...Did I say that just because someone buys Dragon Boxes they're that way? I said that most people who are into the show, who do want to own it, are earning minimum wage, since it's come back to that. All that stemmed from the fact that while 25 year olds might go out and easily buy whatever they want, someone earning 8 bucks an hour can't.

I guess being multilingual is above some people's capability, but to quote Eddie Izzard "the Dutch speak four different languages and smoke marijuana!" ;pSmooth Criminal wrote:Cool, because you can watch and enjoy something in another language without subtitles and without understanding what they're saying outside of character and attack names.
That's cool.

If you have already seen the seried in English and in English subtitles, then it really wouldn't matter.Smooth Criminal wrote:Cool, because you can watch and enjoy something in another language without subtitles and without understanding what they're saying outside of character and attack names.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

That depends on your degree of obsession, mine being rather formidable. I don't understand by ear what it is they're saying all the time, being nowhere near fluent in the language, but I can pop in a random DVD, listen to DBZ from the next room and follow along by linking a few words and the delivery of what one character or another says to the appropriate Daimou subtitle in my head, having read the subtitles directly just that many times. So it stands to reason that I or another person could do the same thing if I were running a DragonBox disc with no subtitles to speak of.

That's...life. I'm 24 now. I make enough money to get by and occasionally indulge my hobbies. I'm still in college and working towards making more so I can splurge on stuff like the Dragon boxes. For now the FUNi sets, while not ideal due to the sheer inanity of the remastering process (one CAN clean up film stock without forcing a full screen show into widescreen format- I've seen it done with, oh, every other show I've got that has been remastered), will do for now.TheGreatness25 wrote:...Did I say that just because someone buys Dragon Boxes they're that way? But let's cut back like 6 years. Or 5. Or 4. I was making significantly less than I currently do. I could afford significantly less. People as young as you are talking about typically don't make bucketloads of cash. So they can't "feed the habit," whether it be Dragon Ball or anything else.
So I guess you could say I have no idea what your point is, in regards to this topic. The Dragon Boxes were expensives. The FUNi DVDs were more expensive. The current releases, at retail price, could cost have cost you $150, with I'd assume at least 3 if not 4 more sets on the way (is there a projection on that?). I remember when that was the rough price of buying a 20-30 episode anime series, and I'm not talking all that long ago.
So it seems to me like your suggestion is to not buy either because young people aren't rich and DVD collections tend to cost money. Am I missing anything?
I can't count the number of times I've had an anime on for background noise. If its one that I watch in Japanese, like Dragon Ball or Death Note, I can usually tell what's going on by ear if I concetrate for a second (if I'm not in view of the screen). It really isn't that outlandish of a thing to suggest someone might get used to something they've seen many times, or that the human mind might possibly have the capacity to understand things outside of its native language.Smooth Criminal wrote:Cool, because you can watch and enjoy something in another language without subtitles and without understanding what they're saying outside of character and attack names.

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Ayup, I bought my girlfriend that Pixar Shorts Collection on Blu-ray, and she was watching it last night. "Hey, look. It's HD, but it's 4:3 by pillarboxing. Why didn't FUNimation do that?"
Why indeed

In Canada it's ok to download and make a copy for yourself, but it's not ok to upload/share anything! Cool eh!Illegal is as illegal does. I don't want to get into that discussion again, but filesharing isn't illegal everywhere. Hell, even here in Canada, it's unclear (except that the RCMP isn't going to prosecute anyone).

Well if you're willing to fork over 1600 dollars on two box sets for the show, it'd be easy to assume that DBZ consumes your life.VegettoEX wrote:What makes you think it consumes anyone's life just because they buy a Dragon Box? Your statements aren't making any sense what-so-ever; every single one of your generalizations has been debunked. You're absolutely right that I don't get what you're saying.

Is there a problem with that? It's that same as someone forking over a much larger amount of money on a car that isn't really necessary.jjgp1112 wrote:Well if you're willing to fork over 1600 dollars on two box sets for the show, it'd be easy to assume that DBZ consumes your life.VegettoEX wrote:What makes you think it consumes anyone's life just because they buy a Dragon Box? It's something that helps you get places and to show off with. this is just a TV show. Which makes mor sense: spending $1600 on two TV show boxsets, or more money on a nice-looking car?Ex-Dubbie369 wrote:Is there a problem with that? No matter what anyone says, you seem completely convinced that anyone who spends more than a two-digit amount of money on Dragon Ball is a drooling psycho that sits around all day rocking back and forth clutching a Piccolo plushie.jjgp1112 wrote:It's something that helps you get places and to show off with. this is just a TV show. Oh, and people don't need brand new cars with crap for mileage just to get around.
