Poor quality DBZ on Television

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I don't remember the morning double bill, but I clearly remember the poor quality episodes. I might actually have it recorded somewhere. You know, I really wish CN would play DBZ again. I have everything on tape apart from the last few episodes. :(

Yeah I remember that, but I don't think this was the only time that it happened. I seem to remember during the "Fusion Saga" we got the Funimation dub back for a while and it happened a few times during the course of the Gohan vs Buu fight. Strangely enough, when these episodes repeated we got back the Ocean Dub, which remained until the end.

And on the subject of Toonami...

Well, if you remember rightly when CN branched off into the awesome "CNX" and later Toonami we got regular episodes of Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT being aired at numerous time slots during the day - we even got the odd "Dragonball Z Saga Marathon Day" which was equally awesome.

When Toonami changed it's direction they stopped airing Dragonball all together, so I sent an email to Toonami myself asking about it and the answer I got was that the licenses had expired and they believed it would be of more benefit to persue new programming with the money they had available.

Well, Toonami, that really worked out well for you didn't it? XD The relaunching of the network was a complete failure, and the only new shows that it bought were live action crap like "Backyard Science" that Toonami fans hated. Thanks to that clever bit of marketing, Toonami is no-more.

That must have really played Hell on the "casual fan" of the show, over there. What, with everyone's voices changing frequently.

You're telling me. We first had the Saban/Funi Dub, then the Funi dub up until the "Trunks Saga", then the Ocean Dub up until the "Fusion Saga", Then the Funi Dub for about 10 episodes, then back to the Ocean dub. Dragonball GT and Dragonball were both in the Blue Water Dub and the Dragonball Z movies we're dubbed by a group called "Wolf", and we're absolutely horrible.

I wish the UK would just stick to ONE DUB. NOT FOUR, ONE. Us poor UK dbz fans. :)
Just another Dragon Ball fangirl in the world.

So they no longer have the license? Well that's disappointing. CN has gone down the crapper since CNX was canned. I watch the show in Japanese now, but I love the Ocean dub for pure nostalgia value.

Wow, that would drive me insane.

Question - are these movie dubs you speak of the ones where Goku sounds like an old man and Tien sounds like Yoda? If so, I pity you more than I've ever pitied someone before. I'm so sorry.

Haha, I think so. I seem to Remember Goku sounded like an angry Harrison Ford. Another interesting thing I remember is that they call Piccolo "Big Green" for some bizzare and twisted reason.

I remember the poor quality episodes too (after the Cell saga, when Goku was doing the Other World Tournament), but I have no idea why they were like that...

There's some other strange stuff, too. Like when I was watching Dragonball (Goku versus Piccolo Junior), some random, different language subtitles appeared for a few seconds out of nowhere. :? Oh, and when the DBZ Movie 1 (Big Green dub) cut 3 quarters through and played from an earlier segment (not finishing at the end of the movie).

But, that's nothing. I think overall, Toonami/ Cartoon Network did a great job; they had cool adverts (even the Big Green movies had awesome and dramatic adverts, with orchestral cues), did marathons, held those 'Who's the mightiest Super-Hero' contests and whatnot. Too bad it's over.

I don't know about UK, but in the US, we get a DBZ episode every Saturday. It makes me laugh. Imagine how many years you'd have to watch it for by getting ONE episode per week? lol They're up to the episode where Trunks and Perfect Cell are righting. They showed the episode of Imperfect Cell encountering Krillin (airport scene) like half a year ago. Man, that's horrible.

But really, how much more DBZ can they show? They showed all of Dragon Ball, all of Dragon Ball Z, all of Dragon Ball GT (including their oh so missing Lost Episodes), and they even showed the Ultimate Uncut twice. Not to mention God knows how many times they repeated the series. But man, oh man, is Cartoon Network suffering. I can't watch anything on the damn thing anymore, I just wait for Adult Swim to come on so I can watch my damn Futurama and Family Guy. That's it. I own basically all of DBZ, I own all of GT, I don't own all of Dragon Ball, but they don't show it anyway. I own Cowboy Bebop, so I don't have to watch those on Cartoon Network. In my opinion, everything else they got is unwatchable for me, so I stay away from Cartoon Network.
