Ideas for music vids... Any thoughts or suggestions?

Post by Alias » Mon May 31, 2004 3:30 am

I've begun the very conceptual work on several music videos. I'm still searching for songs and appropriate footage, but I have a very good idea of what I want to do. Finding the right songs has been incredibly difficult, so any suggestions there would be helpful. Here's my ideas...

The first is a Yamucha/Bulma video. I wanted to show the start of their relationship, the highs and lows, Bulma's shift in interests to Vegeta, and Yamucha's reaction. It's never been done before, since most people seem to REALLY hate Yamucha. I wanted to do it from his point of view, but finding the right song has been extremely frustrating. -_-

I also wanted to do two companion vids, one showing Goku's side of his marriage to Chichi, and the other showing her POV. I've just finished watching the Saiya-jin saga, have gotten partway through the Nameksei saga, and I've seen a lot of rather depressing scenes. Chichi often can be really mean, controlling, and uncaring towards Goku, and he always seems rather sad about it, just looking at her but never saying a word while she leaps over his crippled body to get to Gohan, ignores him later, berates him in the hospital, etc... He rarely argues with her, no matter how much he disagrees. On her side, Goku is often really thoughtless and irresponsible concerning his family. He spent a year on Yardratto with no thought that they might miss him. He spent seven years dead, still no thought about how it would affect his family. At the very end, he left his wife and teenaged son to live with a kid he had never even met before. Definitely not Husband of the Year.

The last one I want to do is something I'll probably get tons of flames for, but I think would be really fun to make. A Vegeta and Goku... romance video. I detest yaoi pairings, but I really love making fun of them. I'm trying to find a romance song, sung by a man, with no reference to the partner being female. Not a serious song, but something more humorous and lively.:D

Any thoughts, criticisms, suggestions, etc... are really appreciated. I'm not a pro at music video making, but I do know what's good and what isn't. I have Premiere 6.0 and all other necessary software. I have a DVD player for ripping footage. My biggest problem is that my computer is very old and doesn't run well. If anyone knows of any MV software that doesn't suck up power, it would be really helpful.

First, I'll cover the last vid you metnioned. :D I want to see how that could turn out. I would suggest Always by Saliva is a decent song, but that's been used in a simillar concept already in the video With You. Speaking of which, you may get some new ideas by watch that video. I think I linked to it once before in another thread, but for convienience(sp?) you can find it here. However, that song may still work for your Yamcha/Bulma video, quite nicely in fact, now that I think of it. :D

I'm affraid there's little other help I can offer. I'll sift through my MP3's for other songs though.

Numb by Linkin Park for a video about how Mirai Gohan and Trunks want to be as strong as their fathers.

Xyex: The Always song isn't quite what I'm looking for, it's too serious and has already been done in another Goku/Vegeta video by Mersades. I'm looking for something more... ridiculous/hormonal. Perhaps about the joys of affairs. I want to make it seem like they've got a relationship going on to the side.

As for Bulma and Yamucha... The song might work there instead. I'll have to listen to it a few more times and see how well I can edit out some of the unsuitable lines.

Dayspring: That song has been used in more DBZ music videos than can ever be counted...

I'd love to see some exploration videos about some of the couples. The problem you're ABSOLUTELY going to run into, though...

Is that the footage doesn't exist. You think it does, and you think you'll be able to work around it... but it's not there ^^;;.

I wish you luck, none-the-less!!

'Tis true. I tried making a Bulma/Vegeta/Yamcha video a few years back, and there simply wasn't enough footage to warrant a full-length video. I think that idea eventually evolved into my "He's So Shy" video, due to the fact that there was not enough footage to work with.

Alias: Really? The band I know, but the lyrics for that particular song don't really match anything else other than maybe Piccolo not meeting Piccolo Daimao's expectations. Name some vids, please! I'd like to see other people's interpretations! (link too please) :P

They can't be completely not there. I've seen several of these videos listed places across the net. Never d/led any of them myself though.

Just because they MADE them doesn't mean they made them WELL :P. I'm sure they ran out of footage, too.

VegEX: Thanks! It's not so much the problem that the footage doesn't exist, it's more the problem that I don't have access to the footage I know and need. I don't own any old-DB dvds, and my fansubs are, well, subbed. The Goku/Vegeta one requires a massive amount of carefully altered clips to make it seem like they're together. I know some techniques for for doing that (somewhat), but Premiere barely even runs on my system (low-end '99 CPU). I think I'm gonna end up stuck using Magix Music Maker 2004. Which also only barely runs.

Dayspring: Go to http://www.animemusicvideos.org Go to Super Search. Put in 'Dragonball' and 'Numb.' You get precisely 41 music videos.

Xyex: The one thing you will discover, the deeper into the DBZ MV community you delve, is that 99 out of a 100 DB MVs are wretched. I've gone to my college (T4 line!) and loaded CD-Rs with music videos. Upon coming home, I'd watch them and only copy maybe a couple onto my hard drive. Most wouldn't even be bearable for the first 30 seconds. There are gems, though, and they make the digging worthwhile.

Yeah, I know. I've d/l'ed my share of crappy DBZ vids (and since I'm a digital pack rat I still have them all, some 1.5 gigs of them :? ) and even made some. (Yeah, I'm not the good at it yet.)

But the gems do make it all worth the effort!

I don't have many on my hard drive, since it's only 9 gigs. I have lots of CDs full of them, though. I've been collecting them since 2000 and I can't stand to get rid of anything that I spent time downloading. I even still have Meri's Space People and that MIB one. One sec.... Actually, I've think I've got every DBZ music video she's ever put up on her site. I've got GGG's music vids... I've got some from the old Xoom Sharehouse... I've got... ^_^

You have my MiB video!!!??? ..... can I have it? I lost the encode of it years ago and would love to have it again so I can upload it to animemusicvideos.org, even if it is a bad RealVideo file. ^^;;;

....I remember having a bunch of videos too. I use to collect DBZ videos (good or bad) from the four or eight corners of the Internet.
....But then I learned that CD-RWs are NOT a good places to store them.

I hate to sound like a mooch...but uh, do you also have the SSJ2 Gohan transformation set to Spirit Vs. Spirit? That was my favourite a long time ago, but now I can't find it anywhere ^_^'

Meri: It took a massive amount of searching through cds, but I finally found it and uploaded it. Right-click and save-as: http://www.angelfire.com/comics/avatarg ... bzmib.html

All you need to do is change the extension to .ram :D

EDIT: I just downloaded it to see if the upload worked, but the file isn't playing properly. Those picture problems weren't in it before. If your download doesn't work right either, I can upload it elsewhere.

Deus ex Machina: Which version? She made two of them and I've got both. It may take a few days to get it up though, since my computer is extremely slow and was having problems uploading DBZ MIB.

The second one I believe; if memory serves me right, the second one was better version of the first. Thanks a lot :D

I think that one's about 6 or 7 megs, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'll put it up within the next few days. ^_^

...... I'd love to have your collection of vids ..... But I need to get a CD burner and DSL yet. Dail-up is bad for D/Ling vids. And don't feel bad about your HD space, this one's only 8 gigs and mine's only 13. :?

Ferpetessake, 80 gig hard drives cost about £40 over here (less than US $60). Since stuff over here is invariably more expensive that it should be, surely it can't be that hard to pick up a decent sized hard drive? It's less than the cost of two games.
