The difference is that Bardock was a good character. Broly on the other hand...let's just say there's no way but up to go.

Good character or not, is not like Toriyama can magically improve his character just because he's the author of the series.

I mean yeah he can. Just change the character entirely but keep the name and appearance the same. Completely different backstory, no crazy dad, no insane motives for hating Goku, and any capability for dialogue of any kind.

If this is true (I don't think it's 100% yet) then all those canon debates are out the window. When I said no one has to say what's canon for us to know this is exactly what I meant. Good luck arguing canon for Toei's Broly or anything else they did in those movies and even GT now that this is (maybe) a thing.

It is no problem for someone to argue canonicity if someone actually argues while knowing what it means and not the 99,9999% of stuff that happens here, like "its the same no matter the inconsistencies" or "they are both part of two different guidelines"- Because canons are scales/guidelines and can exist in multiple versions, et cetera. The options are broad.

And now with a reboot of Broly's character it means he might be a little different than the original version.

But they are talking of a copy. This is weird? Like Bio Broly? But even then it could be a reference to the old Broly because to have a copy they have to refer to an original. Except they mean the copy in a meta-meaning like "other version" since it can be a reboot.

I went ahead and watched the movies from back then, and I felt this could be quite interesting once I rearrange some things. I got right to work trying my hand at a story that incorporates him into the Dragon Ball Super series.

While keeping in mind Broly's classic image so as not to disappoint his fans, I updated him and added a new side to his character, and I think this has resulted in a more fascinating Broly.

Naturally you’ll get to see fierce combat, but also, the paths of destiny that lead to an encounter between Goku, Vegeta, and Broly. It also involves the Frieza Force and the history of the Saiyans, which end up having a major connection to everything. The story content turns out to be very large-scale and dramatic.

Here comes that almighty Saiyan, Broly! I'm also including lots of other content all you fans will enjoy, so look forward to it, and be patient a while longer for it all to come together!!

This whole copy thing is so weird right now. I think at best it is meant as a clone, which would be fine for me because it would still be a tie-in but still quite sad because it is a new Broly nonetheless only regarding to be another clone of the original and at worst it is a reboot and that's what they mean. I mean, I guess both would be fine somewhat. We'll see.
