Anything without those highlights is good enough for me.

The big ears and rounder eyes on the second image really remind me of Toriyama's Saiyan arc art. I'm liking it a lot.

Looking at Goku and Vegeta, I'm of two minds about it. I think that when it comes to their transformation designs, Shintani is actually better than prime Yamamuro. Former Yamamuro has an ever-so-slightly better base Goku; Shintani's character sheet for him is great, but I'm not convinced that he's consistent enough with Goku's (base) face to surpass him in that regard.

Overall, I would definitely go with Shintani though. This guy has single-handedly reinvigorated my hopes for the franchise on a visual level. If his involvement stops with this movie, I'd be a little upset.

Though I'm not particularly fond of Shintani's neck in that particular shot, I think literally every other shot from the trailer is a better demonstration of Shintani's style.

I think this movie will more than prove the huge distance between what could be done with the designs from both creators. Based on the trailer alone, which actually looked like the trailer for a movie as opposed to a suped up episode like ROF, I think this movie will absolutely be the best animated thing to come out of Dragonball.

Shintani by an absolute mile. If anything, I was hoping the entire trailer would stick a little closer to the minimalist, loose, bubbly style his art provided the teaser. It has its unique traits but is a good match for modern Toriyama and animation-friendly Dragon Ball as a whole.

Here’s a comparison of Goku walking in various (modern) styles.

I think it’s clear that the 2018 and 2008 versions are the two best ones. I am not only talking about animation (2008 wins hands down) but about how Goku looks. Notice how in 2010 and 2013 Goku has some super stiff shoulders, making his walking feel robotic and lifeless. That is especially evident in the 2013 version, which is just absolutely horrible, both art and animation wise.
