There have been cases where NYAV Post directed between New York and LA over Skype or something similar. Ocean could have done the same here.8000 Saiyan wrote:I'm not sure.Robo4900 wrote:I'm sure Willems would be the first choice; he's considered by many to be Ocean's best director, all the voice actors love him, he'd be great. I do wonder if there's more than one director, though. Given the huge cast of Dragon Ball, and the fact it was recorded from at least two locations(Vancouver and Calgary), I wonder if they had a second director who worked on the minor Calgary voices, or something like that...
I think it's possible that whoever directed the Vancouver VA's might have also flown to Calgary to direct the Calgary VA's.

I think something concise and to the point is best, which is why I suggested "Ocean's Dragon Ball Kai: Airing [airdate]". Those who aren't all that interested will read it and get all the relevant information they need from that, and those who are interested will see that, and take it as an "Oh, this is happening then? Neat!!" and perhaps join in the thread.
If we just changed the title of this thread, there wouldn't be much indication of when newcomers should jump to, where exactly we gained our surety of this, etc. etc., and it looks very intimidating to newcomers that there's 292 pages of backlog. A new thread would make it much easier for newbies or people who haven't been around for a while to just jump in and catch up on any info they've missed from what will probably be discussed in the first few pages.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

I think it should be Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub discussion.

So is the general consensus on the channel launch Q1 or Q2 of 2019?

So is this dub officially going to air now?
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
No confirmation yet, but it's almost certain at this point. We've found out Toei still has the Ocean dub and is willing to let it air, and are also experimenting with creating an HD version of it. On top of that, Wow! Unlimited is in talks to acquire and air it.WittyUsername wrote:So is this dub officially going to air now?

If I had to take a guess, at this point - 90% chance it will air. I'm hopeful but reserving judgement until the day it debuts to prepare myself for disappointments should any come up.WittyUsername wrote:So is this dub officially going to air now?
I hope the channel will launch sooner rather than later, or at the very least make announcements for the shows that will be broadcast.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

By the way, is there word on how many of the actors from the old Ocean dubs will be reprising their roles, besides Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond?

I think just Michael Dobson as Nappa has been confirmed, though I'm sure we'll hear Cathy Weseluck as Puar and Chiaotzu again since she still works prominently with Ocean.WittyUsername wrote:Interesting.MistaL wrote:No confirmation yet, but it's almost certain at this point. Here is Robo4900's list of actors currently slated to be in the dub based on what we currently know (as of April 23, 2018):MistaL wrote:I think just Michael Dobson as Nappa has been confirmed, though I'm sure we'll hear Cathy Weseluck as Puar and Chiaotzu again since she still works prominently with Ocean.WittyUsername wrote:Interesting.MistaL wrote: No confirmation yet, but it's almost certain at this point. Pretty much confirmed, yes.WittyUsername wrote:So is this dub officially going to air now?
Worth noting: McNeil also said he's back as Caroni(The blond guy of the Mr. Satan trio), Dale Wilson(Cell, Olibu, Enma in the AB Groupe Z run, and Kami in the first 16 Saban episodes and the entire AB Groupe run) said he's not back, Doc Harris(The narrator) at one point said he isn't back, it's quite likely we'll be getting a new Bulma, it's entirely possible Don Brown is back in any number of his roles, Paul Dobson will not be reprising Zarbon, we can be pretty certain that David Kaye will not reprise Reacoom, Robert O. Smith(Grand Elder Guru) passed away in May 2010 so he won't be back, I recall hearing that Jason Gray-Stanford probably won't be back as Raditz, and it's entirely possible Laara Sadiq is back as Chichi.Arian wrote:MistaL wrote:I think just Michael Dobson as Nappa has been confirmed, though I'm sure we'll hear Cathy Weseluck as Puar and Chiaotzu again since she still works prominently with Ocean.WittyUsername wrote:By the way, is there word on how many of the actors from the old Ocean dubs will be reprising their roles, besides Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond?Robo4900 wrote:CALGARY:VANCOUVER:

Apparently the bulk of the cast is Vancouver actors. It appears that they re-auditioned everybody they could who'd played a given role the most in each cast, and in the cases where they didn't think either casting was good enough or they couldn't bring the old voice(s) in, they brought someone new in.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

I honestly wouldn't mind hearing a more younger-sounding Chi-Chi.

Richard Ian Cox sure loves the taste of NDA in the morning. I bet you even after it comes out, he'll refuse to talk about it, similar to Ray Chase.

TBH, I can't really see anyone else being as good as Sadiq is as Chichi. She's just perfect. Sweet and motherly, but stern and demanding... But never unreasonable, she always sounded legitimately like a concerned mother who's worried for the life of her son... Just, perfect casting IMO.8000 Saiyan wrote:I honestly wouldn't mind hearing a more younger-sounding Chi-Chi.

I said screw it and just sent Sadiq an email asking about it. I hope she comes back as Chichi too, and I'll make sure to say here if she responds.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd advise sending emails to the voice actors. Even if they do respond, they're probably bound by NDA.MistaL wrote:I said screw it and just sent Sadiq an email asking about it. I hope she comes back as Chichi too, and I'll make sure to say here if she responds.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
I think if Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond of all people are so open to talk about it then it should be fine. They've been in the industry long enough to know how things work, so based on how they are about it I'd say either no NDA was signed or it's expired by now.Robo4900 wrote:To be honest, I'm not sure I'd advise sending emails to the voice actors.
