy footage they've had all along and slapped that into the new boxsets at that lovely price point instead of starting this remastered (

But I digress. Back on topic. Some of those menus look like ass. The colours on some confuse and anger me.

Well the menus look crap...but I like the idea of the first menu with the "globe" in the background (even if it looks cheap the way they did it).
Is the menu with the Buu saga group poster (I own that poster...) from a DB or a DBZ DVD?
And on the first site are that 2 or 4 boxes, because they look like they are 2 different 2 Box-sets (I know that sentence sounds wired), because design and the picture on the side of the DVDs are different so that can’t be only 2 boxes
And I want to see some screen caps from the episodes too

Tell me about it, and I thought the R4 sets looked great for a FUNi release.Tsukento wrote: I think it is rather sad that bootlegs look loads better than the official product.
Now they look ugly as hell.
*places season set next to it*
I take that back!

I couldn't agree more (I'm a huge BTAS fan) it's also the case with my Tintin complete box set, the cels are dirty, the scenes with a high cel count look like blurry scratched crap. The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote: The grainy episodes are still grainy, the dirty cells are still dirty, it's fullscreen like it should be, and all put into 30 or so episodes per set at 50 bucks or so a pop. And, dammit, I love those sets with every ounce of my BTAS loving heart.
But It's still a fantastic box set (It could use a French language track though) :
Ok, since you guys absolutely wanted...
Like I said: discs 1-10 seem to be a direct rip of the Dragonboxes, with previews cut out.
Disc 11-26, are however, dreadful.
Video quality itself is "fine" (probably a very good TV rip), but, the bitrate absolutely is not.
What's done, is that they slam 6x2 eps on a DVD; they don't put dual audio tracks, but rather one that is Korean dub only, and the other Korean hardsub only... While on the first 10 discs, there were softsubs with dub/original like normal dvds...
Beware the screencaptures.
General quality of discs 1-10

General quality of discs 11+
