Does my boy Gohan have to beat Toppo in order to be "redeemed" and live up to the hype of this arc?

Gohan doesn't need this crap show anymore. He's top tier in FighterZ, arguably the best, and definitely the best if you spend full 7 bars on his ultimate power-up.

i thought that in that game even Cell made fun of Gohan in cutscenes about Gohan being weak.

Every character gets made fun of in FighterZ and every character also gets badass character moments because FighterZ has character writing that's WAY better than anything in Super. Everyone is in character. Everyone is rightfully mocked for their flaws, but also gets due praise for their positive aspects, even Yamcha gets heartwarming and fun moments, while Super just mocks him and nothing else. Gohan gets mocked but works to further improve himself, unlike Super where they just try and make us believe Gohan is still cool even though he's never really cool.
