Is this Japanese title calling Cell a God of Destruction from the 90's real?

Is this Japanese title calling Cell a God of Destruction from the 90's real?

I saw this online:

Is this real? Did a Japanese episode title from the 90's really call Cell a "God of Destruction?"

Kind of ironic because now with Beerus and co. existed it's funny to look back at something like this. I don't know if it's real though.

It's very much real

cause we can say he's mediforically a god of destruction lol Do they refer to him as such in the anime? I can't recal.

It's real. Cell's called a 'hakaishin', a god of destruction. You know who's also a god of destruction?

Yes, that would be Dragon Ball Z episode 160.

This was also done with Dragon Ball GT with Lood, who was similarly referred to as a Hakaishin ("God of Destruction"). Was the One-Star Dragon also referred to this way, maybe?

(These examples, and perhaps Gotenks calling himself a shinigami, would probably make for good additions to our recent guide...)

So did people not find this funny when Beerus debuted in 2013 and was called a God of Destruction? Weird how I never heard about this all the way till now in 2018....

I don't think it's any weirder than, say, if a character referred to the Muten Roshi as a "god of martial arts" (which I'm betting probably does happen) only for Goku and the others to later meet God. Some things are just a figure of speech. It's a funny coincidence, and I doubt it raised any eyebrows when Beerus became a literal god of destruction.

I think that the hakaishin nicknames for Lood and Cell were throwaway terms that didn't stick with the characters (plus, Lood was only in the series for about 5 episodes).

Well the title also says Battle Power Infinity. It is not like a title is supposed to be taken seriously apart from standing for something "awesome", not necessarily 100% descriptive in the most literal way of things.

That's actually pretty funny to be honest.

It'll make re-watching those episodes interesting because I'll raise my eyebrows for a split second despite knowing that they aren't referring to actual Gods of Destruction from the DB franchise.

I believe the Japanese title for the episode where Cell absorbed 17 referred to him (Cell) as a super gourmet as well. So he was talented in both creation and destruction
