Noooooo! For F's sake we don't need a sixth character that look exactly like Goku as it is also voiced by Masako Nozawa, that would be just terrible.

I really wouldn't be surprised at all if Bardock was in it.

They've brought back pretty much everyone else and Bardock is hugely popular (no idea why though) so I could see him being in it.

A movie about the Saiyans origins?! :wtf:

While I'm all for lore the Saiyans are the aspect of this franchise that needs least exploring. My excitement is lukewarm. This is one of these things that really depends on the execution, the premise is wide and far-reaching.

I would be shocked if Goku is absent from the movie. I predict the events while occur in a visit to Sadala with a serious of flashbacks, Goku fights the King of Sadala at the end.

I wasn't expecting anything but could be the frat under the DBS label? There were four films within the DB banner and fifteen under DBZ.

Its good to see an origin story of how the Saiyans came along that predates episode 66 of Z from 1990 along with some GT episodes.

Good thing 20th Century Fox/Walt Disney can produce it despite the recent announcement. I wonder FUNimation/Sony will dub and distribute it in 2019?

Or simply focus on Bardock if we really need to have a Goku figure on-screen. Toriyama said we would only see him in past stories, this is a past story, there's no excuse for Bardock not appearing.
Bardock should have absolutely no connection with Yamoshi unless they canonize EoB and somehow have him time travel yet again. Or pull some BS about him changing his name to Yamoshi or whatever.
They are not canonizing Episode of Barduck because Toriyama didn’t write it and it’s clear that the story is a what-if. I know what you said but it’s not a possibility.

I don't see this movie tying into DBS the anime in a major way.

Thus, no visit to Universe 6's Planet Sadala. That's something the series needs to get to itself, which means bringing back Universe 6 somehow.

I find the idea of exploring Saiyan Origins to be unnecessary, even for Universe 6's Saiyans.

It would have been much better for them to do a movie exploring Sadal and their inhabitants after the Tournament of Power, assuming they are brought back to life.
DRAGON BALL IS THE KING OF (Fighting) ANIME!!!!!!! In my opinion, at least...

My reaction to anything about Dragon Ball post-2013 that I don't like and/or is stupid. :P

The difference is that Beerus and Whis aren't protagonists, they're people who complement Goku. They wouldn't be able to hold a movie on their own, it's their interactions with our main cast that did that.

Even the Bardock and Trunks specials were about Goku in the end even if he wasn't directly present, I highly doubt this movie will be any different, there's no way Toei would leave Goku out of it.
Agree to disagree, and that's fine about leaving Goku out, I never said they would.

I don't even expect for Goku to be as minor as those specials, especially Trunks, Goku was barely in that, but then it wasn't his story.
All of those stories were leading to Goku's story, though. Even Trunks'. It's basically the story of how terrible the world would be without Goku.

You could argue even more so that the origins of the Saiyans will lead to Goku. I actually don't see how it couldn't even with him not in the focus.

However those were merely TV specials whereas this is a theatrical release. It would be a financial disaster for Toei if it failed, I doubt they'll risk giving Goku a minor role.

However I could see them establishing a parallel to Goku very early on even if he isn't personally in the movie. Maybe Yamoshi sees a vision of him like Beerus and Bardock did.

However, the fact remains that Goku will be important to the story because in the end that's who people care about, nobody would come out to see a movie about Tenshinhan's origins.

I'm almost scared to see what this brings. I feel like there has been this push lately for unnecessary changes to the story -- whether it be just to purposely screw with "canon," completely drive the point home that GT isn't "real," or to appease people. I feel like we're about to say goodbye to the Tsufruians and imagine some sort of story where the Saiyans were a peaceful race until Freeza enslaved them and forced them to work for him. Until, of course, the valiant, kind-hearted, loving family man Bardock defies him.

I love it when new DB movies come out. They feel special. I hope that Funimation snags them as quickly as they did with Battle of Gods and Resurrection of "F."

Because he has to fight someone in the movie and unless they introduce some sort of villain, the King of Universe 6 Saiyans seems like the best candidate.

Nope, the King has to fight with Vegeta since Cabba build up their encounter.

Vegeta's not the main character. Mr.Toriyama didn't even let him finish Freeza and he was already getting the scrapes of that fight. Just a wild prediction anyway.

I wasn't really talking about fan theories with that comment. I meant him ignoring the work of others in the Dragon Ball property and delivering a conflicting story.

Toriyama himself never really delved into Saiyan backstory and I don't see why he should care about what Toei or whoever put out.

The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

He never cared about contradicting Toei before, his version of hell is completely different from theirs for instance.

He's done it multiple times already as it seems like he just reads his original manga before writing new stories so chances are the same thing will happen here. I think him going against previously exclusive anime content is a given so the real question is, will it be better ? I think that's what fans care about most.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
