Do you think Super will receive a time skip at some point?

Post by Kokonoe » Sat Jul 28, 2018 2:16 am

So we've had a few arcs of Super, and it is a huge success with a big movie on the horizon, but Dragon Ball eventually had a time skip, so do you think Super will receive one too?

Wasn't it supposed to lead into EoZ at some point? Here's hoping it'll eventually go past it.

Super tried it's best to not go near eoz under any circumstance, even the new movie seems to be before eoz, so no, the only time skip we will be getting is from this gentleman

It'll skip until 1 year before End of Z, and Goten/Trunks will still look like 8 year olds. I can't wait.

Toyotaro said it will but that may not be till Toriyama's done which could be a long way out.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I really want it to, and I do think it will at some point in the future, but it won't be for a good while. At the moment I feel like they're going to cling to the current timeframe as much as they can, and the only way there'll be a time skip is if the story makes it so that a significant amount of time has to pass for it to continue (for example, the Super Dragon Ball recharge time forces the ToP to be a year after the U6-U7 tournament).

Well it depends. Right now in the top, of only takes place at max 4 years after buu. So we are one year away before that 5 year mark when bulma says she hasn't seen goku in 5 years (5 years! That's along time when you think about. I guess their friendship is more of being comrads that actual family friends). So I think this broly will be the last arc until we reach uub.

That would require them to make Goten, Trunks and Marron look older so I doubt it will happen any time soon :D

I hope so, if only to see Uub actually get to do something. Poor guy doesn't even get any shine in video games.

If Uub becomes a part of the cast, I hope he straight-up carries the torch as the main character. Just seems appropriate to me given where the ending was going thematically, although I'm not quite sure if I see Toei being on board with the idea.

I don't know if they or Toriyama would go that far since Goku is so iconic as the main character but he could still be in a very prominent role since he's Goku's student. Of course, I'd love to see Uub, Bra and Pan form their own little Goku Gang so what do I know?

As cool as that would be, it's be pretty unrealistic. It'd be extremly difficult to market dragon ball like that, and idk if Akira would have any interest in doing something like that. That seems something toyotaro would do, and having dragon ball being authored by toyotaro who's main character is UUB? Hahahah, good luck with that. Though I'd still watch.

A time-skip would be great to finally introduce MUI Vegeta without having to go through all this bullshit training.

Oh, it's a bold move to be sure. I honestly don't see it happening myself due to the iconism of Goku as a character as well as merchandising, and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a partial reason for Super being set in the ten year gap before the ending.

Oh well. It seemed to work for Boruto, so maybe the possibility's on the table? I have no idea. Probably not.

If we are going to introduce Uub, Pan and Bra as the next generation and have their adventures then that's fine. Just first give me more with Goku/Vegeta and then once that train slows to a stop then let the next generation take over but now before then.

Like all things it depends on execution. I've not seen Naruto or Boruto so I can't comment on those but it seems like Boruto is doing well for itself. Uub likes to fight so I think there'd be less friction for Toriyama to make him a/the main character than when Gohan stepped into the spotlight in the Buu Saga. The problem with a next gen Dragon Ball story is that with Goku and Vegeta being so strong it's hard to write any kind of foe who's appropriately in-scale with the kids. You either have to write around them like they're currently doing with Beerus and Whis or like Yo Son Goku where they're just watching from the sidelines or you make the kids strong enough to compete with the adults and I don't see that going over well with the fandom if it's not Gohan doing it.

I'd love for Super to just dive right beyond EOZ and have Pan, Oob, Bra, Trunks and Goten as part of the central cast.

Well IMO there's no point in continuing the story past EoZ if Toriyama isn't the one leading it. I know he said the timeskip was the best place to put Super in because everyone's at their peak etc, but Toriyama says shit and then forgets.

The problem with going past EOZ from a story perspective is what is Toriyama supposed to do with Goku and Vegeta? They're still alive and haven't even reached their limit yet so trying to focus on the new generation when those two guys are still getting stronger seems like it'd be counter productive to what fans truly want, which is to explore the multiverse and see more badass new characters.

This isn't like Boruto where Naruto and Sasuke's stories are done and we're now focusing on the development of their children along with the advancement of technology in the Narutoverse.
