Well, he's really just Vegeta with a beard, so there's not much to his design, anyway.

Now, the real question here is, why is it that King Vegeta looks fine with his goatee, yet Vegeta looks so awful when you slap a mustache on him?

King Vegeta's facial hair was more full and manly?

I believe he designed the face and hair, but the outfit and everything else was done by the anime staff.

Because Vegeta had that ridiculous-looking cropped mess of a haircut when he had the mustache (just like the funimation remasters...you're only getting 80%!).

He (Gohan) is weaker. He has the fighting spirit of a wet noodle soaked in water until it barely resembles a noodle. A pebble is tougher than Gohan, because you could conceivably trip on a rock and stub your toe, while Gohan would yield like so much melted pudding. Vanilla pudding. Because he's too pansy-ass to have a strong flavor if he was pudding. Pure water has more flavor than hypothetical Gohan-pudding.

Also because it was the king's original look, whereas for Vegeta it was a change, and one that deviated too far from the original, at that.

But we're getting some extra added to the sides/face!

Would Vegeta look good with a small, spiky beard?

I think the reason why the good King looks better with a beard than his son is because he has a kingly appearence (duh), while Vegeta didn't grow a beard until DBGT, when he didn't wear Saiyan armor anymore and thus lost all traces of a Saiyan Royal appearance.

Or, alternatively, maybe beards just don't suit the Prince of all Saiyans very well at all.

To be honest, I really liked Vegeta's tache'.... did I getcha'? No it was terrible, one of the worst things ever along with his new hairstyle and biker get up.

King Vegeta still had his saiya-jin hair style that looked like Vegeta's, he still had his armour, which again looked similar to Vegeta's and was about the same height, as Vegeta. I think they give him the facial hair to distinguish him being older then Vegeta, and with his similar looks it made it obvious that it was his father. I loved King Vegeta's cape.

Oh and Vejita 20XX, though I love your signature and what you've wrote with it, you are not all pictures in your signature, they are only allowed to be four lines of text. Your avatar's a little off too, only 80*80 pixels I'm afraid. Hehe you must have noticed you stood out more then everybody else =P.

Maybe its to make the pair look like the whole 'like father like soon' in looks. Or it could be that no one could be arsed making the king look different so they slapped on a beard, slightly changed the armour a bit and added a cape XD.

The beard represents ... urm... age and wisdom and stuff? Whereas the lack of it is... umm... more restless? So they define character things? :?

It seems most of the saiya-jins shaved their facial hair.. i find it unusual for a warrior race to be concerned about appearance. or maybe some cultural thing we don't know about.

It's really annoying to get food particles in one's beard, though.

Maybe he should have gone with a soul spot, then...

I'll try not to think of GT and Vegeta's mustache :/
I read about him on Earth, on Namek, on Earth again... and never saw anything that could resemble a beard anytime - so leaving out GT - did he even have a beard like his father in general?

As for hair and saiyan "design" (as a race) anyway:
How exactly does saiyan hair behave?
I always thought, it just wouldn't change from the day of birth - so basically, if someone cuts it (partly) off, it grows back to it's original form?
I mean, Goku got parts of his hair cut by several people and it always grew back (or did Toriyama just forget about it after a while?)...
Or is saiyan hair simply put on them at birth and never grows an inch even if cut off?

How does it work exactly?
