Some questions about the old school games
I've been playing Super Butoden 1 and getting my ass whipped by Frieza. Do you have any tips on beating him? Is there any way to prevent his cut scene supers? Are there any moves I can use to finish him off quickly?

Wow. This game really sucks, you're really brave to play it. Congrats.
Anyway, although the game is pretty easy in easy mode, it's a real pain in the neck otherwise, and I never finished it without cheating.
You should look there :

And just a little advice : if you're playing with an emulator, choose the japanese version of the game, it's faster than the French one, and thus the gameplay is better.

Thanks Shenron...I'm resisting making a wish related pun right now.
Does it start out on easy mode? If so I feel like a really weak gamer. It's easy for sure but I feel the cheapness of the AI balances out the natural easiness. I'm having a fairly fun time with the game though despite wanting to break my remote in half. I guess I'm going to go practice some super moves. I find it weird they don't include a training mode in most 2D fighters.

Don't forget this game is almost 15 years old. Practice modes in battle games are quite rare, and only recent (and technical) games have one, since the controls are almost the same for all the games.
And to answer your question, I think the game starts out in Normal Mode. In esay mode, the opponents are less agressive, and it's easier to dodge the super attacks : the command "forward, back, forward + A" works all the time, contrary to the Normal mode.
I don't know your skills in 2D fighting games, but I play fighting games for ages, and I gave up trying to beat this one in Hard mode. The gameplay is really too lame.

Well I am not an expert at 2D fighting games by any means. I've played them for awhile now and only recently have been getting really into them. But when it comes to DBZ I tend to try and stomach whatever the games throw at me. Be it sloppy game play (Butoden 1) the longest load times in history (Shin Budokai 2) or a messed up story mode (Legacy of Goku 1).
I'll be happy if I beat it on normal mode though. I recently got an itch to try and beat every 2D Dragonball fighter after I beat the DBZ game for the Megadrive.

He needs to be at a distance to use these, so if you manage to stay close to him, he shouldn't be able to fire them off.NeptuneKai wrote:Is there any way to prevent his cut scene supers?

I find the best way to deal with Freeza is to stay relatively close to him anyway; spamming the dashing shoulder thing works if you can taunt him with it so he screws up with his counters.
