Metalwario64 wrote:I finally bought the rest of Kai on DVD, and while The Final Chapters definitely has issues (why was the Hell scene kept?), I really loved the way it handled the Vegetto stuff. It was taken down to two episodes, and the base Vegetto was intact, but reduced to half of an episode. All of the Dende and Mr. Satan cutaways were removed, as well as the Enma scenes, and only a handful of Kaioshin scenes were included. It makes for two really action packed episodes.
The Vegetto stuff was still way too much of a drag for me to be honest, why they kept Base Vegetto is beyond me, it is pointless as a viewer watching such a one sided fight and in fact it makes things even worse because it makes Vegetto's superiority feel even more and as viewer I am less interested in the rest of the arc now since Vegetto should killed him, his mission was to save the others so he wasn't gonna make the kill okay whatever but then Toriyama made the fight short and sweet in the Manga because of that, the anime was just too lumbering, even in TFC.
Because the base Vegetto stuff was ingrained into the footage like Gregory. To not have included at least some of it in there before he transforms into Super Saiyan would've caused continuity errors with the fact that he was first on the ground when he fused, then suddenly in the air when he transformed. They would've had to animate new shots to make it like the manga, which I don't think Toei was willing to do.
Juxtapose that to the "inside Majin Buu" scene, which was heavily cut down from when they arrived inside of him, to defusing, to getting to his brain. It was the only part of Chris Stuckmann's review I actually agree with when he, essentially, said it was stupid. Plus, no continuity errors from the scenes that they cut out. Same with the Dende & Mr. Satan shots. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out those were filler-only, as well as Buu getting indigestion from Goku & Vegeta traveling through his body.
The Hell scenes on the other hand should have been cut, though, since not only do they slow the pace of the arc down, as well as being so short that they could be cut without any problems whatsoever because they're so disconnected as a result of being filler that wasn't in the manga, they cause continuity errors not only with Super & Resurrection F, but also in the series itself because they completely cut out the stupid Hell filler from Z in the first arc. It causes discontinuities not only for showing Hell, which is completely different in Super, but also the fact that they kept the line about Goku falling off of Snake Way...and the dubbing team didn't think to redo the line to Goku flying over Snake Way or something to correct this discontinuity.
Baggie_Saiyan wrote:The same with the Majin Vegeta vs Goku fight, with Goku having SS3 that fight just seems super pointless in hindsight and Toriyama wisely chose to not concentrate on it much because it would just be a waste time there were far more interesting things going on with Gohan, Shin, Babidi and Dabura than watching Goku being a twat and holding back in his super mega fight with Vegeta. Watching Buu Kai every time they cut back to the Majin Vegeta I honestly was rolling my eyes thinking to myself is this really not done yet? Please get back to the other stuff. It was just a plot point to get Buu revived that was it.

Kai was such a missed opportunity to get a proper manga version of Z re-animated from scratch and now we aren't ever gonna get that chance again.
Never say never. The problem is Toei just not putting in as much effort. Considering that the show apparently didn't perform to Toei, or Fuji TV's expectations in the merch sales department, I'd say it's a miracle we even got TFC in the first place after they saw how well the series has done overseas. I'm glad we got it even as-is.
And here's the thing about the Goku VS Majin Vegeta fight. Do you really think Toriyama even paid that much attention to his own story by the Buu Saga? Hell, he wasn't opposed to retcons & asspulls before that saga, so it shouldn't surprise you that the Buu Saga's where most of it hit the fan. Before the debut of SS3, Goku said he was at full power at SS2. Hell, Toriyama honestly thought that he'd be creating SS2 instead of 3 at the time because he forgot he introduced 2 already. It's probably why he's since simplified later Super Saiyan transformations just to alternate colors, but with the same base hairstyles; Super Saiyan God just applying a red dye job, different irises & a slimmer physique & Super Saiyan Blue having regular Super Saiyan hair, only died blue, since the only differences for Goku, Vegeta, & Future Trunks between SS1 & 2 were so negligible, you wouldn't even notice if you weren't looking for it, & SS3 is just longer hair with no eyebrows, but a Neanderthal browline for some reason. He actively admits to making shit up as he went along, especially in that last arc, since he was allowed to go all out after so much of the Z we all know.
I bring this up because he didn't actively make fights shorter because stuff would look different in hindsight. Maybe that Buu fight with Vegetto, but not Goku VS Majin Vegeta. I have a feeling it was more so to bring Vegeta's arc full circle, since he was the last main character with one unresolved by that point, especially with Vegeta's sacrifice. After that, he really cut loose because that's where the arc went full balls-to-the-wall nuts. He introduced SS3, which was a big ass asspull, he introduced 2 types of fusion, he introduced Majin Buu's absorptions & transformations, & other things. A lot of things Toriyama did as well were against what fans wanted as well & I have a feeling that the Goku VS Majin Vegeta fight was part of that, hence why Toei animated it originally. I'm not saying your interpretation of it isn't something illogical, I'm just saying that I don't think you have all the facts behind them.

Hey, everyone. Just thought I should note this. In the 6th Kingdom Hearts 1 stream, from back in August 2016, on TFS Gaming, Lanipator noted he has himself credited under "Barry Allen" when not using his online uername (or his real one, I think). Knowing this, it now makes sense why the 3 TFS members, Lani, Masako, & Taka, were credited as the names of the 3 Flashes in this dub before being taken out unceremoniously.

Well, the Toonami broadcast finally to where Evil Buu shows up.
I do not think the Super Buu episodes will get very far before the end of the year.
Good news is Kai will wrap up in 2018, if all goes well.

Kai: The Final Chapters won't even be released in the UK, because according to Manga UK, Kai 1.0 (Episode 1 - 98) sold so poorly in the UK that they won't be bother with Kai: The Final Chapters.

From the clips I've seen, Kyle Hebert has improved a lot as Gohan. Sounds much better than in Z.

Even though I'm perfectly fine with Hebert as Gohan, part of me will always think a Brad Swalie quality to his voice would be abit better. Same with Yamcha having a Ted Cole quality.

Did we ever fully confirm who voiced Kid Trunks? Some episodes credit Laura Bailey while others credit Alexis Tipton.

I'm pretty sure we determined that Bailey played un-Fused Trunks throughout the arc while Tipton played the Trunks half of Gotenks. I may be misremembering, but I don't remember hearing Tipton as Trunks proper. Maybe she did a few pickups here and there, but I don't remember hearing any lines that gave me that impression.

Like the Xenoverse duolgy, Bailey plays Trunks, while Alexis Tipton plays his half of Gotenks' voice. You can tell through 2 things; her Trunks is slightly deeper in pitch & she has a slight lisp that Bailey doesn't have.

Bailey playing Trunks while Tipton fills in for Gotenks makes the most sense. There are lines which I can definitely tell is Laura yet the episode credits Tipton.

So I'm watching the initial Mystic Gohan episode on Toonami and wow, Sumitomo's music placement flaw severely shows during Gohan's power up to that form.

I've gotta wonder, if Tipton switches out for bailey for the trunks half of Gotenks, who was voicing him in that gag where Goten and trunks were separated but still speaking in sync

It's really not that hard to tell. Bailey's more natural-sounding as a little boy. Tipton sounds more like Tara Strong, where her little boy voice is more deeper than it should be. That voice is fine for Trunks in Super, since he's several years older, but Bailey's no doubt the better pick for the character when he's young. I kind of hope that with future iterations of the franchise that we could get Eric Vale as Trunks again by having the characters be several more years older, since GT wasn't that good & I like his Trunks voice.

The Australian release is Region B so you could import that and if Manga UK does release it themselves, it'll just be a repackage of Madman's version. It's not too likely due to the whole bad sales and all that but it's Dragon Ball so you never know.

In theory, Manga UK could also release DBZ Level 1.1 and 1.2 Blu-rays (as Madman did the region conversion job) but there really isn't a reason to. That version is sadly canned.

It's either that, or buy the American sets & get a region-free Blu-Ray player or have a region-free computer drive, since it's all the same exact content anyways.

If Manga UK repackages the Madman version as "Seasons" with only two volumes then I might get that. I've been patiently waiting for a company to do just that as I don't want to spend $30 here and $30 there for a show I didn't even really like all that much (I would've if it had the Majin Boo score by Shunsuke Kikuchi).

I did the first option as my BD drive wasn't functioning properly and there was a cheap region free BD player going around in the UK just as the first TFC BD came out for about £50/$70 I managed to luckily nag one!

So, two episodes on Toonami from Kid Buu being introduced.
I can't believe we're in the final stretch for Kai!
My only question is how are episodes 165 & 166 going to be handled?
