Need to get myself the FUNimation/Pioneer LaserDisk, and DVDs from more countries.

To keep things on-topic to the original post, it seems like FUNimation's whoring out the DB franchise more today than they have since 2001, probably. It's frightening. And also terribly confusing to their customers. It's one thing for DBZ, but DBGT? There are still boxsets on shelves in stores of the entire series. People don't know what the bloody fuck to buy.

I'd rebuy it if it included the English dub with the original Japanese music.

If it does, then I'm sold.

That's amazing

I'm surprised that nothing regarding One Piece has been announced. Hopefully something will be released in January or February...I can't wait! Cropped DBZ just doesn't do it for me!

Movie 8 is in late February, as has been known for awhile.

Well, now that there'll be the "re-mastered" DBZ movies 1 & 2 sitting right alongside the Blu-Ray DBZ movies 1 & 2 we can really see what Steve Franko meant by "bad down-conversion"!

I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison of the "true" remastering and it's down-converted standard DVD counterpart.

And will have a limited theatrical run, apparently.

Also...this quote caught my interest:
NYAF 2007 Toon Zone report wrote:He added that doing Dragon Ball DVD releases is harder, since the rights to the first 13 episodes are still not held by Funi. as a result, he had no plans to announce for Dragon Ball at the moment.
So I'm guessing this means FUNi is trying to "remaster" the original Dragon Ball as well?

I'm kind of loathing the "remastering" of Dragonball. In the whole Tenshinhan arc there are a lot of moments where Goku and Krillin's heads are at the very bottom of the screen while Tenshinhan and Yamcha's heads are at the very top of the screen. I wonder which set of heads will get cropped during those conversations.

It's times like this I'm glad I bought the Madman DB sets $200 dollars for 150 eps of fullscreen Dragonball is money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

It will be interesting to see how bad the remastering gets on a few of the rather damaged episodes (the worst being an episode during the Goku vs Jackie Chun fight)

So they're going to be releasing the movies two at a time? Sorry FUNI, you just lost a sale. If they had released them all together in a box-set, I would have made a purchase. I already have 1-11 in fullscreen, so a widescreen set would have been quite nice.

Just wait till they are done, Funi will tape them together and you can buy the full box set.

Well, I've recently come to wonder more about this regarding watching the FUNi releases on my television. For one, we got their applied zoom-in function to apparently avoid damages and whatnot. As well as natural television overscan on the top and bottom, depending on the set (such as my own). So then, would it be safe to assume that any type of cropping on the 4:3 releases is equivalent to the season sets when watching on a television? I've actually compared my first Ultimate Uncut DVD to season 1's first few episodes on my own set, and the footage amount looks about equivalent. Perhaps the only instance of more cropping I've come across in comparing is Kui's head in a Namek saga flashback (comparing to an old taping of the Ocean version) and the eyes of the dragon Gohan stands on at the end of the Zenkai Power credits.

Very sorry if this is going off-topic.

I agree with Conan. There's no denying that the cropping was a very stupid decision, however when watching it on my 4:3 TV, there really isn't much difference at all with the overscan. I'm not letting the blame slide off Funimation (or Toei for that matter for giving poor masters in the first place. :P). Although for the most part, it isn't overly harmful to viewing the series.

The first Funi dvds never really looked right for me, they always seemed off center or something. This was probably from the zooming I guess.

All I can say is "Holy shit". I was kind of hoping for 2 cheap ass Box Sets for DBZ Movies 1-13 to come out. But as long as these Double Feature discs contain a Dub w/JP Music Track, I will most certainly be buying. Hell, since Widescreen isn't even an issue with the Movies. If FUNi can keep the color scheme and quality up to that of the Season 3 Z Box Set, we may have a pretty damn good release on our hands. As for the GT Box Set, same as the movies. If there's a Dubbed JP Music Track...I'm in. I'm kind of hoping that FUNi isn't gonna rip us off with GT. I mean being they're putting out 30+ Episode Z Box Sets, I hope they'll dish out GT in 2 Box Sets (Black Star DB/Baby & Super 17/Shadow Dragon).

That's what I figure, too. It'd make sense, and it'd be pretty impractical to do it any other way, really.

That would make the sets 41 & 23 episodes. 3 sets would even the episode count out...

Grand Tour - 21
Baby - 20
Super 17 / Dragons - 23

Unless they decided to split 2 sets evenly, which would end the first set on Uub's fight with Baby.

That's what they did with the pre-existing box sets, isn't it? The third box has Goku's rematch with Babi through Super 17, and then the fourth has the Shadow Dragons.

But the 3-box setup seems logical too.
