Ironically, if you look back at the time when Funimation first got Dragonball Z and was editing it terribly, 4Kids' main property was a 99% uncut and accurate dub of Pocket Monsters under the title Pokémon. (Sure, almost everything other than Pikachu had it's name changed, but still, doesn't change the fact that it was close to the original.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Oh lord if 4Kids had gotten DBZ...the horror...the horror!

I'm a big-time anime/manga fan; I watch and read many-a-series, but I tend to stear clear of online communities. Obviously, this forum is an exception but only because it demands high standards from its posters. There was a time when there were many forums like this one, but it seems Daizex is the last of a dying breed of great communities.
It seems to me that anime fandoms no longer care about perpetuating indepth, insightful discussion. It has devolved into little more than a free-for-all between snooty fanboyism; trolls; and dubbies vs. subbies. Even more adult-themed anime like Death Note, Blood+, and Ghost in the Shell suffer from this, and it's just so discouraging.
But in the end, it doesn't matter. I like anime/manga, I take it seriously, and aside from Daizex, I just keep it to myself. Hell, it makes me appreciate this forum all the more.

Take an economics course. If you eliminate the demand, a company either has to remove the product completely (not very likely) or re-tailor it. I can complain to the company until I'm blue in the face, but if I try and help discredit them on the other hand and people get pissed enough...well, then they've got thousands of people (potentially) "bitching" to them.JAPPO wrote:Why don't you bitch to FUNimation and leave the people who buy the set out of it?
Wake the fuck up, the show would have cost thousands if you supported FUNimation beforehand. Just because it's cheap now doesn't mean some poor fucks haven't paid thousands of dollars to own Region 1 DBZ only to be screwed in the end. And no, I said idiots were the people who repeated $5 words that they didn't understand and automatically think that anything in a widescreen format is "cinematic." If that applies to you, then yes. You're an idiot. It makes me an idiot because I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a fucking TV show?
Didn't call people with different opinions idiots, I called people who take FUNimation's advertising as gospel (otherwise known as "9 year olds" per FUNimation) idiots. There's a difference.don't call people who have different opinions than yours idiots.
Cartman-avatar-having-guy, you might be...well, dumb and defensive of your purchasing habits despite the fact that I've repeatedly said my comments pertain to people who are blatantly stupid and willfully ignorant, but...uh, what's something that's about as witty as what you said... go away and leave me the fuck alone?Corey, you might be a smart person but ffs, go cry about it alone.
On the other hand, thanks for proving my "lots of idiots have come here this past year" hypothesis to be correct

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to dust this off.Big Momma wrote:But on a serious note, I'm a member at all kinds of forums for anime, and each anime has it's "extremists" fans. At the Naruto sites, you'll always find people saying the dub sucks(Even though its much better than most) and they'll probably base this off of "believe it", even though the dub hasn't said that in over 50 episodes, and the Japanese version says "dattebayo" even more.

Imagine the whole series run with that, instead of "believe it!"
As for complaining, it's what fans do. Fans aren't really happy unless they're griping about something. You know it's true. I was joking with the DVD production staff not long ago about this phenomenon. I told them, if you want to keep your fans happy, in that regard, then as long as you do your job wrong, you're doing your job right. Tongue-in-cheek, of course. Maybe you had to be there.
I'll throw my 2 cents in since i wasn't here when the discussion was fresh a few weeks ago. I am someone who started watching DBZ around 2002 because of my friends saying how good it was. Dragonball Z was my first anime, and to this day it's still one of my favorites. I recently started buying up the DVDs for Dragonball and DBZ. Since the old releases are unavailible to me,and the new DB singles are out of my price range, the orange bricks are my only way to see the show. The problem i see is the greed of huge companies with millions of dollars being put before a satisfied fanbase. Funimation and Toei are the blame for this. Funimation for ignoring its vocal fanbase, and Toei for giving them horrible masters to start off. With that being said,i have no problem with the Dragonball community. I didn't even know that a Dragonball forum with dedicated fans still existed on the net before i found Daizex. We are fans with different opinions and views, and i think that's great for a community to have that.
On the subject of the sets, I only buy them cause they are cheap and they have the Japanese music. But in the advent that Funimation gets the Dragonbox footage in the future and releases it, i'll buy that too. The orange bricks have flaws, and we that buy them admit that. But that doesn't mean that we don't support the fight to have Dragonball(Z,GT) released the way it should be.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
