Man, it's a good thing I have to head to class in like, 15 minutes, because this is the kind of post where my ugly habit of talking too much would typically come into play. ^^;
I'll make it simple for my personal favorites, in chronological order:
DB: Gokou vs. Ta'o Pai Pai
Something about this being the first real fight (if you don't count Jackie Chun for the fairly obvious reasons) that Gokou actually lost. Both the initial battle and the second part of this are spectacular in my eyes, and I always loved Ta'o Pai Pai as a villain (that pillar fucking rocked).
DB: Gokou vs. Grandpa Gohan
This fight showed the master who taught Gokou everything he ever knew about fighting (pre-Muten Roshi and events in the series) and just why he was known as such a revered master. Not to mention the end is really quite touching.
DB: Gokou vs. Piccolo Daimaoh
...I hope I don't need to give my reasons for this. This was by far my favorite arc of the original DB, and while the arc as a whole is what made it awesome, not this fight on its own, it's still a very good one; particularly in the Anime version because the music added a certain depth to the fight that to me made it so much more effective.
DB: Gokou vs. Tenshinhan (22nd Budoukai)
It's a real shame so many fans become DBZ fans first and look down on the original DB, because if you ask me, all the Super Saiyajin action in the world can't top this as one of the absolute best fights in this or any series (it's got to be tied with Naruto vs. Sasuke in my favorites of all time).
DB: Gokou vs. Mr. Popo (Anime only)
A bit more obscure but I always liked when Gokou first reaches the top of the tower and confronts Mr. Popo. The Anime expanded on this a lot more than the Manga, which is really what I enjoyed, and it's proof to the people that say Mr. Popo was just a worthless side character that he really was more than that, uh...temporary as it may have been.
DB: Gokou vs. Tenshinhan (23rd Budoukai)
What can I say? Tenshinhan was my favorite character in original DB. This fight wasn't as epic as their first battle, but it definately shows what the two of them have become capable of since their previous battle, which I enjoyed.
DB: Kuririn vs. Ma Junior
Hey, he lost, and perhaps he never really stood a chance were Piccolo to be serious, but I always looked at this as Kuririn's defining moment in the series. He trained really hard and for someone other than Gokou to hold his own against Piccolo for even a little bit, I always liked this little fight.
DB: Gokou vs. Ma Junior
I was always conflicted on which I enjoyed more between this fight and the fight with the original Piccolo Daimaoh. Both are great, and this battle definitely has some amazing moments. It's also the real first in the trend DBZ continued (a lot) of one of the longer, more drawn out battles (but it held the limit and wasn't drawn out too far...I'm lookin' at you, Gokou vs. Freeza >_>).
DBZ: Gokou and Piccolo vs. Radditz
Radditz was effing cool, is all. And I liked Gokou and Piccolo teaming up for the first time because the animosity was clearly there, but it wasn't as far as beating you over the head with it like a lot of the anti-hero Vegeta and Gokou moments. This fight is too often overlooked.
DBZ: Gokou vs. Vegeta (first time)
This battle was the last real DB-style fight in the series before the supernatural and epic powers took over. There were energy techniques, and Gokou's Kaiohken, but it was a nice, moderate level without being overboard on those aspects. Plus it relied a lot more on the teamwork of everyone rather than just "Gokou can do it on his own because he's Gokou" aspect. This one is a definite favorite of mine.
DBZ: Vegeta vs. Zarbon
The first fight to show there were more skilled fighters than Vegeta out there, and this was only an underling of the dreaded Freeza. Plus the ending was one of the more gruesome of Vegeta's kills, which I thought was really, really cool back when I was 14. Not that it's not still cool :P
DBZ: Gokou vs. Perfect Cell
A great fight, culminating in a show that Gokou just wasn't strong enough to beat Cell, who was still for the most part playing around. Seeing a fight like that and realizing as evenly-matched as it looked, Gokou was going all out and Cell was NOT, helped to make the following battle even more spectacular.
DBZ: Gohan vs. Perfect Cell
...I-I'm just gonna say this is my all-time favorite fight in the series and...l-leave it at that...or I'll go overboard writing an essay on the reasons why...*twitch*
DBZ: Videl vs. Spopovich
I dunno, Videl was like, the only female character in DB I didn't hate. Sure, like so many other characters, her potential was temporary and wasted, but even though she got her ass fucking handed to her in this match, it showed how skilled she was going all out, and when you consider she who she was fighting, and that if she had used those skills on anyone NOT DBZ-powerful, she was an amazing fighter at the time.
DBZ: Gokou vs. Majin Vegeta
I've always preferred their first battle so much I typically dismissed this one as less cool by default, but I re-watched it all during DBR Week and realized that it was one of the better battles in the second half of the series (where ALL battles were guilty of too much power and this fight is one of the better ones done in THAT late-DBZ style). I prefer the Anime version here because the music and voice acting (Vegeta in particular) adds a bit more desperation to it, leading into Vegeta's soon-to-follow suicide quite well.
DBZ: Super Gotenks vs. Majin Buu
One of my all-time favorites in anything, not just DB. It's hilarious, period. It brought back the comedic style that DBZ lost along the way, and it did an amazing job of it. Plus, Gotenks is awesome. End.
That's about it for me now if you'll excuse me I have to run now so I'm not late because I was ranting about DB kthxbai *run*
