Would a new series of Dragonball be accepted?
Seen have seen a lot of recent Dragonball animated segments such as the intros from the Budokai series and the Nippon (Can't remember all of it's name) animation. Would everyone be happy if a new series would be made, I have thought about this and came to one conclusion. If a new series created the fandom would become divided in my opinion.
There would be one side that would be original purists, which means that they would disown the new series and only stay true to the first series. Much like Transformer generation 1 fans were to the new movie that came out recently.
The other side would accept the series, seeing as an evolution and continuation of such a strong and lovable series. This group would also draw in new fans.
So if a new series were to be made where would you stand as a Dragonball fan? Do you think the fandom be split or just grow stronger?

I'm all for a new series. I think Toei does a good job on their shows (One Piece <3 ) and they can definitely pull off a new DB series.
Seriously, I'm hurting for some new animation.
My dream series would take place between those ten years after Buu and before Uub.
All they gotta do is come up with some awesome new super-villain and they're set.
I mean, if they have it take place there, not only will we avoid terrible character design alterations, but everyone would still be in fighting shape.
The only, ONLY reason I think they haven't done a new series is because its cheaper to just re-market the current ones.

I would be all for it if it was a canon series. Dragon Ball isn't the same without the Toriyama imagination driving the story. The lack of this imagination resulted in the flop that was GT.
But also we have to notice that any continuation of the flop that was GT will be doomed to join "The Hall of Flops" itself. The issue with GT is that it focused too much on the fighting (if even possible), and not nearly enough on the characters and the story.
The story and characters is what made Dragon Ball (and DBZ) worth reading/watching over numerous other fighting series. The lack of this development what made GT so boring; so it was like an under-developed version of Z, that sickeningly lacked consistency with the previous series, story development, and character depth.

I'm all for something new for the DragonBall series. Though taking in mind that Toriyama doesn't really seem to take any interest in the series anymore, I doubt that we'll end up with some kind of new story with the DB characters that came straight from the man himself. If a new DB series were to be in the works, I'd guess that Toriyama would have very little direct involvement with it.
But taking that whole idea of a new series influencing the old series' fans, I'm sure it would be very much like all of the spinoffs/remakes of cartoons today (Batman, Scooby-Doo...) in that there'll be some older fans who are too used to the old series to even accept a new one, casual fans who don't really care either way, and new fans who could eventually end up in either of the other two categories.
A new series for DB would definitely, at least, renew the fandom to some degree, similar to what movies have been doing with older shows, which is actually one reason for why I'm pro-DB movie (but that's for that other topic...).
... because there isn't any division among fans already, right?JAKEMAN wrote:I have thought about this and came to one conclusion. If a new series created the fandom would become divided in my opinion.

I just think a new series is absolutely unnecessary.
And, IMHO, making anything new would take a little something away from GT's ending. Namely due to the solemn statement "this is the end of the story of the Dragon Balls" followed by the big THE END screen.
So I guess you could say I'm against anything new.

I think it's almost impossible of it happening... But after seeing Street Fighter IV being announced, maybe there is a low chance.
I would only work for me if it were:
1) A Story of Trunk's Alternative Future, and if the name could be DBAF (Ah, c'mom, would be the greatest thing EVER =b)
2) A decent history pos-DBZ. Saying that GT is just an alternate history and making a more interisting one.
3) A total remake of the series without hard story changes.

I think a story about Trunk's Alternate time line would be cool. The concept of finding new strong people to form a new Z senshi would be interesting.
Also, how about a story about another Saiya-Jin who landed on some other planet, and had no communication with freeza, who ended up living on another planet, similar to the Goku situation. And how he learned to be good, and he had to fight his own villains and what not.

So no, unless Toriyama is doing the writing, I really doubt it would be very good.
Admittedly, I have not seen all of One Piece, (I've watched/read chunks of it here and there) but I get where your going; Toei could possibly mess it up with filler...but then I think it all depends on who's doing the writing.

I'd rather it be about the characters we already know. I don't think I'd be able to watch a DB series without any of the current cast in it.

I'd like to see a side series like more about the life of Master Roshi, the Kais, or Future Trunks' world, things like that. I wouldn't mind if they went ahead and reanimated the old series or even did something new...as long as it was better than GT. It'd also be nice if Toriyama was involved, but I don't really see that happening.

I think Toei should recognize Dragonball GT as the Batman and Robin of the series. I think if anything new should be done, it should not consider GT as part of its universe. What I want to see is another feature film that is actually FEATURE FILM LENGTH and is set somewhere in the time period of Z or maybe just doesn't fit at all. It just doesn't matter where it fits in chronologically as long as it's compelling and done with care. The last thing I want to see is more of Goku Jr. and such. If we get a DragonBall movie, let's have some real DragonBall characters. Just one more Genki-Dama finale is what I long for...
P.S. Wouldn't it be a huge financial success for Toei to actually create DragonBall AF? It has been rumored for over 10 years, it probably has the single greatest marketing campaign in all of anime: Myth. Can you imagine a one week special: DragonBall AF "...It's not april folks..."

well many of you did say something about a alternativ future story...i dont think thats a good idea...at the end we will get a anime to Shin budokai another road.....
to be honest... i think a new anime is a bad idea...too much they can mess up....but a new movie/OVA that would be a cool idea, and maybe akira toriyama could do the skript....
if i think about lupin the 3th, this show is a way older than DB and still every year there is a release of a new movie/TV special
ok i dont know about the quality of the anime, it was befor my time, but the new movies are not so bad
