I'm looking for a reference if anyone can find the source. Its Toriyama related.

This comes from Wikipedia, wich is why I'm asking.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tite_Kubo#_note-TK-TV
"Kubo submitted Bleach to Weekly Shonen Jump hoping that it would be published; the story was rejected, since the editors claimed it was too similar to Yoshihiro Togashi's YuYu Hakusho. Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball series, sent a letter of encouragement to Kubo which inspired him to continue working on Bleach and, as of 2002, the manga has since been printed and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, becoming an instant success. Bleach has also spawned a prosperous anime series."

I have heard of that before, though the version I heard went something like 'the editors were planning on cancelling the manga, so Toriyama sent in a letter of recommendation and saved the series from cancellation'.

EDIT:
My rhyming is totally unintended, I only had 3 to 4 hours of sleep last night due to finishing a super-report for one of my classes. ^_^;;;
On hiatus.

I have also come across this information in the past. After digging around for a few moments, this is what I came up with. It probably isn't the original though.

Well, if that's what happened, then I'd have to thank Toriyama, because Bleach is the shit. 8)

I'd also heard before that Tite Kubo had been a fan of Toriyama's and that Toriyama had sent him a letter of encouragement. I can't help but think that 12th Squad Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi was inspired by Freeza (and in fact, the voice actor for Freeza also does Mayuri in the original Japanese audio) in both appearence and demeanor.

Tite Kubo is definitely a fan of Toriyama's. He was one of the artists who drew a picture for Children of Dragon Ball when the kanzenban were coming out.

If the only sources for this story are various Bleach fansites, then I would be extremely cautious about accepting it as true.

Both the "Toriyama letter" information and the whole "it was rejected because it was like Yu Yu Hakusho" sound like pure bullshit to me and should be removed. The sites cited aren't reliable sources AT ALL.

I dunno, I could buy it. Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho do have various things that coincide with eachother - but so does Bleach and Kingdom Hearts if you wanna look that deep into it, so who knows. :?

Well, seeing as how the only references provided were from a fansite (meaning the biography could be pulled right out of the webmaster's ass) and tv.com, a user-edited website (Wikipedia and other user-edited sites can't be cited as sources, ever), I'm pretty sure this info is bullshit.

I agree with Chibi Mystic. Those sources just aren't credible enough. Pardon me if I hold off from any "wowing" at how cool this is until I see it mentioned somewhere like the front page of ANN. >>

If it really happened good for Tite Kubo but if it didn't I wished it would have because it shows that Toriyama is a pretty cool guy. 8)
