To be blunt, I love that. It gives the illusion of impact, the feeling that the fist/kick found a solid obstacle that paused its momentum. It's not realistic, but it gives me that satisfying sense that my character is hitting something solid.

Its absense bothers me in 3D fighters like Tekken, Soul Calibur and the later MK games.

2D and most 2.5D fighters (street fighter, Killer Instinct, old DBZ games) have that.

I checked the entirety of old 2D and 2.5D DB games, and beside FighterZ, only one or two had this feature, and even at those it wasn't this much.

The problem with FighterZ's is that it's so emphasized to the point the characters freeze for what you'd call a big amount of time considering the fast pace of an average DB game battle. This causes the game to lack fluidity too much for my liking. But it all boils down to preference anyway so

Yep, it is all preference and getting used to it, basically. Many 2D fighters have this feature, and I wouldn't even noticed it, if you wouldn't point this out. Games like Samurai Shodown even have a longer freeze-time then FighterZ.
But I guess it's also a thing in the anime, they use it many times, to make a bigger hits more dramatic.

To me, those "pauses" make the hits feel like Toriyama manga panels that portray a sense of impact satisfyingly well. Which is super friggin' awesome in my opinion.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

Hmm ... I think you're right.
Butoden 2 and 3 had that in spades (especially Butoden 3).
Almost all main Street Fighter games had that.
Killer Instinct has that.
Guilty Gear games have that.
Extreme Butouden has it also I think.

So basically, most ArcSys games, Capcom fighters with 2/2.5D gameplay and Killer Instinct.
And Butoden games (except the original one).
But yeah, most DB fighters don't seem to have the freeza-frame-for-impact feature.

Of course FighterZ has an advantage over Xenoverse with the usually fixed 2D view, and thus they were able to adjust the shading on the 3D models by hand for each frame.
But even considerint that, I don't understand why they went with this semi-celshaded plastic toy look for XV. I mean, look at this:
Image
Super DBZ from the PS2 era. A low budget game on a much inferior hardware, and even this looks somewhat more appealing then XV's graphic style.

Thinking about all the recent rumors...
If Eurogamer's "two more characters" is true, and it's backed by Bandai's "there will be a big announcement in january before the game's release", and considering how Android 21 is kind of already been announced, and how Normal Goku/Vegeta were really popular on a japanese poll, how would you react if those two would be announced by Bandai?
While, I'm not a huge fan of having another versions of them, they had a ton of attacks back then that the SSJ/SSB version didn't inherited in the game, and it actually would make me feel much better, then of those two were taking slots from the 8 DLC chars.

Maybe the big announcement is a couple of DLC characters down the line? Broly and Jiren, or something.

A lot of people yesterday seem to have discovered that Goku looks like Vegetto.

The silhouette is 100% identical to ARC's SSB Goku character profile.

I think Bandai did a poll for japanese players, asking for which characters would they like most for FighterZ. I don't know where I saw it, but apparently Shoryuken.com also mentoined it recently in a news post.
Anyway, Normal Goku and Normal Vegeta got the most votes from the japanese fanbase.

If you're speaking about the same Shoryuken article I think you're talking about then those should be taken with a huge grain of salt. The same leaker who they source has gotten things wrong, has gone back to his original reddit post and edited to make it more accurate as more info has come out. He mentions that base Goku and Vegeta are considered because of a Japanese popularity poll. No one has any source for this supposed poll, the only one I can find is this which has Bardock as number one and various characters which are already in the game.

Basically, let's try to be as skeptical as possible.

That leaker got a few things wrong, like the SFV roster, but at the same hand he predicted some unpredictable things like the TMNT's inclusion, so who knows...
I think I remember the poll stuff from some other source, which of course still doesn't mean that ArcSys will include them.
However they are two characters they don't have to build from the ground up (meaning they can be done in a shorter time-span, and with much less cost), and most of their moves from that era are not in the game yet. People also liked them in Extreme Butoden.
So I think a strong chance is still there, even if it turns out not happening.
The other thing is the number of the DLC characters. Most of the current gen fighters go with 6 characters per season, while DBFZ will have 8. Most popular DBZ games outsold the most popular fighting game frenchise (Mortal Kombat) by far, so it could just mean, they can afford to create more new characters.
Or they can add more, because the normal versions are the easy way for that.
This is all just guessing on my part of course, there's no reasons for taking it as a fact, but I think there are more things pointing toward them then just that quiestionable leak, if nothing else, it's just a possibility there are good chances for happening.

I do not understand how Paragus is ahead of Piccolo in that poll.

According to that poll for the DLC we will be getting (excluding characters that are already in):
1. Bardock
2. Brolly
3. Paragus
4. Kale
5. Vegetto
6. Jiren
7. Turles
8. Kefla

I don't know what to say

Chichi, Colonel Violet and Hop (the catgirl I even forget about that she existed) are all more popular then Cooler.
Dodoria and Puar are more popular then Gotenks.

I wonder if Paragus is turned into some kind of meme in Japan, or some people hijacked the voting for fun.
