Hybrid Action series impressions?

Post by snaku » Fri Dec 07, 2007 8:08 pm

I'm sure some of you have purchased one or two of Bandai's new DBZ Hybrid Action figures. What are they like? How is the sculpting and paint job? Do they display well? How's the articulation? They look cool in pictures, but I know there's a world of difference between looking at pictures on the internet, and actually holding one in your hands.

I'm really interested in picking up GT Goku & Gill...

Any impressions would be appreciated. :)

I don't own the figures myself, but I really like these two sculpts from the image presented here. Can anyone else chime in?

I'm so uninformed. I haven't seen these before. What are the others?

GT Goku never had the Nyoibo. :P Which means the figure is 10th anniversary movie Goku, because he was wearing the GT outfit, but still used the Nyoibo as a weapon. ... I'm a dork. XD

Also, I must agree, that those figures do look nice.

Well, it looks like there's quite the number of these DBZ figures up on amazon Japan. I haven't bought any of the figures myself (I shoulda got that Goku one at Fanime Con when I had the chance!) but based on the pictures up on amazon, it looks like they've at least made an effort to make the figures able to assume some of their more famous poses from the series (Gohan's pose when punching Cell, Kid Boo right after he's transformed, Gogeta holding his fist in front of the camera, Gotenks with his hands on his shoulders as he's about to fight in SSJ3...) so that's one good thing.

Though, as mentioned, looking at pictures and actually handling the figures themselves are two different things.

These are amazing, I don't even collect DBZ figurines and I'm pondering about picking these up!

Those are quite nice looking. Still won't pick them up since I'm not a GT fan however. XD

These figures are amazing. I own the Goku and Vegeta (Non-SSJ) figures and they're the best ones I've ever seen.

The articulation rivals that of Marvel Legends (meaning you can do nearly any pose you can think of-- including the ((finally!)) Kamehameha pose!) and the sculpting is nearly spot on. They finally got Goku's hair down and it looks great.

As for paint, this is probably the weakest point of the figures and that's only because they're small. (Although Goku's gi is a very bright, nearly yellow, orange...imagine the colors when he goes SSJ.) The figures stand at four inches (Vegeta is a little shorter than Goku. :D ) so they are smaller than your usual action figure.

Another badass thing is the multiple hands and stands that come with the figures. Goku has three sets of hands (Open hand, fist and martial-arts hand) while Vegeta has two. (Open, fist.) The stands are these cool little plastic bases that come with clear poles that have these claws on them that can grab onto the figures and hold them in place to make them look like they're flying.

All in all, these figures kick ass. I'm collecting all of them. :D If you guys have anymore questions about them, I'd be glad to answer 'em!
