Re: "Dragon Ball FighterZ" (PS4/XBO/PC, 2018, Arc System Works) Official Discussion Thread
Just finished the story. The Hero arc was definitely the weakest of the three, the Villain arc was filled to the brim with fan service through character interactions (which I loved), and the Android arc was definitely the best one. I like what they did with Android 21's character.
I gotta give props to the English dub. It's much better than the dubs we've seen for previous Dragon Ball games. Waaay better than Xenoverse. I also really liked Android 21's voice. Good stuff!
Now, I wanna try out the arcade mode and do some online battles. I don't think the story mode was challenging enough to test the fighting mechanics of this game. I didn't lose a single fight during the story.
I'm still trying to find what characters I want to main, but I found myself having a lot of fun playing as Freeza, Yamcha, Beerus, 18, 21 and Hit.

So this game will be getting some content updates for sure. We have two empty areas of the hub, West City and Kame House do NOTHING right now. Z Union, Raid Battle and Z League seem to potentially for these. This game seems certain to get some gradual free update content, since I highly doubt a 4th of the hub screen would be paid DLC.
Also, does anyone feel the stage select screen feels incomplete? Like there is room for two more? I echo the desire for a Room of Spirit and Time stage, especially since a silhouette of it shows up on the character select screen.

Outfit no. 1 is normal, no. 2 is an easter-egg color (Goku's first gi for example), no. 3-12 are colors shared by all characters. So yes, Black should have a pink outfit.Chuquita wrote:Is there a list of all the color swaps somewhere? I saw pink armor Nappa and now I'm wondering if I could get Rosé in a rosé dougi.
It's one of the colors that you can get from Z Capsules (no. 6-12). Not sure what is the number exactly.

Edit: I found a shot of it in one of Kirran's streams; the black and red part of the dougi stays the same and the grey top changes to pink. Good to know!
On hiatus.

So I'm guessing that Android 21 is a bio-android just like Cell, but with all the memories of Dr.Gero's former wife, and was also modeled after her. Is that right?

They definitely need to add Kami's lookout, the Time Room, and maybe Master Roshi's island and King Kai's planetNintendoBlaze53 wrote:So this game will be getting some content updates for sure. I just love the writing and banter in this game. It shouldn't be, and yet it's so amazing to have character banter in a big title that actually focuses on the characters themselves. No random self insert jokes, no political BS, no social politics, no meta references, no feminist crap of making a big deal of girl power and just having them be just like everyone else is, and no pop culture shit. Just pure, unaltered, characters. This is real love for a franchise and it's universe. Not some bullshit of everyone being self inserts for the writers or used to suck up to fans by mentioning memes or real world references. Just characters in their own world, being the characters. As well as knowing the difference between poking a little fun and being playful with the characters, rather than turn the universe into a bunch of clowns who don't believe in their world or selves.
This really should not be as special as it is, but man it's good to see proper love for a series for once. By making everything all about the characters in their exploits rather than about us or real world things. I love how our involvement in the story is not just lol random meta joke. It's explained and run with rather than just typical fourth wall humor which is repetitive.

Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Word on the grapevine is a lot of the character interaction scenes were punched up by the dub, which extends to the Japanese subtitles. For example, I think the line where Piccolo jabs at Yamcha about Bulma choosing Vegeta over him was a dub-exclusive line that got added into the subtitles. Also, pretty much everything Cell says in this game can be linked back to Dameon Clarke being in constant Handsome Jack mode.
That sort of stuff doesn't bother me too much, it's obvious the game has a tongue-in-cheek meta humour attitude going for it at the core, which the localisation is taking and running with. But I understand if that bugs people.

I really like this game even it's not ideal.
One random bug kills me though. I play on keyboard, and if I launch the game on a wrong keyboard layout (my native language's one) one of buttons does not work. So, before launching the game I'm checking keyboard layout =_=
And yeah, sometimes, I feel pretty lonely in this game. My internet connection is so freaking bad, that I can't play online matches and because players should be always in lobby, it feels competely frustrating. The place is huge, some people in a lobby, and I can not play against anyone. Yeah, I just play bots all the time on hardest difficulty and it's kinda OK.
Oh, and one question. Is it normal, that I had Android 21 from the beginning (I preordered Ultimate version)?

Anybody here know anything about when we're supposed to be able to get Android 21s costume in XV2 and the Supreme Kai of Time lobby avatar? Scouring the internet has given me several conflicting results

So you're telling that there's quite a difference between the dub and the original version? Gosh, I wish we had someone to make a expanded comparative about itKataphrut wrote:Word on the grapevine is a lot of the character interaction scenes were punched up by the dub, which extends to the Japanese subtitles. The DLC for Xenoverse 2 is due to be released on the last Tuesday (as always) of February. As for this game, we don't have the exact day but it is going to be released in February as well, probably on the same day.MKCSTEALTH wrote:Anybody here know anything about when we're supposed to be able to get Android 21s costume in XV2 and the Supreme Kai of Time lobby avatar? Some of her dialogue suggest that she literally IS dr. gero's wife as opposed to a clone.Omniboy wrote:So I'm guessing that Android 21 is a bio-android just like Cell, but with all the memories of Dr.Gero's former wife, and was also modeled after her. Is that right?

I don't mean Dragon Ball in general. I didn't expect any of that in this game ever. It's just I never expected such an extreme heavy character focus in dialogue is all.I never expected such wonderful interactions. A lot people praise writing that mocks itself and makes references to the fans or out of universe things that would make no sense for a character actually say. A bad but fan pleasing joke would be a reference to how some people needlessly obsess over power levels. Making that kind of joke could be annoying as it stops being about characters and more a social commentary.Kataphrut wrote:Is that something you were afraid of in a Dragon Ball game?dbzfan7 wrote:I just love the writing and banter in this game. What the fuck is up with the English subtitles? Are they trying to make it more fun by adding insults and changing lines? I have seen a couple so far (I am at chapter 4 in the story now). I'm at the part where Goku and Krillin are about to fight Cell. Cell clearly says "Well, if it isn't Goku and Krillin" while the subtitles are "-Goku and his annoying, nose-less sidekick."
