How prominent was the movie in North America? Was it in theaters in every state? I hope it shows around NA as much as Your Name did because that aired at a theater near me.

Well, early signs seem to suggest that a worldwide release won't be as late behind the Japanese release as it used to be.

Hecl, a lot of Japanese media has been reaching the other corners of the globe at a faster rate in the past few years. Rather than almost half a year, we're looking at potentially only 2-3 months of delay if the trend holds for DB like it does other Japanese entertainment media.

Which movie? Battle of Gods? Resurrection of F? Both of those had limited releases. I had to drive over an hour to get to the nearest theater that showed it, and I had to order tickets in advance to claim my seats. Hopefully the new movie will feature in more theaters this time. I think the chances are pretty good, given how hard they're promoting it. I think they know how big Dragon Ball is in the West and want to capitalize on that more this time.

Thats good to hear. I find it strange that a show like Dragon Ball is getting way less money worldwide for their movie compared to a One Piece movie worldwide.

Yeah, but what i wanted to say is this: you only need one day after the release in Japan to get massive spoilers everywhere, on boards worldwide, sociale media ... that will be very difficult to evade. With the Super-anime that problem was less relevant, as the subbed version was there only a few hours after it aired in Japan. We are living in a far mor spoiler and social media-driven world then when for instance BOG came out in 2013. Considering the popularity of DBS at the moment, It'll be everywhere before you'd have the opportunity to see the movie itself. Therefore i think they really should aim for a real world wide release, if possible, this time around. It would be better for the audience outside Japan they'd first make the dubbed version and then release Japanese and dubbed versions simultaneously in Japan and the rest of the globe.

I agree. They should definitely aim for a simultaneous release considering how popular Super is right now and how many people would get the movie spoiled in a matter of days, if not hours, after it is released in Japan.
They also provided simulcast for Super ever since episode 63 if I remember correctly, and the legal sites providing the subbed episodes such as Crunchyroll were always overloaded the day the episodes aired, so Toei should know really well a ton of people overseas are up to par with the latest episodes of Super.

I'm worried that they'll push the release of the film 3 or 4 months after it comes out in Japan just so they can get the English dub done for it. I will be so impressed if they're able to smash out a dub and have it ready for December. What I'm expecting will happen is that the film gets a limited run in theatres subbed and then get a wider release dubbed a few months later. What I'm wishing will happen is that they'll actually manage to get a dub out in December and they'll also give an option to watch the film subbed like what Madman did with Resurrection 'F' back when it came out in Australia and New Zealand.

Seeing as how the film got an English subbed teaser first, the upcoming movie promos for the North American Dragon Ball tour and Toei aiming for a simultaneous release, it looks like Toei really are aiming for this film to be a hit worldwide rather than just focusing all their marketing in Japan. DB Super is huge. If Toei take full advantage of the marketing and release of this film, this could be a huge hit in the box office for anime films.

I'm honestly expecting this film to get on Studio Ghiblli levels of worldwide box office revenue or even Kimi No Na Wa levels of worldwide box office revenue. Dragon Ball is huge and this film is the biggest db project up to date. I’m hoping for some incredible results.

I'd rather see it subbed right away than i'll have to wait for the dub for a couple of months.

I think most NA / Europe-viewers are used now watching it Japanese with subs.

I don't think Goku or Vegeta will get one, but unless the new Saiyan is also some kind of hybrid, I'd say the gold eyes and weird green aura are signs that he almost certainly will.

I expect a least one new form in every story in Super.
