DBZ - DBS plothole

Post by Namz » Fri Dec 22, 2017 1:15 pm

I was rewatching the final episodes of DBZ when I heard Bulma (just before the final tournament) complain that Goku never visits them. Then Goku says "that's not true! I visited you 5 years ago!"

However Bra already is born in DBS. That means we are 3 or maximum 4 years before that episode of DBZ.

Well to be fair, Goku stinks at math. Besides, wasn't that a dub line? It's not that big of a deal. It can just be thought of Goku either lost track of time or he did the math wrong.

People have been bringing this up since Super started. It's in the Japanese version too. Both Goku and Bulma mention it's been 5 years:

So yeah, unless they're both doing some generous rounding, Super has effectively retconned this, albeit probably unintentionally. The timeframe in which Super takes place has always been a little hard to swallow in my opinion.

Oh, didn't actually see your post.

Anyways. Is that in the manga of DBZ, too?

At least in the viz version, Goku says "That's not true. I visited you five years ago."

Yes.

So far, it is not a plothole. Both Goku and Bulma rounded it up, it will be a plothole if Dragon Ball Super come up with a new saga taking place in AGE 781, but we all know that's not going to happen.

This is one possible retcon that I'm glad they went with, because I think it's rather silly that Goku & Vegeta haven't met or talked to each other in 5 years.

Vegeta also loses inches and regains his original height apparently

Hm, this is of for the timing not to align properly with reality. Dragon Ball has always been consistent with this type of thing in sure it can be explained. Also I can wait for tonight's full episode for a coverage of one minute
