EDIT: Hey we got some more news on the movie. Apparently, Luis Arrieta will be playing Goku's school buddy in the film. A special thanks to http://www.dragonballmovieblog.com/.

WTF!? Luis Arrieta?! teto?! sort of know-it-all nerd in schooll?! a school!? a FUCKING SCHOOOL!!!!!!

AND I JUST NOW REALIZED THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE TRILOGY!!!??!?

Here's my theory about the movie. Goku is not going to have any kind of superhuman qualities to him.. just a bad assed martial artist. We are not going to even see Kamehameha in this movie. Piccolo will fight with guns. Saiyans were slaves to the Namekians, and the Eldest Namek: Freeza.

If they are indeed substituting this "Teto" for Krillin, it's kind of a crappy decision, but I can see why they might do it. Krillin is probably the hardest of the human(oid) characters to try to cast. At the very least, we can hope "Teto" at least retains Krillin's personality and quirks. Actually, we could hope Krillin shows up, as well.

No it's not. It's a THEORY. We haven't seen enough details yet to support it. It would be suicidal and stupid for them to go through all this trouble to cast people who resemble and can portray the characters, and then not even have them do DragonBall-like things. Stop overreacting.

And your manner of speech / typing continues to be irritating. Caps lock is NOT cruise control for cool. Start typing coherently, correctly, and considerately, and then you'll start to look like at least less of a douchebag.

...And for Pete's sake, calm the hell down. It's a movie, not the Apocalypse. And it's NOT going to kill or ruin the franchise.

Even I wouldn't go that far.

Goku's going to be hit with a car, so I think we'll at least establish that he's tougher than normal. And they're bringing in his Saiya-jin heritage, so I think it's safe to think he'll be like... Clark Kent in Smallville.

And I think it'd be weird for them to suddenly replace characters. If they were going to change anyone's name, it'd be Chatwin's character. Goku doesn't suit him.
But they haven't. Goku's name is still Goku, Bulma's Bulma, and Mai is still Mai despite her being different from the Mai in the story. I think if they intended Teto to be the Kuririn character, they'd simply name him Kuririn and not give a damn if it's like the real Kuririn.

It's just a new character. Who's Chatwin's character's nerd friend. *Shrug*

I'd also like point out that they didn't say his 'major part' in the next two movies would be as a fighter.
Just stating the obvious, but I think it's worth stating none the less...

I can only hope you're right.

Other, more minor characters they can get away with omitting or merging or adapting. But I'd go so far as to say Kuririn's even more important than Bulma or Chi-Chi, at least when it comes to interaction with Goku. They've kept the other characters so integral to the plot and true to their originals... to omit Krillin would be ridiculous and extremely self-contradictory at this point.

Hopefully, there will be another press release sometime soon that will put our fears to rest either way.

This could just be his best friend at school. His role could expand in numerous ways in the next two films in other ways, such as: Fixing up a spaceship or creating some gravity chambers.

I seriously doubt that they would not have an iconic character like Krillin in the trilogy.

Well, they have said that Teto might have a larger role if it becomes successful enough for a trilogy. Now, he could be the Kuririn (or Krillin) replacement, but there's another character he could be.

#17. Sure, in the original manga, Goku and #17 weren't best buds, but Piccolo also never told Goku he was an alien, and that's apparently happening here. Quite frankly, I'd rather have him be #17 than have him be the Kuririn replacement.

Of course, I'm hoping that he's only known as Teto in this movie. Teto, Goku's friend...who just so happens to have a twin sister. He can become #17 near the end of the second movie.

That's an interesting theory.

Plus, apparently all of "Teto's" scenes at UNITEC have already been filmed. That spells "minor character" to me.

Right, as if people weren't pissed enough that Goku is in school. We really want #17 to be the high school nerd?

It says that the "Trilogy" would have several new characters. The bully mentioned was one. Maybe this Teto's only role is to be saved from the bully by Goku?
In the next movie, he'd use his know-it-all nerd prowess to create the flying car, hoi-poi capsule, and co-found the Capsule Corporation with Bulma.

I still think this movie is going to turn out to the be the "Super Mario Bros." of anime...

I, at least, respect other members, and extremity about movie should not be considered as a flame.

Second, that, for my grammar, and spelling became almost stereotype, I know I made many mistakes, but in last 5-6 posts I really think I've improved it. And I think my spelling is better than yours, maybe I am wrong.

Anyway, I think we'd all be better off if we at least TRIED to keep this thread centered around actual intelligent, creative discussion and speculation about the movie. Whatever your views on it, there's a heavy, official flow of information coming out at a regular pace now, and we should try to keep our discussion of it as it comes from being locked because of immature arguing and spazz-out sessions. From BOTH sides, myself included.

So let's all please try to keep the bickering and emotional outbursts subdued, okay?

One last thing, DTX. With all due respect, dude, this freaking out and claiming to want to bomb Fox and all that (hope you're joking about that one) ... It really IS "overreacting." You don't have to like the idea of the movie, but the way you've been acting honestly just isn't earning you any respect. At least bring yourself to approach the matter calmly, maturely, and reasonably.

Oh, no. Don't get me wrong. I think it'd be really interesting if a character were introduced now that turned out to someone significant later. Like Harvey Dent being in the Dark Knight in anticipation of a sequel with Two-face.

Just not Teto turning out to be #17.

I think it'd be more likely that the Bully turn out to be #17, considering #17's personality...

Here's my most optimistic prediction for "Teto".

What if he's just the equivalent of "Molly" from Sailor Moon? (I don't know her Japanese name) You know, the high school friend who shows up just to showcase the main character as having a "normal" life before they get/learn their powers, then disappears into the background and the other super-powered friends of the main character take his place?

I know I'm a newcomer here, but maybe it would be a good idea to make a "Vent about Movie" thread, and keep it separate from "Intelligent Movie Discussion" thread.

#17 originating from being a school nerd would be weird, but it could make sense in one scenario. The basis: #17 always liked to go out and have fun driving cars and acting juvenile. Essentially, being cool. And, this kid is a know-it-all nerd, who probably can't get out much.

Teto graduates from high school, and his college professor, Dr. Gero, asks him to come on and work with him on some experiments. One of those experiments is adding the machine to the man. Teto hates Gero for doing it to him, and kills him. But, now as #17, he gets to go have some fun (And the power may get to his head).

But there'd be no dramatic angst (tm) as Goku must fight his best friend!

I've also decided it would be interesting (to me, at least), if Kuririn and (the one who would become) #18 were dating before she became #18. Yes, it's completely different from the original story, but it would at least give a reason for him to be reluctant to deactivate her, other than "she's a cute girl and she kissed me!".

It's fun planning the sequels before I've seen the first movie!
