Character Bashing Topic

Post by AnzuMazaki » Mon Nov 26, 2007 4:53 pm

I saw a topic against Character BashinginPojo and thought we could discuss the topic here.

Is your DB character hated and are you sick of it? Well discuss it here.

I have a few favourite DB characters that are hated,Yamcha and Chichi get the most crap from bashers.

They call Chichi a bitch because she's apsycho mom stereotype, which isn't nessecarily a bitch and don't forget those VxB gettogether fics that portray Yamcha so badly.

So what's your favourite character that's bashed?or what do you think of Character bashing?

My favorite character is Freeza, and... I'm quite the fanatic about him. Unfortunatly, the treatment he's recieved in America from both Ocean and Funimation causes... quite a few American DBZ fans to completly misjudge his character. I mostly just shrug off Freeza-bashing though. The character is pretty much designed to be hated. There's plenty of reasons I myself can think of bashing Freeza without even touching on his voice.

He cut himself with his own attack, he begged for his life, he went crying to daddy, ect. So yeah, bashing doesn't really bug me in that regard. But I still cringe whenever I hear Linda Young. She'll never begin to measure up to Ryūsei Nakao's epic performance.

Krillin.

Everyone say that he is a whiny, useless character.

If it was not for him, they all would be dead. If Krillin didn't participate in the Vegeta fight, Goku and Gohan would die. It was because of him that the Genki-dama's remaining energy could be used.
If Krillin didn't distract Freeza, Piccolo wouldn't make it in time to save them, and Gohan would get killed.
If it wasn't for Krillin, all the Z-fighters would have died after the fight against the androids.
If it wasn't for Krillin, Vegeta would be dead when Recoome shot a blast at him.

They lyin'!

Totally agreed with Godo.

Despite the fact he started as a bit of a coward and a cheater when he first landed on Kamesennin's island, Krillin matured into a great warrior comparable to Goku. Not in power, but in spirit.

Krillin was always there when it really mattered. He made impressive progress in the 21st, 22nd and 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai.

He fought valliantly against General Blue, he sacrificed himself against Tambourine when Goku's Dragonball was stolen and he and Kamesennin were initially planning on helping Goku with Raditz. He also helped greatly against the Saiyans, he took out several Saibamen on his own, fired the Genki Dama and even had the opportunity to finish Vegeta for good. He lead the group on Namek to keep them safe from Freeza until Goku arrived and continued to help out in both the Android and Buu arcs, despite the fact that there's no way he could stand up against these foes who could even defeat Super Saiyans.

Also, he's voiced by Mayumi Tanaka and Sonny Strait, who're both totally awesome. :P

And Krillin is probably one of my Dad's fictional heroes of sorts (though I think he values the wise a lot higher for obvious reasons?). I think there is an editorial at daizex that says it pretty well. It being thatKrillin is awesome.

Meh, I think a lot of people are just atracted to "I am strong! Smash!" (Broli, Vegeta, anime Kid Buu). And then some people go for cute, or hot (which are not the same in this context at all...).

Meh, I dunno. I'm a Gohan nut, and he's obviously one of the popular characters, but I still hear him get a lot of bashing by idiots who don't logically approach the fact that he WAS a child throughout most of the series, AND NOT ALL CHILDREN AS LIKE SON GOKOU. Not to mention he grows up to be a complete and utter waste of life and nnnngh...Great Saiyaman alone, then becoming the Nerd King...thaaaaaaat doesn't make him look very good, I'll say that much. So even as one of the 'big' characters, Gohan does take a lot of heat, and I don't think he deserves one bit of it.

Hard to debate that kind of thing though, being the kind of person I am (if I don't get the last word I'll pretty much flip out and go insane, and DaizEX is too strict a board where I want to risk setting off my bad temper ^^;;;; ). So if I see a Gohan-bashing post I typically won't reply - I'll generally fume silently to myself, plotting secretly against the poster all the way. ^_^

It's not so much a "character" as it is a "saga".

I loved the Buu episodes yet see them bashed a lot for the random plot twists and the "is he trying to be serious or comedic?" direction Toriyama often goes in at this point.

My favorite filler is in the Buu saga. Goku and Vegeta's journey inside Buu; them riding on a food float through a river of stomach acids, Vegeta freaking out at giant worms and being slimed, the fake Gohan, Piccolo, and Gotenks being turned into pastries; it's all so "out there". <3

That, and you can't make up hilariously uncomfortable situations like the fusion point created by the portara earrings.
Seriously, the crotch? Really?? XD

Only thing I didn't like is how Goku took off with Uubu at the end. I would've rather he trained Uubu at Mount Paozu so he could continue living with his family. He's the teacher, make his student come to him, not the other way around. o_O
Even Roshi had Goku and Kuririn come to his home to train.
On hiatus.

Goku has made some questionable and at times not-so-smart moves,,, he gets crapped on a lot by fans but i don't think he deserves a lot of it...same with Yamcha.

I get more defensive when it comes to Goku bashing than any other character bashing...Goku-bashers - beware.

I never had a problem with Gokou himself so much as the fact that he always HAD to save everyone. I blame the fans more than Toriyama-Sensei for that, though, considering how many times he tried to thrust Gohan into the spotlight. Sure Gokou as a character has a lot of flaws by today's standards, but back in the era of DBZ characters like that weren't terribly uncommon, so I don't think he's a bad character at all...just the fact that he is ALWAYS the hero is annoying as all Hell (one look at Movie #13's title says it all, that even as the series wound its way out, EVEN IN A MOVIE THAT WAS NEARLY FLAWLESS (except for that brain-breaking shit they pulled with Trunks' sword that...does...not...make...sense...@_@;;; ) AND CONDUCTED ITS PLOT IN A WAY THAT GOKOU DID NOT HAVE TO WIN, THEY MADE HIM WIN ANYWAYS!!! KRAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

The concept enrages me...but not Gokou himself.

Gohan being a child is a good part of the reason I heavily dislike him. Nine-year-old Goku was chilling in the woods with his grampa, punching fish and hearing tales of the mythical "girl". Nine-year-old Gohan? The Most Powerful Being in Existence.

Bleh.

As a fellow Gohan fan, my advice about Rocketman is to not take him too seriously. It's kind of his thing. He bashes Gohan, I'll often jokingly attack him for it, then he says something else. I tend to chuckle through the whole thing truthfully.

Yeah, really I didn't even consider what he said in that post as bashing, because it's a good point - but as I see it, it's fucking DBZ, and there are far stranger/more inconsistant things therein. :P

I only posted back because I'm on the phone with Lemmy and he told me about Rocketman's desire to bash Gohan for the sake of a reaction, and I thought it might be amusing to egg him on. :P

Ah. Yes that's part of the reason I never take his comments against Gohan seriously myself. XD

Well, he does! He's not doing it JUST for the sake of expressing an opinion; he wants people to see and respond to his hatred of Gohan and his total love for Vegetto. It amuses him, and he in turn amuses us.

The truth of it is that he's made it into something of an art form, so whether you agree with him or not it's still kinda of a fun read whenever he pulls out the Gohan Spank Stick. I've said it before, and I'll say it again-- Rocketman, the Original DaizEX Smartass.

No, actually, that one was me calmly pointing out part of the grain that I truly do find irritating about Gohan that has become the core of the beautiful pearl of ranting. It's nice to mix things up a bit every now and then. :P

You DaizEX gals got a very unique perspective of that potara fusion. XD;;

Anywho, our resident Rocketman really can make his bashing of Gohan a work of art. And what can I say, Gohan's my favorite character in the entire series, yet even I find some of those comments amusing. What's even more amusing? Rocketman has a total, 24/7 obsessive fixation with Chichi. Nothing wrong with that, just amusing that he loves/lusts the mother and hates the son. A psychiatrist would have a field day with analyzing this. Cheers to Rocketman!
