I don't think I ever downloaded that episode.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet that Drummond's Kai performance will blow Sabat's out of the water.

Later on in the podcast, you can hear one of them say "We're probably already in trouble for that Dragon Ball thing earlier...", so this is clearly the right episode, but it's missing that critical piece.
So... Anyone have the full episode? I'm curious to here the full section, as the YouTube video cuts it off, and as a result, there's an unknown amount of missing content that's in neither the YouTube video, nor the version of the episode I downloaded.

Ian Corlett left for better-paying work, though he continued to voice Goku for some of season 2 under a different name.
Peter Kelamis left to focus on his standup career.

He sounds so thoroughly pissed and unreasonable but never forced. It's a fine line between cartoony and realistic. That was also 20 years ago. I can imagine his approach now would be just as good and even more believable than before, if the production and direction were proper for him to perform at optimum.

Here's where they talk about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIkDTE-yvsk

I've also heard that it was over pay disputes, mostly with Kalemis because they weren't counting all of their screams as actual lines, so they wouldn't pay them for those recordings. That's what I've heard at least.

I mean, I get it. The voice he uses for Vegeta is a cool one. I just don't see it really working for the more serious Vegeta moments.

Trevor Devall plans on reuploading all of the Voice Print episodes. Once he starts doing that, someone should ask him if he still has the original verison of episode 26. At this point it's all water under the bridge and it'd be especially pointless to upload the edited version if Wow actually picks up the dub.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Just watch Drummond's scene in the Buu Ocean dub where he admits Goku is number 1. His calmer, serious moments are absolutely fine. Drummond is an actor first and foremost, and he delivers a wider variety of character types over the years. He can absolutely pull off older, calmer Vegeta fine. Even then, the Kai dub doesn't even go that far. He's still playing asshole Vegeta by the end of it.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Yes, that's the YouTube video I was referring to; thing is, that fades out during a line of conversation which is totally absent from the version of the podcast you can download, so even if I use that video to restore some of the missing segment there's still missing parts.

Hm. I can't find any reliable sources on reasons why he left. Looks like I was remembering the comedy stuff as a thing from DB Wikia.
Still, I can't find anything about pay disputes, so I dunno.

It does work. He pulled off some pretty great serious moments in the two episodes of Funimation's Super dub he was in.

I'm not a member of that Facebook group. Would one of the kind folks here mind replying to him asking this very question, if possible?
I imagine it's probably a good idea to ask him now, rather than after he's already got them all up; this way, he might make a note to do that when he uploads it all, rather than afterwards when it'd be more of an "Eh, we already have #26 up, that's not a big deal..."
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

As far as I know it was Corlett that left over pay disputes and not being paid for screams. Haven't heard anything reliable about Kelamis' reasons for leaving though.

I like Drummond as serious Vegeta too, but I think his work in the Westwood dub while respectable still left a lot to be desired, mainly because of the direction. I think Sabat worked better as serious Vegeta in Kai, but Drummond in the Copy Vegeta arc might be able to give current him a run for his money as he was absolutely stellar there, especially with the screams (which blew Sabat's screams out of the water).

Currently my ranking for each era of Vegeta by both actors would go like this:

Super Drummond > Kai Sabat > Super Sabat > Westwood Drummond = Saban Drummond > Z Sabat

The reason why Kelamis left the role was because he wanted to focus on his comedy career or something IIRC.

That's fair.
Yeah, the Ocean cast in general always blew the Funi cast out of the water for screams. Kirby Morrow was the only exception, I suppose, although he did get better at it later on.
Chris Sabat and Scott McNeil can scream like there's no tomorrow, though. It's insane.

I'm hoping and praying here that Ocean Kai comes. Hearing Brian Drummond's Over 9000 line again will be worth it :D

I'm sorry but Sabat isn't on the same level of McNeil when it comes to screaming or even Drummond. There were moments in Kai where he didn't sound very good when it came to screaming.

Since the Ocean dub of Kai is supposed to be accurate, Drummond will likely say 8000 instead of 9000.

Isn't it "Over 9000" in the original Japanese in Kai? And weirdly switched back to 8000 in the Funi dub?

No, it's always been 8000, even in Kai. The original Japanese version of Z kept it right & Kai isn't any exception. You may be thinking of the TV Nicktoons airing that had the 9000 version to acknowledge the meme, then the uncut Blu-Rays had the correct line.

Kelamis did leave to pursue comedy, it's Scigs who is wrong here. It was also Ian Corlett who took issue with screaming and not being paid for it, not Kelamis. Corlett usually brings up the screaming & pay issue in interviews and convention panels, to my knowledge Kelamis has never really brought it up. I doubt this was even still an issue by the time of the Westwood dub as the unions had begun to amend that rule once anime work became more prevalent in Vancouver.

While on the subject, I've always thought Kelamis had a natural aptitude for screaming when it came to Goku. There are examples in the Pioneer dubs where he delivers longer screams than Schemmel's version of the same scenes, and this was in a dub not produced or directed by Barry Watson, someone who was notorious among the Ocean cast for pushing them hard on the screams (in the Saban series).

Once upon a time, way back in the early 2000s, there was a website called UKDB that had this information. There were some interviews conducted with Kelamis and some other actors between 2001 and 2003. Not everything remains available to view nowadays, but some of it does.

https://web.archive.org/web/20021208150 ... vew2.shtml

Internet Archive is your friend.
Peter Kelamis: I left the role when the show wasn't able to continue recording with me being in Los Angeles half the time as well as being busy with other work.

As far as "dubbing" goes, it is the least paying of animation work. Their budgets usually don't allow the actor to "phone patch" in their work. You are either able to physically make it to the gig or not.
If you tend to be a busy actor, unfortunately "dubbing" falls farther down the list than say on-screen work or "Pre-lay" recordings.

The part was fun to do and the people involved were great to work with, but I moved on. Kirby is a friend of mine and the show is lucky to have someone as good as him available to do the role.

I knew there was something to all of this. So, for him it was both, technically. The way he puts it here, because he got so much work both in LA & Canada that required him elsewhere half the time, & thee pay being rather low compared to his other work, he had to make a choice & either stay in Canada more, but be paid less, or keep going back & forth between LA & Canada & be paid more for more work, especially through prelay & live action work, which makes sense (which, by the way, I can't believe he was the voice of Rolf in Ed, Edd, N Eddy. Never suspected that).
Corlette was the one to have direct problems with the cast not being paid for their long screams, but Kalemis, while not having a problem with the pay, DID ultimately let it come down by that, as well as the other opportunities. Makes sense.

I can't speak on the individual reasons for people leaving the show, but if you're referring to the issue I think you're referring to (ie getting paid per line defined as 10 words, with a scream counting for one word, meaning you could blow out your voice and only earn the minimum session fee) then I can tell you that language was definitely still in the animation agreement in the 2000s.
