Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #1 Thread: "Broly"

GT ending was "good" because it was the only thing left it had, if it had not been a financial failure at the time, then the ending would had been just like the Super ending, a "we see you later", but no, GT ending at the time was meant to end all the Dragon Ball content for the seeable future, unlike Super whose success made possible the new movie and all things to come.


On topic: I hope that they retcon Minus, if Bardock and Goku history is in the movie... or at last improve on it.

I worry a bit that the plot to the movie is going to be too transparent or redundant to what was done before and that it’s mostly going to be a lot of action only. That’s not horrible, but I hope for more than that considering the spectacle of the fight was the main thing going for movie 8.

I think they might actually do a good job with this movie. I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I would love to see a new Planet Vegeta be brought back and see how Goku/Vegeta interact with savage like saiyans in the past

My enjoyment of this movie depends heavily on:

A. How they execute the expansion if the Saiyan lore/history
B. If Vegeta is just there to job to Broly.

And the more I think about it the more nervous I am about how these aspects are going to turn out.

As far as the fight scenes go I am not worried at all. I fully expect it to blow most DB fights out of the water given how much is going into this movie. And at this point spectacular fight scenes are becoming a trend so I am pretty confident those will be top notch.

So i was watch MasakoX’s video and it made me wonder. Does Toriyama have a new editor now? Someone that watches over and judges his ideas? Hopefully someone who isn’t afraid to speak up against Toriyama. At least for the movie. He did mention that his editor gave him the idea to use Broly for the new movie. Maybe Toriyama is really serious about bringing DB to its former glory and it even welcoming outside help. That would be a HUGE step in the right direction. Hopefully he actually does have an editor again but someone who is not a push-over just because Toriyama is so famous.

He's getting SsjG and is going to fight using all his forms from base to SsjB so he's clearly not going to job but he's also not going to take down Broly. Toriyama has done a really good job with Vegeta so I'm not worried about that.

I wonder if the movies will follow the same format for the Z movies and it just shows vegeta getting jobed and then goku saves the day. The only time a z movie had vegeta do something to help best the villian was movie 6 (and 11 I guess)

Since there's a snow setting in the film, I would love it if that location is close to Jingle Village and we get to see Android 8 and the villagers again. That would make for a great reunion. I've been rewatching Dragon Ball and I'm currently up to the Red Ribbon arc. Seeing Jingle Village again in the movie just popped up in my head during my rewatch.

I'm sure his ideas are filtered through Iyoku and the others in the Dragon Ball Room at Shueisha, but remember that the film is also going to ultimately reflect Nagamine Tatsuya's vision, too.

I think Goku will likely save the day with UI (there's a Gogeta theory going around as well) but both Vegeta and Freeza will put up good fights before going down.

I think its likely that they’ll pull a Fusion Reborn and have Freeza act as Pikkon and fight off Broly in the end as Goku gets Vegeta and they fuse into Gogeta.

That'll be beyond epic. There's an argument that they won't fuse against a non-fused enemy but Janemba wasn't and that didn't hold them back.

Technically Janemba was a fused enemy. Janema is what Naraku from Inu Yasha is. Some random dude fusing with thousands of evil souls into a super demon.

I am still of the mind that Broly won't be defeated. He'll be pushed and pushed and pushed. And I figure this has all been brought to bear by Whis in order to show Goku and Vegeta where true strength lies. Broly is the embodiment of raw talent, unbridled strength and boundless power. But that's all he has. It's strength without purpose. And that's all Goku has been chasing. Goku wants to get stronger for the sake of getting stronger. To become as strong as he can be. To become the strongest.

Vegeta is much the same way, always wanting to prove he's stronger than Goku. Neither of them has a higher reason or purpose for their strength. Yes they do use it to protect their companions and loved ones. But that's no their reason for pursuing strength. Broly doesn't pursue strength at all. He is simply immeasurably strong. In fact, Broly probably hates that he is so strong, because it's the reason why Paragus is using him like a tool. If he wasn't strong, maybe the man who is said to be his father, would treat him better than an attack dog.

By the end of the movie, I think Broly is just going to leave. Take a pod back to the planet where Paragus had found him, wanting nothing more than to live quietly
