Hey everyone. Posting in the previous Trunks/Bardock topic would have been one hell of a bump, so I decided to make a new one for the newely released art.
Also on the main site of course:
This is damn cool cover art. I love the Trunks picture, the faded backround, and the titles. It's going to be really tough sticking to my anti-widescreen guns and not picking this one up. I don't have the two specials on DVD and I'm one of those cover guys, I would like to have this grace my shelf.
I have both on VHS but History of Trunks is edited. It will be nice to have them even if most of Bardock's head might be missing when he's standing up to Freeza.
Still no season sets, though! Never! Guess I sound a bit contradictory, the cover will honestly be the main reason. Oh, and does anyone know where that Trunks picture comes from?

Wow they screwed Bardock over; his team is faded out in a small obscured corner.

This is Standard Definition right, not HD? If so I'm definitely picking it up.

Well it's not Blu-Ray but I'm assuming it's remastered the same way as the series. Oh, and I don't have them on DVD either. Have you seen the prices for these DVDs? Geez, I'm talking $60 for each. No thanks. I'd be happy just getting this. Though I'm curious, will it really be Widescreen, or just "remastered"? I mean it doesn't say widescreen on it.
Oh and since I'm collecting the Season sets, this would be a nice little addition. I collect it because it's a new take on the series, and on top of that, if you're in the mood for something different, you can watch the dub with Japanese music, which makes it feel like a brand new dub really.

I think this cover looks really good. I may/will pick this up.

Agreed. I mean I know it's in widescreen and fauz-remastered, but that is some awesome cover art (even if Bardock and his team are pretty much banished to the faded background part). And as you mentioned, the individual DVDs are impossible to come by. The podcast also said something about those DVD releases being kinda crappy picture-wise, too.
This'll definitely be a welcome edition to replace my Uncut VHS copies (so it's not like I'm completely stuck with a widescreen release).

Great cover but wont be picking this up, never have agreed or supported Funi's so called "REMASTERING" of the DBZ show, as I've said before I'm waiting for another company to buy the series from them, or waiting for Funi to do it right, until then..........

I very much doubt that the series will ever be retouched after this "remastering" process. So if someone else buys the show off of them, what are they gonna do? Redub it? Doubtful. Don't hold your breath for it. FUNimation wouldn't let their biggest cash cow escape from them. Besides, you complain about the "Remastered" set, but you get the original music with the dub, so that's something people wanted for a long time. Sorry, it may be off topic, but I just had to point that out.
When they did release DBZ , what were other Anime's organized like? Same thing. The music was replaced and the whole nine yards. Plus, don't forget, FUNimation started and ended DBZ when they were still a dirt poor company. DBZ was basically all they had. They had DBZ from 1999 till 2001. Come on, 2 years. You can't really say they didn't really evolve in those 2 years. You can't compare their other stuff to DBZ because DBZ was a very poor production, they started off from scratch, but they had DBZ.

There never was nor will there ever be a good excuse to what Funi has done to DBZ, sorry.

Yeah, that's another thing that makes me not mind it that much. I've got my VHS full screen versions if I really need them. It's just two movies, not a whole season, so I'll be sound.
Tanooki Kuribo wrote:But where is Bardock?
They should release two covers: this one, plus another version with Bardock replacing Trunks.
Then again, I'll want to drop my money on that one too, and this won't be much of a budget improvement over the older ones

. Here's hoping there will be a nice big picture of Goku's old man on the back.

Well if you don't like Funi's bullshit I say buy the Japanese singles, better quality but no subtitles. Depends on what you want to sacrifice. 20% of the screen or knowing word for word of what the characters are saying. I personally get the singles because I'm a huge dork and I naturally know what the characters are saying. Plus the whole English voices and Japanese music thing doesn't do much for me because I don't watch the dub.
That being said if you'd like to debate this point PM me because I don't want this to get too off topic. I won't be picking this up for the reasons I just explained.

I don't know how likely that's going to be, Kaboom. From what I understand, the dual-release of Broli movies 8 and 10 was also "remastered" but contained no option to listen to the dub with Japanese BGM the way the Season Sets do.
But hey, here's hoping.

Actually, I think it was the other way around. Jap music, but no dub. Howeve,r I could be wrong.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Honestly, this cover isn't that great at all imo. They basically took the original picture of Trunks, and made it all...I can't even really describe it. They basically 'Un-Toei'd' that picture. Doesn't look that appealing.

Well its not as bad as you think, I mean I already own the original dvd releases of both specials, and on top of that my friend owns the dragon box's which I made copys of so I own them as well. Plus I own copys of all the DBZ show from FUNI's orginal dvd run on DBZ way back when, so they havent gotten any money from me which I'm proud of, and I still own the whole series, so either way I win. Now I just play the waiting game.

That IS a fancy cover, but I already have the Bardock dvd and I don't really plan on getting the Trunks one. (If I had I'd have gotten it back when my Suncoast existed).
