Buying DB manga

Post by Genki-Dama » Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:06 pm

I am a long time fan of the series but sadly I only have a few volumes of DBZ and no DB. I was thinking about buying some, or should I hold off until the VIZBIG releases. What should i get? :(

I'd say hold off for the VIZBIG. That's what I'm doing. More bang for your buck, and color pages to boot. Even if they're still edited (here's hoping to the contrary), it's an all-around bigger and better product.

EDIT: Plus, since they're apparently releasing both "Dragon Ball" and "Dragon Ball Z" simultaneously, the entire series will be available rather relatively quickly.

Did they give a definite release date for that yet?

Late May, it would seem.

I am so glad I waited before purchasing the manga,

I'm really looking forward to these releases, I do hope there is less editing, but the colour pages will go a little way towards cheering me up.

I feel kind of silly about it.
I mean, I bought the manga as it originally came out by Viz (yes I have those old "bigger" versions too) and I have about 1/3rd of the Kanzenban.

I don't see a point to the VizBig ones for me, sadly. :(
On hiatus.

If it's unedited, I'll probably pick these up.

I was just thinking the same of buying the manga. For people in the Netherlands, I found a company called Glenat that was established in 2000 (around the time DBZ was a major hipe when it aired on cartoon network in Europe) translating the manga's into Dutch. They're now at the end of the kid buu saga and I believe they covered db and dbz in like 90 volumes (it surprises me it took them 7 years ! is this normal?).One volume costs aproximately 2.40 euro's. I can remember exactly seven years ago buying the first volume in my local store and I believe it wasn't censored since I saw Bulma naked in the shower, you had to read it from right to left and it didn't contain any colour so thus far good enough. Only I doubt the translation a bit and I don't know much about possible edits since I don't have any other db manga to compare it with, I can't say much on that.
Anyway's, I would also say to wait for the VIZBIG and hope daizex will give us a good comparison with the Kanzenban and then decide for yourself which one to get. I know I will wait for them to come out.

Well I know that the first 16 volumes of DB can be found unedited, and some of the DBZ era stuff was at first...then the edits started around the Cell stuff.
