IMPORTANT STUFFS!

PLEASE READ!

MAJOR DIRECTING AND LEADERSHIP THINGS GOING DOWN AND JUNK!

(Boy, I wish I could make this much progress on my fanfic... @_@; )

Huzzah! Kino's back! Let's get rolling! First to respond to her many things of being said-ness.
KinoFourpaws wrote:I @&%*!$# HATE INTERNET EXPLORER.
FireFox is where it'z at! Also, typing up your post in wordpad or something first and saving your progress on it is a good idea with long posts. :D
First off; I'm sorry, I'm a boob. When I said my next post was going to "have stuff", I hadn't intended for it to take me this long. I ended up disappearing from the board again. Well, I'm alive and back, and while I'm being eaten alive by school right now (who isn't, though?), I'm still working on things for the project when I can...
//Pats on head//

Pish-posh and scroobly-dash, you're still every bit as dependable as some of these rapscallions I've been having to put up with. Speaking of which...
Steven Perry wrote:Oh, hi Kino. :| I'm not getting to enthusiastic, because I know it's only a matter of time before you disappear for 5-10 months again. :(
//Smacks Steven//
KinoFourpaws wrote::!: Kaio-sama: I've found someone recently who's also willing try to voice Kaio-sama. I got him to read his lines, and I must say I was impressed by how he did--he seemed to get Kaio-sama's character pretty much down with a little direction. (He's really interested in voice-acting, too, which helps.) His name is Jeremy (his online nickname is Cole); like Zelahn, he's not a member of DaizEX--I'm not sure if this will be a problem or not. I've asked him to record Kaio-sama's lines and to send them to me so I can show you guys (especially you, Kaboom) so you can decide for yourselves whether he'd be fit for the role or not (if you're okay with him contributing, that is). I might get the recordings from him as early as this weekend; I can't promise that, though, but I'll put them up when I get them. Kaboom, I'll talk to you about him some more when we discuss what's going on with the fandub this weekend... I have his contact information, as well, so if you're interested I can give it to you so you can talk with him a bit. If you don't mind him participating, and if you like what he can do but don't think he'd be the best person to play Kaio-sama, I can tell him about the other roles that need filling as well, so he can try for those if he wishes.
Neat. We ARE pressed for a good Kaio. If he's really good at it, sure. Try to politely tell him to, well hurry it up, since we're SEVERELY behind, and need to get these empty roles filled quick, before everyone strays off again.
KinoFourpaws wrote::!: Shenlong: I haven't gotten to read all of the posts I've missed yet (I've just gone through the last few pages at the moment), so I don't know if this is still an issue or not. Do we have a new voice-actor for Shenlong already?
omegacwa's our new Shenlong, it would seem. It's not that hard a role; it really was just a matter of who sounded the best AFTER the pitch and echo and stuff gets screwed with.
KinoFourpaws wrote:I can't put up a current sample just yet, as it still needs to be recorded (which I can't say I see happening over the weekend, I'm afraid @_@), but I do have an older sample I recorded for Kaboom some time ago. Until I get the new samples done, I'm afraid this one will have to do for now--and I'm guessing Kaboom could still use it anyway for the time being, since he did apparently lose a lot of the sound files for the project with his computer going bonkers. >_>;

Here: Old Gohan Test Lines
Got it. I'll give it a listen. Don't think there's much in need of tweaking for your Gohan voice though,
KinoFourpaws wrote::!: Script revisions: Still not done... I'm sorry; I should have had it taken care of a long time ago already, since the parts to be revised aren't even that big. I'll try to have them done by the weekend... When they're finished, I'll give the revised parts to Bardock the Mexican so he can update his translation accordingly. Does that sound okay, or would you guys just rather move on to the recording at this point? ._.;
...Huh? Wait, what? There's still script revisions that need doing...? Either I wasn't aware of such need, or it's been so long I forgot about it. Probably the latter.

[/directorial incompetence]
KinoFourpaws wrote: <Stuff about microphones>
Aha, yes. These are good ones. But...

Just a notice (and this has ALWAYS been the case), don't feel compelled to go out and waste money on a microphone that you'll probably never use again if you don't need it. This is just a production for fun; and I dunno 'bout the rest of you, but for me, usually "having to spend money unnecessarily" =/= "Fun." If you don't already have a mic that sounds half-decent, then... well, how did you get a voice role?

___________________________________________________

Alright, let's see if there're any other issues that are new or that I've completely missed...

Gyt Kaliba wrote:I completely forgot to ask, what kind of voice are you looking for in the twins? Something like the FUNi version, or do you have something else in mind? Knowing would help me get in mind what you want.
High-but-not-TOO-high-pitched, gnarly, and evil. "Trollish," so to speak.
omegacwa wrote:Well, I know I am already doing like, a zillion roles, but i honestly don't want to do Kaio. I think someone else could do a much better "kaio voice" my voice is much to high pitch for anything decent, IMO. Isn't Steven Perry British, I think a British accent with a deep voice could fit perfectly.

Anywho, here is some Raisin and Rakasei, and Roshi, voices my voice is much more suited for. Blah blah, here are the samples.

http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/cwabackyar ... raisin.mp3

http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/cwabackyar ... /roshi.mp3

Also, here is some new Goku stuff, none of the lines are from the movie, but they are Goku lines.

http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/cwabackyar ... ustuff.mp3
Not bad, not bad. Let's see.

I think we've definitely got (one of) our Terror Twins. :D

Not liking the Roshi so much, though. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't sound very... old. :?

Also, a reminder about the Goku voice. Try to remember to keep that pitch up and the kiddyish pronunciation a bit more obvious. It's what gives the voice that child-like innocence sound to it that's vital for Goku.

Conan, I've still got your samples tucked safely away. Any progress on a better mic, by any chance?

omegacwa wrote:
What about SaiyamanMS's Kaio, guys?
Not bad, but I think he needs to SLOW DOWN, it sounded like he was trying to say the lines as fast as possible. Kaio should speak more methodically IMO.
I agree, that particular sample did seem a little bit rushed. However, before he posted it I was Skyping with MS for a few minutes and working with him, and he had the voice down PAT. I'll see what I can do...

Let me know what you think. If you like it I can put the trailer for the fandub together.

Kewl. Muchly kewl.

However, we've already got at least 2 different primary trailers for the projcet. It's really no longer a priority.

Alrighty, then. In that case, we need to start gathering information as to what everyone's schedules entail.

Overall, I think our goal should be to shoot for that Valentine's Day 08 release date. That means everyone's holiday vacation, after the semesters and such are over, would be primarily when we actually record the voices for the movie. As in f'serious. Recording.

Unfortunately, even I'm beginning to suspect that, even if we do kick things seriously back into gear, that date just might not be feasible. I think we should still try for it, but if it becomes obvious that it ain't happening, then I propose April 5th as an alternative. Either look it up, or someone else extremely nerdy tell everyone what that date is. I won't spoil it. But like I said, let's aim for that February 14th.

I don't know excactly, but I know my semester ends about two weeks into December. Here on the east coast, it will be after midnight, and thus the first day of December, by the time I post this. Which means if we're going to make that deadline, we're going to need to be prepared, and we need to get prepared QUICK. We'll have a relatively small gap of time to get the recording done, so we need to be completely ready for it when it comes.

The first step of that is making sure all the voice acting roles are filled. We're working on that now, and making good progress for the first time in a while.

Meanwhile, another important step is the one that we've been stuck on for a while. Sampling, practicing, and perfecting the voices. Many of you have your character(s) voices down pretty well, and don't really need much extra coaching and practice. Some of you do, though. I'm glad I've finally either gotten voice samples from or been able to (literally) hear most of you, as long as it may have taken. But there's a few of you whom I still haven't. We need to get this worked on so we can be ready. Best way to do that is to voice chat with me directly. Like I said, a lot of you don't really need it. But it wouldn't hurt anyway, even if it's just you giving a quick demonstration or two, and then me saying, "Cool. You're set."

So this is what I'm going to do. It will be up to YOU guys to pick when to voice chat with me.

Here are the times during the week when I can be online and available to chat on Skype. Let me know when you can be on, and I can chat and work with you to help get the voice perfected. These are all East coast US time, so add or subtract hours as need be...
  • Pretty much any night after 10PM or so
    Sunday afternoons/Evenings
Monday, 12-ish to 3 (time between classes; I'll be in the library so I can't voice chat myself, but I can still listen), and later evenings
    Tuesday afternoons through the evening
    Wednesday mornings and early afternoons
Thursday, from about 1 to 4
    All day Friday
    All day Saturday
This isn't counting my work hours, since they vary greatly. The schedule's Friday-Thursday, and doesn't go up until Wednesday night, so wait until then or Thursday to try to set something up with me. But I've been tending to work the Friday or Saturday matinée (That's "daytime") shifts as of late.

Naturally, this requires some sort of voice chat-capable program. Skype, obviously, is completely centered around voice chatting, and is preferred. It's cheap as free and easy to use, so PLEASE grab it if you haven't already. From my experiences, Yahoo! Messenger also has voice chat capabilities, and is also pretty easy to use.

Kino, if you're REALLY and F'SERIOUS back for good now, and since you're kinda my second-in-command in terms of voices, maybe you could do something similar? Chatting with you to work on the voices would probably be just as good (or better) as with me. Up to you, but it would probably help.

Also, I may get back in touch with Kirbopher, and see if he wouldn't mind helping out with the voice coaching, as well. He's been doing this stuff for a good deal longer than probably any of us, and I'm sure he can give better advice than I could.

In that regard, the three of us should probably get together, and decide just exactly what it is we're going for with each character's voice. That way, any of the three of us could effectively coach folks without things getting contradictory or complicated. If we do this, I think that should be something we actually do BEFORE we start chatting with the cast.

________________________________

So that's the current big step for the Voice Actors. While that's going on, I think our editors (...Who are... who exactly, again? Oh geez, do I have to tracking these guys back down, too?!) should start planning out and assembling the other parts together. In that regard, there are several things we need to figure out...

Music. Stevey, do you have your "dub score" just about all planned out? Any spots still need music or anything? Are you having a hard time trying to track down any pieces you want to use? Still up for suggestions on any parts? Are you/we/anyone else gonna compose anything original (a few people have shown capability and interest in that regard. I pointed them to you, our Music Man, but I don't think anything ever happened... :( )

What about the Japanese-BGM version? Have we identified the tracks used in the Japanese version of the movie? Are all or at least most of those tracks available in some form? If so, do we have access to them?

Also, and this is an important one, which version will we put up for viewing online? The dub BGM version, or the original Japanese BGM version? I know out eventual DVD for ourselves will have both. But for the online one for the general viewing public, it's a matter of which will be better received. Also, it may depend on which version we can assemble in time for the release date.

Sound Effects. Do we have everything we need? I know we've got plenty in terms of DBZ-specific sounds already, but we need to make some sort of list of other, more generic SFX we'll need. I know at least I have a whole CD full of SFX (Came with my copy of Vegas), and I'm hoping at least one or two of you have something like that, too. Heck, we'll record things like footsteps and stuff if we need to.

Also, we've got to not only figure out WHAT we need, but WHERE it will go in the movie. We need to make some sort of detailed list for editing reference. Same with the music.

Footage. I'm getting to this part a bit too late to delve into it and look things up, but have our editors all gotten the footage properly, and decided who's in charge of putting what together? I'm sorry, but I really can't remember anymore whether these things were decided or not. Things like dividing up scenes, who's putting the whole thing into one piece at the end, and stuff like that.

____________________________

So I think that's about it. It's up to you guys, really. There's not much I can do right now besides delegate this stuff, and keep going through and evaluating your voice samples so far.

So what do you guys say? Can we get ourselves a little more dedicated and organized, and get this project finished~?

Yes, everything's goin' good. I'll give it to you when the time's needed- so that in the meantime, I can make a few adjustments here and there. As for people composing music, I don't think the quality will be up to the standards of what I'm already using (I haven't heard any samples from the members as of yet, so I don't know that for sure...).
Kaboom wrote:What about the Japanese-BGM version? Have we identified the tracks used in the Japanese version of the movie? Are all or at least most of those tracks available in some form? If so, do we have access to them?
We haven't identified the tracks, but if I recall correctly, Arcwave has a shitload of Japanese BGM CDs. So he could help identify the tracks, and do the placing.

Well, I say the dub BGM (a recent video of mine had gotten some good responses on YouTube).
Kaboom wrote:Also, we've got to not only figure out WHAT we need, but WHERE it will go in the movie. We need to make some sort of detailed list for editing reference. Same with the music.
Oh gee... that's a big one... but I think I can handle it. I don't know the names of the music, so I can't help with listing the music- only sound effects. Someone with the knowledge and patience will have to deal with the music (Arcwave?). How is Arcwave, anyway?

So,

- I'll note down what sound effects are needed and where (if that's okay with you guys)
- The dub BGM has been completed (but I've only shown you the ending segment so far)
- Not sure if composing our own music will be any good, because I haven't heard any samples yet...
- Arcwave could handle the 'identifying the music and placing it' part (if he's up to it, of course)
- I say we should use the dub BGM for Internet viewing

YEAH, MAN! :o I'd like a few more definite dates, though- so it can go on that calendar thing (which I call the KEVDG).

Just posting the Head Cha La lyrics you misplaced Kaboom.

Piercing through the shining clouds, I fly away (fly away),
While a panorama spreads through my entire body.
Kicked in the face, the planet gets angry (gets angry),
And it makes one of its volcanoes explode!

Within the melted ice of the Artic
If there is a dinosaur, I want it to balance atop a ball!

CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
No matter what happens I just feel that, it's not a problem at all.
CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA
Just as loudly as my heart pounds,
I feel the Genki-Dama roar!

CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
I’d rather have my head be empty, so I can fill it with dreams!

CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA
With a smile that is just Ultra-Z,
Today is ai-yai-yai-yai-yai...
Sparking!

Remember that this is Jullian's translation, I justy modified it a bit to fit the beat.

I don't have one at the moment, but you have my word that for my next samples and my actual recording takes, I'll be using a new high-quality mic (at least much better than my cruddy webcam's). Unfortunately, I can't use Skype in the time requirements you've listed. 1) I can't get it installed at the moment, and 2) I have to go to bed early due to either days of classes or working. I hate to say it, but I'll have to share practice takes through emailing.

So why, I wonder, a whole week after I sent out the position-threatening mass e-mail and wrote ANOTHER masochistically-long post explaining in great detail what needs to be done...

...Have we gotten so little?

I mean, a few of you are actually helping out, but that's only 3 or 4 out of... two dozen? The SAME 3 or 4 people who have been around and being helpful for the last couple months. The only helpful thing since then that isn't just me and Kino/Steven posting back and forth in response to each other, as usual, has been the lyrics from Taku.

I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but there's still several of you whom I haven't gotten those voice samples from yet. I doubt this will do any good this time either, but we need those. NOT empty promises to "get them up soon." 10 minutes is all it takes.

God, if we can't even get THIS done, how are we ever going to actually record? Or do any of you still even give a shit?

Don't give a shit. :|

Maybe, what we're trying to communicate to the cast doesn't feel 'real' enough to them; we need to be there face-to-face and slap some sense into them!

Y'know what? That gives me an idea. I think we should make videos of our posts; the cast are much more likely to listen to a 'moving-form-speak'* version of us, rather than a faceless text-messaging phantom on a message board. We need to show that the people behind the avatars are real, pissed, and waiting for the project to get started. And also, it'll be easier for them- reading long posts isn't for everyone. I'll put one up!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XxRPYmRYoMY

Woohooo! It's me!

Forgive me if any one I named has in fact submitted voice samples. Oh, and I put a picture of Mizz Kino in there... I hope she doesn't mind (for the rest of the members, there's only their avatars).

*Podcast reference from waaay back, in which VegettoEX expresses that he hasn't seen Akira Toriyama in motion (only pictures).

Though actually, Stevey. A few of the VAs you mentioned HAVE gotten voice samples in. But it was so long ago that they've been long forgotten by all but my folder I have them in.

I have found a mike, but I am a 14-year-oldd who knows nothing about voice acting. So, who's open?
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I'm completely open to Skype-ing (Skyping?) tomorrow or during the week. I feel bad I had so much initial trouble getting the laptop mic to work properly (and then I had to leave early because of my young cousin's birthday party) but it works fine for me now. :3
Times best for me are when I'm the only one in the house, such as weekday mornings/afternoons (as I can talk as loud as I want to without interrupting other people around me. :D )

I haven't watched the YouTube clip yet (I will once I go grab my headset) but I'll only YouTube videoclip if the good majority of the cast is doing so as well. ^_^;

I'd really love it if we could get this finished before the Live Action Movie people get theirs done. @_@
On hiatus.

I'm thinking that probably just one more coaching session on Skype with Kaboom and/or Kino is all that's needed, maybe even we can work off each other as Bulma and Yamcha if we happen to be simultaneously, and you'll be all good to go for recording your genuine takes and sending them to Kaboom (whom then can forward to the sound editors). Once I'm able to as well, I'll be making at least two or three takes of all my dialogue, I believe Azure's using this method as well. I can't wait till I have my much better new mic, finally gonna record for Yamcha and Oozaru Gohan parts at last!

Since every one of the cast and editing crew seems unable to get on AIM, YIM, or MSN at the same time; an IRC chat room has now been established. This is the place to get mIRC, please install on your computer. It's fairly easy to figure out, a small chatting program (not even 2 MBs), and best of all there's much greater chance of the most of us being in the specified room to discuss the chat in much better detail and length than off-and-on in this gigantic thread.

I'm sure Kaboom, Kino, and Steven won't mind me posting the channel name. However, I'll wait to hear from them on it, they may wanna keep the privacy of it limited to just emails and PMs. Keep in mind, this is for cast members, those working on the project outside voicing (Steven with music, Acid with that video guide that we may or may not use in all our recording takes), and those up for replacing the role of Kaio (Kino's friend Cole, Sato/SaiyamanMS). If anyone who isn't involved would like to see how this all goes and voice opinions, PM Kaboom or Kino for the channel.

EDIT: Hell, the chat topic says everyone's welcome, I may as well just list the channel. :p

About that: is there a specific time when we can all get together and do that? :? Maybe, once a week?

... 'And Steven'? Since when was I able to make executive decisions? :P

Err... anyway, yes, think it should be restricted to PMs.

EDIT: Ah well, Conan's done it anway. :P
