Trunks' Tail???

Post by SuperVegito17 » Tue Oct 16, 2007 12:09 pm

Well, I had a confusion over this for some time now. Was Trunks born with or without a tail? because, as a baby we saw trunks never had a tail. And even if his tail was cut off it would leave a mark, atleast till he grows up, but when we saw his butt in Broly second coming, he never had a mark. Is it safe to assume that he never grew a tail, cuz that IS possible , rite?

Movie, not necessarily (I hate that word) a reliable source.

Well, it does seem Trunks and probably Goten were born without tails. It's probably just one of those things you shouldn't question too much because the actual logic behind it is likely that Mr Toriyama simply forgot.

Pretty sure I read an interview somewhere, where Toriyama said he just forgot.

Yeah that's what I'd say too. I'd imagine that at first what a Saiyajin was to him was this strange creature with a monkey tail that turns into an Oozaru at a full moon but later Saiyajin became super heroes that can go all golden haired and deadly. He'd drifted away from the more mystical side of it all (away from "Goku the Monkey King") and into the more familiar beam-spamming, transformation based world of DBZ. As a result a lot of the older stuff seemed to get forgotten about (kintoun, nyubo and other things I don't know how to spell).

Nimbus didn't get forgotten, the characters can just fly faster than it can. And the Power Pole was left connecting the Lookout to Korin's tower.

Agreed. To me, either that or just him saying, "Eh, screw it. They can think up of some BS excuse."

Well, but it is, of course, a fact that the transition of DB to DBZ the mystical part is almost totally forgotten and the inhuman fights were much more used.

In the BR version (Must problably on the JAP too) off the manga, Kuririn asks Bulma about Trunks' tail, but he doesn't receive a answer.

I'm pretty sure Toriyama said tails on half-borns was a recessive trait.

They could have just brought Trunks and Goten up to Kami's place and have Dende remove there tails just to avoid all the crap they would have to go through during full moons. It was a time of peace n’ all so who needs two big monkey’s rampaging around? Not to mention Chi Chi and Bulma would like there children to look as normal as possible so I don't think it's a totally far out theory.

Edit: For those who forgot Kami removed Goku's tail after the King Piccolo fight, so it is possible to do.

Ok let me rephrase that for you: they got written out of the story and then forgotten about. As far as I understand it they were both elements taken from Journey to the West and Dragonball dropped more and more of the Journey to the West influences as it went along. Besides, it's perfectly normal for a shounen to either introduce more characters than it has a role for (like Chaotzu and Tenshinhan, for example) or to just subtly sweep things that used to be really significant under the carpet. DBZ did it, Bleach does it and Naruto does it.

Back to kintoun; you say that characters could simply fly faster than it - that's very true but that doesn't fully explain why Goku's one time companion just vanished into thin air (possibly literally). It seems Toriyama also thought that since he brought it back at the end of DB for Uub to ride on (even though he could fly way faster than it.)

I disagree, Nimbus appears about any time it's able to. Goku uses it to get to the Saiyan battle, and again to get to Dr. Brief's after he heals. Then everybody's in space/on Namek and can't use it. Then Goku's either using Instant Transmission, is laid up with heart disease, is in the time chamber or at the Cell Games. Then we see it again as Gohan uses it to ride to school.

Don't forget Gohan giving Kinto'un to Goten and the Kanzenban ending.

It's been said before that recessive tails genetically doesn't make sense (but... it's dragonball).
I think I thought of one of those BS explanations... but it's not so clear right now. I think it was that halfbreeds grow tails later (Maybe there's some gene there, and they only get one instead o two since the Human equivalent woulddo something different entirely)... so basically Gohan, Goten and Trunks should grow tails after birth, but Bulma found a ay to halt their growt before they had to be remved, and told ChiChi about it? That way they're sorta kinda recessive, but we don't kill genetics...? Ok, maybe not.

Toriyama actually simply stated that he forgot to add them. Regardless, Toriyama could probably get away with stating that they were born with them considering that we don't actually see them born, and baby Trunks is roughly between 3 and 6 months old when he's introduced in the series

Not to gross anyone out, but Toriyama could humorously call it "Saiyan Circumcision": you're born with it, but its removed promptly after birth. :D

I think the missing tails is something Toriyama just wanted to leave unanswered and up to speculation because he clearly didn't forget and had a chance to provide an answer. When Kuririn met Trunks just before 19 and 20 appeared, he asked about his tail, but no answer was given.

Well, don't forget. At the time, Earth had no moon. Unless Kami restored it. Again.

I don't recall seeing this! Is there an image of it anywhere?
