Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Most of arcs in OG DB were tournament arcs,so you can't wave them off.Not to mention the focus tenshinhan and roshi got in king piccolo saga.I would have appreciated the non goku focus in dbz much more if everyone was not waiting for goku and gohan was not meant to be the MC.Dragon ball does have a character usage problem as a whole, not just OG DB.Michsi wrote:You can't have only Goku all the time, not even in OG DB. You still have moments like Roshi vs. King Piccolo or Tenshinhan vs. Tao Pai Pai, but there is a clear difference between the focus the side characters in got DB compared to Z. Most of the side character moments in DB were during the TB arcs and that had more to do with the format of the tournament. Z had narrative driven arcs in which the side-characters were practically given the leading role for a long periods of time.Hawk9211 wrote: No,og db was not completely about goku. It's true the story revolved around him but the same was true for dbz.Side characters got ample screen time and development.Sometimes, even non important characters like nam and giran.
There will always be fans complaining about one thing or another, but that wasn't my point. I'm talking about that there is a difference between how the side-character were handled in the earlier part of the story and then later.Totamo wrote: Nope. During the red ribbon saga, Toriyama was asked numerous times why he only focused on Goku. Fans complained about it back then as well. Z also got those same complaints as well with the waiting for Goku syndrome. We all know how many feel about GT. Super was called the Goku and Vegeta show up until now.
The point is: This has always been a thing and its not changing now.
Also no, Z is not what people love the most as many fans will tell you ball was better.
Also yes, Z is clearly the favorite. Most people might have a special fondness for OG DB on this site, but if we were to make a large scale poll about which one was liked more, I'm convinced Z would come out on top. There is a reason DBZ is considered a global success , and DB is not.
Now,about comparison of OG DB and dbz, there are several things to be considered.Dragon ball was at the height of its popularity during dbz and there were few mistakes in localization of OG DB.So yes,dbz would easily win the poll because most people would not even have watched OG DB.
However,if we check the reception of series.2/3 major arcs of dbz aka cell saga and buu saga are widely critised compared to OG DB where only the red ribbon army is criticized(due to a slow start). If you want I can list all the criticisms of both arcs.

What fans mean by "canon" is the stories written by Toriyama and take place within them. Z's 13 movies as far as we know didn't happen and Super is clearly not taking GT into account. It doesn't make sense to use the Broly movie as an example of Vegeta being a jobber when we're talking about a Toriyama story as he doesn't take them into account nor has he ever written Vegeta to look that bad.Cetra wrote:You did not offend me. Jump previews are often wrong or weirdly written, I wouldn't read too much into this new preview.TheSaiyanGod wrote:In fact, the title of EP 123 also has '' Goku and Vegeta '', which means that the two will fight.
I do not understand why the focus on '' Goku turns into SSB '', whereas in the synopsis of EP 124 it is said that Goku and Vegeta were facing Jiren (probably referring to the previous EP).

Because in relation to the title, it has already been revealed in another magazine I think.
But it is strange that this synopsis focuses entirely on the fact that Goku challenges Jiren, after all, according to the other synopses (and according to the title itself), he and Vegeta will fight together

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yesterday's synopsis on EP 123 looked like a recap of EP 122 (Vegeta uses his maximum power and confronts Jiren). While the EP 124 synopsis seemed like a recap of EP 123 (Goku and Vegeta face Jiren but can barely hit him), which even makes sense after the 123 title has "Goku and Vegeta" at the end.HeroR wrote:We had synopsis before that were different, but they were talking about the same thing, just different aspects.TheSaiyanGod wrote:

But, the WSJ synopsis said that Goku is fully recovered (probably because Vegeta confronted Jiren in his place), and now he's going to challenge Jiren.
This is strange considering that the synopsis of yesterday had already "confirmed" that the two will fight together, while the WSJ synopsis hinted that Goku would face Jiren alone

I think when they lied about the Freeza thing, it sold the deal for me. Plus it seemed like Gohan would job against the robots but he put up a decent fight.Lord Beerus wrote:I'm going to take the smart option and not invest anything into what varying "spoilers" are implying may or may not happen and just watch the episode and make a judgement from that.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
That some times happen too. When the events of the previous episode blends into the next. I actually thought that was the case wen 123 and 124 read practically the same.TheSaiyanGod wrote:

Goku will probably fight alone after first while Vegeta rest and then Vegeta jumped in at the halfway point. That is my personal guess.

Episode previews always have some kind of misleading bullshit in them. Remember when Kirllin was disqualified for killing an opponent? Or how Caulfila was going to attain Super Saiyan Blue? Or how Piccolo was going to get eliminated by slipping of the stage?kinisking wrote:I think when they lied about the Freeza thing, it sold the deal for me. The summery never claimed that. That was fans jumping to conclusions since Cali asked about Blue. It didn't even say Goku would teach her. It isn't always. It does happens enough so take spoiler with a grain of salt, but it isn't all the time.Lord Beerus wrote:Episode previews always have some kind of misleading bullshit in them. So Herms thinks he's right on this. Of course, the summaries themselves could be filled with lies.
