It was too old for US culture in 96. They would've left it in if it were the 80s or early 90s. I'm thinking they left it in DB because they were trying to go for a nostalgic feel with it. The DB dub just screams 86-89.

I also think they mave have felt "Cha-La" wasn't actiony enough. Back then, they treated anime not to be different from American cartoons. And since American action cartoons usually have actiony theme songs, they may have wanted something more actiony.

Didn't watch GT a lot, but will say the final spirit bomb against Omega Shenron needed "Ginyu Transformation" in my view.

lol Um well GT was completely ruined. Their music was lame, it's almost like they had only one music track...really, throughout the whole series, I could almost swear that I keep hearing the same exact track. Sounds the same, just you know how in a song some parts are fast, then they slow down in the same song? Well that's how it felt. I mean there was no fast-paced action theme like in Z, all they had was slow-paced...weird noises with snapping fingers in the background. The beat to the opener and closing was kind of catchy, but it needed a heavier instrument than the one that they used. And they had a rap for the opening. Okay...fine, fine, I can understand, they realized that rap was popular among the age group they were targeting, that's fine...but did the rapper really have to sound so horrible?

No. I just saying that you sound like the original BGM is going to appeal only the the Japanese audience when it's already been proven to be a hit with people who aren't of Japanese origin from around the world. And with people who have never even set foot or know anything about Japan and it's culture/styles etc...

Oh yeah I realize that's what you where saying but it was just the whole. "I'm not Japanese so I can't like this music" talk you said earlier that sorta set me off since, that's not true at all.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

That is not what I meant, and if I came off as offensive, I apologize. I meant that the reason I don't like it is because I'm not used to that type of music. I like all types of music, I like rap, I like rock, I like techno, but I don't like the Japanese version of DBZ. Look, I own Cowboy Bebop on DVD and I happen to think that the music for that show is very, very brilliant, especially the ending theme (Real Folk Blues), hands down, one of my favorite themes ever. HOWEVER, in my eyes, to me, there is a difference to an up-to-date-sounding song with Japanese voice talent, as opposed to old-school Japanese themes. Especially because there is no voice work, only music for the actual show. In my opinion, Cha-La-Head-Cha-La has it's certain appeal, but I personally cannot sit through this happy-go-lucky, "it's a magical wonderful world" theme song, and then literally 10 seconds later be absorbed into an action fighting world.
